Thanks! They were surprisingly simple to paint, though.

Following on the topic of vehicles piloted by greenskinz of smaller stature, here's the final pics of my Gnot Tank.
"...In with the New":
1. I modeled this in CAD and had it 3D printed, so no one has ever seen this model before
2. It's printed on an MJF which is fairly new and revolutionary technology
3. I've really only ever painted one other vehicle, so this is new for me
4. I tried the sponge chipping technique for the first time.

Great work so far everyone, and good luck to all those still trying to finish before the deadline!

For some reason I thought that February has 30+ days

I've decided to scratch the OSL for now and have gone with a grimdark approach to the model. I've seen this online and wanted to try it for some time. It's certainly a different look with the dark edge "highlights".
Definetely happy with how it is coming along.

The power sword blade is pretty much done, same with all the armor. The helmet still needs a bit of love and then the rest of the details still need to be done (studs, Legion symbol etc.)
There's also a bit more work to be done on the base, but overall I think I prefer it this way. The cracks were not really big enough for the super bright OSL source that I originally had in mind. I will definetely try it again in the future with a new base and model though.

All in all the rest should be doable until the end of the month though

Remember, extensions are a thing. While the end of the month is Thursday, if people need a little extra time, we can bump things back to Friday if someone asks.

Going to try today or tomorrow to get those patterns on the bikes, haven't really felt like trying yet because of the big-pile-of-disasters this month I'm still trying to rectify.

Here's Sabe. With her the entire Naboo royal court box is painted.

And below, the picture for the voting thread.

Naboo biggen and da uss-en uthers:

That's my year ending with a bang. I don't usually paint as many models in a month since it hardly leaves me with time for other pursuits. I'll take it a little easier next month so I have time for sculpting and whims and fancies again.

Or part of the troubling Eldar protest we’ve been unable to purge.
Does that mean Eldar are allowed too? I don't play Space Marines anymore, but so far I'm debating between three ideas: Dreadnought from the meme "I will wash the unclean", terrain from wrecked vehicle, or cute tiny 3D printed drop pods for Epic scale. But the Eldar have some cool models too.

Halfling84, "space marine" can mean many things in sci fi, not just GW's Adeptus Astartes.

Folks like me and Captain Brown usually enter Eldar models as a jokey protest. But if you think about it, an Eldar space warrior isn't any less of a space marine than a Starship Trooper or Cpl Hicks.

A lot of people here will probably think me mad but I’m genuinely excited to be painting an Astartes…

It will be my first, and I have quite a few Dark Angels to get through once I start that project. This guy will be a prototype I suppose…

You may be required to sing rebellious songs or storm the barricades if you join the protest. Fair warning…

Sure, we can do that. I’ll push the deadline out until midnight Saturday, which will give everyone 2 days, one of which is a weekend. Let’s end this round on a high note, get those protects done and polished!

I'm looking forward to it as well.

I've been in an unexpectedly lasting 40k mood of late, and I'm happy to use the opportunity to paint a Black Legion model with my grown painting skills. The last one has been a fair while ago.

Glad to have someone else with me on team Astartes… there’s a lot of Eldar sympathizers around here it seems. Blessed are those who stand ready to crush this heresy!

Also, I think I might have made a boo boo before even priming my boy… having gone a bit wild with the DA expansion sprue… who knows, I see, I like, I glue, I paint. It is the whey.

Damn straight! Dark Angels and Black Legion are such a classic bulwark against heresy, and I for one can only appeal to all the others to rethink their silly Ultramarines and Blood Angels and Imperial Fists and join the ranks of the true, righteous defenders of faith!

Weather in my country (netherlands) continues to be cloudseed derp so have hardly any natural light (ongoingly for days now)
Best I can do for pics is this.. hope it doesn't devalue my entry.

rotational vids refuse to come out properly aswell, losing focus constantly so I leave that one out for now and will get back to it for my personal thread.

added info: It may not show as well as it should but I wanted to add that these are not painted in single hue, there's a lot of layering and weathering (with tiny sponges) applied to both the bikes and the riders, linework is not light and flashy but subtle. Soulstones are layered and enamelled. The yellow wings have 5 (!) layers of alternating Iyanden and orange shade, peppered with sponge on the front side with gradually desaturating bright gold into off white, metals are composed with two types of gold and an extra tint of brass etc.. I really hate how the pictures don't convey it as well as one's eyes. So there's that.

my entry:

Hey gang
On a whim I decided to paint up something extra to go with my contest entry, this excellent Deep One sorcerer from Reaper that the wife got me for Xmas, which I'll use as The Flame That Burns Underwater for Carnevale

So a new set of pic entries

And the dockside itself, alone

Looking back I don't have a proof pic, you'll just have to trust me.

