I'll go on out there and say it...

If you've never played Rogue Trader, it's about you and a couple of mates getting together and putting an adventure together, pretty much from scratch. Everyone contributes, and you have to bring your part to the table. It was pretty much- hey you go get your faction, I'll get mine, and we'll put a planet together/ city together and fight for some goals. All the while, you have added tricks and chewies to add to your team/ crew. We didn't start with armies, you started with a couple of guys in a team/ crew/ squad.

The individual was the army, so to speak, and even if you ended up down to Nigel the Mechanic and a half drunk squat named Jones, it was anyone's game. If you see the Crew Sheets, you'll also see that they look familiar. RT was the beginning. Where a shampoo bottle could become a deadly implement of war, and cardboard and popsicle sticks could become cover and concealment or shanty towns.

I still have one of my Gobsmasha's, and the White Dwarf with the plans for it and the Bonebreaka, and Gutrippa as well.

This is a reference, but basically THIS is it.

As to rules, You didn't have the technical arguments like you did with later editions of the game. You rolled a D6 or a D100 respectively for arguments and results. Orks were full on funions. One fell of a truck, he got a damage, and had to run his little butt and catch up, or be left out there as his own.

As to Battle of the Farm, that was a capstone for the book advertising the first of the games boxed sets, One was a box of Space Marines, the Second was Warlord Snagrod's Mob.

You get to either love or hate D 100 charts, in RT, as well...

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

One of the things rarely discussed about RT - but was the reason I got pulled into it - was it had a Gamemaster, like a RPG.

You could run scenarios where players were running from one individual to a small squad apiece and the Gamemaster could create scenarios to put the groups through.

The Book of the Astronomican had a campaign for such play called "The Wolf Time" where half the group would be playing a squad of Space Wolves apiece, the other half play Orks (or run by the GM) and the GM had special set-up rules and handle any surprise twists that came up during the scenarios.

By 2E, that had fallen out of favor for player vs. player games with no Game master to oversee the action.

Help out an old, old gamer-- how does one order this reprint? The binding on my old copy has long since disintegrated, and it would be nice to have a copy to look through and lift scenarios from. Sadly, I can't seem to find a link to the book...

I don’t think it goes live until Saturday at 10am, it may be a slightly different time depending on region. You should be able to find it under new & exclusive and then pre-orders, I suspect there will also be a banner on the home page though.

It should be (along with the Chaos books), but it's frequently out-of-stock.

So $100 in NZ dollars, does that equate to the £32ish mark in the UK? The new Marine codex is $108 NZ and £35 UK.

Cheers Dreadblade, it would actually be nice to see those in Rest Of the World areas not getting the short end of the stick price wise.

To be fair I don't think they even had more than 100 actual outcomes, I remember the common results had a range of like 30 or 40 numbers

130 results on the Personal Attributes table (including 'GM's choice' and 'invent your own'). Only 78 on the Daemon weapon table, and only 64 on the Dominant Attribute table (including 'GM's choice' and 'invent your own').

But then look at the miniscule size of text on the 'Universal Creatures Table' at the back of Lost & the Damned - d1000 result to find a species and then d100 within that to find their rank! "Players of WH40k may re-roll results under 645 if they wish". Now that's a table!

I never pre order, so I may be out of the loop, but I still don't see it on the US site. Do they roll out pre orders at different times on different stores?

10am local time is when pre-orders go live.
Note that this isn't a pre-order; its a Made To Order. That means it might take up to 180 days to be made, shipped and delivered. GW isn't sitting on stock; the orders they get will define the stock order they make to the manufacturer (since GW doesn't print in-house).

Now many times these can also come in waves, although that's normally with models. Books tend to be a one-and-done; but there can still be delivery variation based on your country/region.

Sometimes GW will have a block of stock already ready to go; so some will get very fast delivery whilst others have to wait. This can often be on products where GW isn't sure if its going to out-sell their inventory. If it doesn't GW still has product to sell and will know roughly how fast it might sell out; if it exceeds their inventory then they can ship out what they can and then order in the rest to meet demand.

Yeah, I understand it is MTO. I got the Cursed City stuff from them, just not on day one so I wasn't sure when they posted stuff. Cursed City boxes took a loooong time to show up... lol.

They must not be on Eastern Daylight Time for the US. I'll just have to keep checking it.

In case there's some confusion about ordering on the GW website:

Go to the New & Exclusive tab. If you then click on Pre-orders you won't see Rogue Trader. Instead you have to click on Print on Demand.

Just saying this in case that's the reason you haven't found it. Should be on the US site by now.

EDIT: I just changed my delivery location to US and it seems it's not on the US site after all.... Hopefully just a delay.
