Tre has a new kickstarter up, for fully plastic HIPS-on-spru fantasy men at arms. They look fantastic (as one might expect from Tre) and from the description may be a bit taller and beefier than some of his more "true scale" models (though not as thicc as Reaper Bones, probably)

Unfortunately, the funding threshold wasn't met, but for those Tre fans out there he's put this KS up for different metal men at a good price:

Looks good and I backed... but they are the same price that WA charges retail for a box... Wonder what the retail price of these will be eventually. The Reptilian overlords Space Naam guys are $39.95 wonder if that is what the Redbox guys will be eventually too.

Wonder if he has plans for a female sprue stretch goal.

Hm, heads look truescale, so they'd be off with my GW, Atlantic etc...

I'm interested. They look like they'd be useful for a Witcher themed project I have on the back burner. Need some scale shots to be sure though.

I asked about females in the comment section and tre replied;
D

already working on it!

Although an enemies sprue comes between them.

I'll probably pass due to them being so small... but I'm sorely tempted.

Most of my human miniatures are more like 35mm tall. Maybe that guy would be 35mm standing straight?

I find something about their proportions and their attire combined unpleasant.

Tre made this comment in the comments section.

Yes. These are a bit thicker but not taller. My first digitally modeled figures were accidentally taller than I wanted them to be but these will be closer to what people expect from 28mm height...... so not 28 tall lol. More like 32-34 tall depending on posture and head gear.

So not sure... The heads do kind of look small on the bodies... but with Frostgrave, Oathmark, Victrix and WA Conquistador heads will probably look pretty good.

Scale comparison pic...... Not sure if this is OK to do but......

Ok yall I have made a scale comparison pic of one of my figures from this project as it is currently scaled next to a FrostGrave Soldier kit for the sake of reference. I am also working on some other scale reference pictures but finding exact measurement of figures which ALSO have an orthographic image.

So this is the best representation i can come up with thus far for a scale reference

Scale reference was incorrect

hey everyone. Apparently my scale reference image was in correct so I am currently working on a replacement that will more accurately reflect the scale of the figures.

Lovely miniatures. I have a bunch of metal Red Box stuff I'm finally get around to. Tre is one of the best sculptors around, I'd heard he'd given up the job due to vision problems, glad to see he's been able to make the transition to digital and keep working.

Thanks Tom!

Size looks to be comparable to Fireforge fantasy (like Northmen) and modern historicals (like their samurai).

I had found the Oathmark heads rather big and potatoey on the Oathmark bodies... I used Conquistador heads on mine... so I have a bunch of Oathmark heads.., I think They will probably look better on these bodies...

Yeah, Oathmark has the worst scale of all the current plastic options imo. Super short with huge heads and hands.

Oathmark humans proportions are horrible, especially their duck legs.

I made some "scum" mercs using Conq heads and either Oathmark spear and shields or Conq muskets... and I think they look ok... Definitely look more scavenged and desperate than straight Conquistadors do. So for my purposes worked out pretty good. But since they were meant as disposable badguys in an RPG game they werent on the board long enough to really be looked at. I bought a box of Ghost Arch crewmen also for same purpose... The conquistador arms dont fit as well (muskets) on them, but same effect... Though I like the Crewman heads better than the Oathmark heads.

Redbox news: In Kickstarter news we are at $7070 of $20,000 goal. I hope we get to the villains and females level. I will upgrade for all 3 boxes. I have so many options for males that I am really only interested in females... (though I do have a lot of options now for females too). But i cant resist all the plastic...even if my wife yells because I have a ton of plastic samurai sprues sitting on my dining room table untouched....

I hope we get to our threshold with this one. I also think tre is one of the best sculptors out there, and really love his stuff.

I have some of the oathmark stuff, and yea, his work is leagues beyond. But I'd be curious to see if any of the big ol' meatball heads from Frostgrave or Oathmark would look acceptable on these sprues?

Would be excellent if he's able to post some "stretch goal" shots to get folks excited and others to join... But we'll see.

I play...

Sigh.

I will say that this having some right and left hand options duplicated means I can make rogues with daggers in both hands. Or a dual wielding boss with swords in both hands... Also really like the hammers.

EDIT: Or... with Victrix nude berserkers and a torch in each hand, I could make some very awkward male fire dancers to torture my players with.

Thanks for the mention!

Ok These guys are basically the same scale as the old hand sculpted RBG with the one difference ( significantly ) that they are " thicker ".

The female fighters and enemies are not currently planned for THIS kickstarter unless funding goes really really well. Right now i am just concerned with funding what we currently have ready.

AS for scale comparisons I would happily make any comparison I am able that yall want me to make. I would LOVE to have a good GW example to compare with but this would need to be a figure I could get a somewhat orthographic front on image of to scale next to my current example image. I just picked Oathmark and Frostgrave as that was the first suggested comparison to be made by my current audience.

So if yall have a specific suggestion i will be happy to hear it.

Really love these dudes, my only suggestions would be for a couple helmets with visors/full helms, a maybe a few bits of kit and rope. Wish I had more money to throw at this right now, will probably only be able to get a single box.

What is the enemies sprue you are thinking of Tre? Evil humans? Or a combination of various traditional "bad guys (orcs/skeletons/etc)".

This is quite helpful, actually. Could you do some side by sides with some of the old metals?

That's a good idea! I second the notion of full-helm visors down options, if you can squeeze them in there. I smell a stretch goal!

What do you think of having a few "legs closer together" options? I like a group of these guys looking more varied, and the legs look all rather same-ish at the moment?

My suggestion would be to add a single set of rider legs. Legs that would fit with any of the 6 torsos on the sprue. That way, when combined with WA generic horses, someone could make up to 4 riders with this set if they had the WA horses..

Better scale comparison with Wargames Atlantic Figure

December 12, 2023
Hey Yall!

OK I have in my hands ( figuratively of course ) hot off the presses ( also figuratively ) a picture straight from Wargames Atlantic of one of my figures fully assembled next to one of their Conquistador figures for scale reference. I must say I think the match is pretty good!

What do yall think?!

Thanks Smokestack I was just on my way to post this.

As for adding a pair of saddle legs. I have every intention of making my own cavalry but that will have to be on another sprue as I think I have maxed out the room on this one already! hahah

Yall please feel free to tell me what yall are looking for in figures I am always open to suggestion.

35 bucks for that many figures...

Damn good deal, and the figures look great for whatever you need them for. Kings Landing is free, again!

Unarmored troops. Just regular scrappy peasant guys with weapons. Pretty much the same guys, but without armor on.

Great Work Tre, Still a fan!!!!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Can't wait to see how this one goes.

I like the idea of one set of "horse riding legs" but totally get that may not fit on the spru...

I do like the idea of one set of legs being different, however. Running? Legs closer together? All five guys have their legs far apart (a great battle stance, mind you!), and one or two different poses might be nice.

I play...

Sigh.