On the next challenge subj'..

I don't do spacemarines but I have an idea that will hit that mark anyway. (no it won't involve eldar lol)

On graveimg..
I think having a proof pic is pretty much the only actual prequisite to these challenges at this point and if that goes out the window what do we have left?
You may not have bad intent etc but then anyone can just enter anything they have on the shelve..

Technically not providing a proof pic only excludes you from the vote thread, not participation in the challenge.

I will fully admit to the rules not being enforced evenly. I let a lot of stuff slide. The goal here is to build a community, have fun, and encourage and support our collective growth as hobbyists and painters. The rules are here to encourage that. And when I think they might be restricting it, I will enforce my right as the guy running this show to bend them. So when an established member of the community asks for a free pass, I’m prone to give it to them. Especially if I feel there is no malice present.

If a new person asked for the same thing? I’d still probably give them the pass. Welcome aboard, try to remember next time. Assuming I didn’t feel they were trying to abuse things. They want to drop some golden demon work on the second of the month? I’ll call them on that.

In all the years we’ve been doing this, only twice did I think someone was submitting work done prior to the start of the month. And to be brutally honest, it was mid-teir level work that normally votes in the bottom-third of the pack. So if someone’s ego needs to cheat to get 3% of the vote, I feel real sorry for them, but it’s not going to significantly impact the competition.

The rules are on the book for when we need to enforce them. I could start ruling this place with an iron first. Nobody wants that.

The theme is ‘Space Marine’ (by which it is obvious Nevelon really means Dark Angels or Black Legion)

Others around here say anything Space’y’ or Marine’y’ will be okay but they are agitators. What Nevelon really means is clear.

Obviously, the new challenge will not go up until Friday, so nothing is fixed until then.

But here are some examples from past years:

This month, the theme is our traditional Space Marine round. Tall, short, spiky or otherwise, any flavor of post human super soldier would fit the bill. Alive or dead as base decoration. Pretty much any space-based warrior will work, does not have to be a Games Workshop Space Marine (tm). I’d say the sky is the limit, but we are way past that out into the stars.

This month, as is traditional, we're kicking off with the theme Space Marines! Whether it's the clean and colourful good ones or the spiky, angry bad ones, the new-fangled big lads or the old-school but comparatively tiny ones, or even those action figures they do now, if it's a Space Marine, it's good to go! But that's not all; for those without any of the Emperor's Finest (or their villainous counterparts) kicking around, you've still got options. A tyranid whose base is covered in bits of dead Marine, or an Ork showing off some looted Astartes armour, that's good too. Finally, for those not of a Warhammery persuasion, anything that fits the literal defenition (ie. a ship-based soldier in space), whether its from Infinity or Alien, will fit the bill here if you think it does!

This month, the theme, as traditional for the first round of each year, is Space Marines, those ubiquitous space-borne fighty chaps with all that armour and whatnot. But, as always, the only limit on your entry is your imagination in interpreting that theme. In the past, we've had Orks in looted power armour, Space Marines adorning the bases of alien monstrosities, and even a bemused collection of modern-day marines who found themselves suddenly in space... So go wild, and as long as it's at least somewhat related, you're good!

As mentioned, this month marks the return of the annual Space Marine round. However, you're not just limited to blokes in garishly coloured Power Armour, and you can interpret the theme however you like. In the past we've had Orks in disguise as Terminators, US Marines given a sci-fi makeover, some creative use of Astartes as basing material for various enemy forces.. basically, so long as your entry consists of some manner of Marine in Space, you're good to go! And yes, this does include Chaos Marines, HH minis, vehicles, Dreadnoughts ect, the full gamut of Marine minis on offer.

If you ever wanted to take a dip into the rich history of the comp, links are here:
