HH needed the old drop pod kit since it is the base for the dreadclaw and deathstorm pods. Plus some people prefer the older model and this let's them still buy it. The new 40k pods are optimized as gaming pieces and terrain pieces that they functionally are.

If you’ve an existing army and bought Drop Pods, you can still use them.

If you were wanting to add Drop Pods, you’ve now a choice. And if anyone moans you’re using the older ones? Just say you’d bought them yonks ago.

Overread wrote:I think the point is that its further proof of GW management's really big push to entirely separate their product lines in the last year or two. Which is something they've never really pushed hard on before and if anything they encouraged cross-game features in the past.
Bingo! GW used two of their 40K sprue budget for the only logical purpose of allowing them to separate 40K and HH Drop Pod sales. I could be wrong, but I think this is a first.

Yes, there are other models with 40K and HH versions, but they are markedly different. HH Primarchs are not the same fellows in their 40K incarnations. The Drop Pods have the same shape and size, differing by tactical rocks in the new kits and the existence of chairs and weapons in the old one.

This is accounting gone mad.
"I don't want your dirty 40K sales in my HH column. No rules for you."
"I don't want your elitist HH sales in my 40K column. New Drop Pods for 40K. You can put your branding on that old lame kit if you want."

Hope you like losing the weapon options on your drop pods so that GW can separate 40k sales from 30k on their accounting spreadsheet.

The new 40k drop pods have a considerably smaller footprint than the old one and are a prwtty substantial QOL improvement for gameplay, now having seen them in use.

Me waiting for a bigger more modernised primarized Pod and I got a simplified smaller one. XD

Nah rule of cool wins everyday so HH will get some 40k money I guess.

The old metal models were riffing on the wolfman look more than a bestial hybrid look the new ones have. Which I much prefer. They're not werewolves, they're men who've developed wolflike features. The subtlety sells it more than the stupid feet.

Sidenote, I loved the old eye of terror 13th company guys. Fantastic look of Astartes with salvaged CSM gear that have been fighting for quite some time...

I dunno, the new kit is so much cheaper considering you get 2 for only slightly more than the cost of 1. IMO the only downside of the new kit really is that you cant do some cool paintwork on the sides of the doors like you could w the old ones

Nah, makes perfect sense. Game of people who love staying in the games past with old models and expensive resin kits so they can paint and use them like a historical are exactly the target audience for "old, bigger, more expensive and more to paint with huge rules ambiguity."

Honestly, both kits are going to sell to whoever prefers either. GW will make their usual ridiculous profit and the accountants will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Except for the whole transportation to the store/club thing and an old pod with doors closed has even a smaller footprint.

Was and is, expecting a revised primaris version bigger and better that did not happen.

Both kits will sell well, however they are not doing a great job of maxing profits, laughing about it would be misplaced confidence.

I don’t. That was one guy that became a meme. Also the plastic version looked awful.
It’s like the whole frost blade flanderisation but only slightly less ridiculous.

Yeah but this one just looks like an ultramarine with a knife on his belt. Change that paint colour and its an ultramarine.

Wolf helms for the faction that's wolf made - yes its flanderising but the whole faction is that anyway

Considering Space wolves have not had any wolf specific primaris exept for Ragnar and a start collecting Liutenant, the "ultramrarine look" is probably what most space wolf armies look like since 8th edition.
And the primaris armour dont allow for most beards, so alot of the old bare heads dont work either.
Wolf helmets looks awful. They made a whole batch for HH and had to make another set soon after, because it was a really bad idea and even GW realised they messed up.

This just further proves that I'm not a Space Marine player cause I liked those wolf helms (I also like the stupidly big pauldrons on the new terminators and dreadnought in the HH starter set)

Well the crazy over-the-top design have served 40k loyaly since the begining and made it what it is today. Cheers for holding torch. To be fair, I certainly didnt start my SW collection because they were sober and low key

Yeah, IF I were ever to do Space Wolves - THIS IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN - I would totally lean into the wolf thing and get as many wolf-head helmets as possible.

Crap, I was totally contemplating getting you a Space Wolf shirt for the holidays... back to the drawing board.

When new models are announced, you never know if you are getting Grim Dark or Saturday Morning Cartoon or 4chan.

Yup. And they represent the end state of the frost weapon baloney too.
In 2e there was Frostfang, Ragnar’s personal weapon, a unique named chainsword with a power field that it could support because it had teeth from an ice kraken. Then suddenly everyone could take frost weapons which were just power weapons +1 but still described as chainblades. Then, completely out of left field, frost weapons became literal ice blades somehow.

Simple answer to the frost weapon evolution: ice axe looks cooler than a chainsword. Try to paint frost effect on a chainblade compared to a big brutal axe.

Personally I dont have a problem with the plastic wulfen. With a dark paintjob, irl they look fine. I think its those kind of models that suffer from "official paintjob" and 2d pictures.
I probably need another box now because they have different unit entries if they have shields or not, and my unit have mixed gear.

And another one alongside a rune stone on his right forearm. And even though the angle is bad, I think he has a diamond instead of a skull on his chest eagle.

Combined with the combat knife sheath that's plenty of visual cues for a Grey Hunter to mark him as a Space Wolf.
