At least the Harbinger of Decay got mentioned, an actually perfect model

More egregious than the two Primarchs taking the top two, I'm surprised anyone would have voted for Vashtorr as their favourite model of the year. Maybe he looks more impressive in person?

I was surprised the Harbinger of Decay didn't rank higher, but it might just be whilst its an awesome bit of sculpting, it just didn't get as much attention once it was released.

Commander Dante is the only one that seems a bit of an outcast in the set and is a bit of a surprise; but then he's a marine and a BA so chances are got a lot of votes because marines are very popular in general.

I'm disappointed - but not surprised - that Angron ranked as high as he did with a face only a mother could love.

They really should divide up the polls by game system.

Would be so much more interesting if there was a AoS vote, 40K vote, Warcry, BB, Necro, KT and such.

We all seemed to have known Lionel would win...

True, esp for some of the specialist games that will just get obliterated by this kind of competition. There were some really awesome Necromunda sculpts that just never stood a chance.

AoS at the very least could stand on its own considering how many awesome models its had over the last year.

What an absolute shock to absolutely no one. Vedra and the Harbringer should have been in the top 3.

We as a forum community should do a Worst GW miniature of the year next year, as well.

Gotta call out the faulty work!

Yeah but we'd have to have a mandated "you must own it to vote it" along with proof of ownership.
Plenty of models can look poor in a photo or a minor detail gets highlighted as an issue; only to find that once the model is in hand its really a non-issue. Or that once its painted its a non-issue.

Now, now. This is not a beauty pageant. You can tell because Angron isn't wearing a bikini.

Idk, how is 40k Lion better than the Heresy one. As well as Harbringer, Tyranids and TAU - they are just decent resculpts of not so old models with new technology at hand.
I myself voted for Fulgrim - absolutely amazing sculpt.
Agree with Vashtor - pretty cool/fresh dark Mechanicum thing.

I read the article and was kind of surprised to see that they only had 725 votes?
I would have figured a couple of thousand at least.

Worst model of the year is Deredeo dreanought in plastic. Not because its not cool and stuff, but because its made up of a thousand small pieces and the building instructions are really annoying to read. Its the kind of kit that really drain your entusiasm to finish your project.

It's not the clearest wording, but I read that as either the Lion himself only receiving 752 votes with the others in the Top 10 being very similar numbers, or, given the context of the sentence being the Idoneth squid being robbed of the win, the Lion only had 752 votes /more/ than the cephalopod

The clear winner is the Harbinger of Decay. It hits all the right notes to win a proper competition including the way its designed. The Scythe natural guides the eye down so one can properly take in the model.

That being said, I actually really like the Lion model. However, it is not model of the year.

The Lion is a nice model... but best of the year?

Clearly it's the Cawdor Scrapwalkers that should've won.

The depressing thing is, it seems GW is right about their over-priced, over-sized 'centerpiece models' and special characters

Even Farsight doesn't come across as 'rigged' so much as being aware of what the chunk of the audience that votes in these polls actually wants. I'm curious how it correlates to sales, but I suspect that's also higher than I would peg it.

No, but it helps sift out serial whiners only whining for the sake of whining about something.

Add in we’ve seen various models look a bit crap in photos, only to be a good deal better in the flesh with the right paint job and a better photo angle.

There is absolutely nothing remarkable about lion. At all.

He's just a big space marine captain model in a very basic walking pose carrying a sword and shield.

GW fan voting is pretty lowest common denominator and clearly a popularity contest rather than a model appreciation.

The Lion is easily the best sculpt they put out this year. It's not even close.

I don’t see how anyone can pontificate about why a certain model is ‘clearly’ the best. It was a vote; in the end the Lion was regarded as the best by the most people. I voted for it, because I think that it is a very elegant and well designed representation of a Space Marine. While people can moan about how boring Marines are, ultimately they are a major part of WH40k’s appeal. So seeing one done well is still exciting. I would argue that Dante is a far less effective model (mostly due to the pose), and should have placed lower than the others, but clearly a lot of people feel differently. Angron is a great model apart from the head, which looks a little comical to me; as that’s the focal point of the model it’s a big issue. If not for the Lion, I would have gone for one of the mounted AoS models, as they are all beautiful designs (if perhaps a bit busy). Maybe the mounted Cities of Sigmar Marshal.

It’s true you have to follow the instructions very carefully. And clean up all the components before assembling them. I didn’t like the fact that, despite all the posability, the main weapons can only be in one position due to the power cables. It still ends up looking pretty good though.

My nomination for worst model(s) of the year would be Desolation Squad. The design was clearly an attempt to both go bigger and differentiate the Primaris missile launcher from the classic design, and while a lot of people seem to have come to accept them I still think they look terrible. Even the unit name is awful. I was fine with most of the Primaris models (aside from the proliferation in over-specialised types), but at this point I lost interest. Apart from picking up the Lion (who may well end up modified into a Heresy-era model) and a Brutalis (to finish my BA), I haven’t bought a WH40k model this year.

I voted for the Freeguild Cavalier Marshal; as soon as I saw it I wanted to paint it. Having gotten him for Christmas and assembling him yesterday, I do think that it's a real shame that he was in no way a contender this year. It's such a great mini.

Any idea when the minis locked into box sets will actually be on sale? Feels like a missed chance to bump the interest on them when you cannot buy them.
