They all check out even the Cogfort and there's a few bits still not seen yet.

The walking fort is one of the dumbest AOS concepts yet. A rolling fort pushed by ogres or something I could accept, but a mechanically walking tower is discount mobile game level of design. Why not just make a nice static terrain piece?

The gate gargants are staked to the ground in the front to stop them from walking backwards? It doesn't make any sense.

The heads on the Gallants look like they poke out too high above their breastplates, but the rest is good.

The design of the Grenadiers is very good (except the weird scatter gun and flame thrower). Kind of funny to see all the heavy CoS models straining against their buttons lol, but I don't mind them.

The Cogfort's aesthetic is nothing new. Howl's Moving Castle is popular for good reason. It fits the very high fantasy vibe well.

I assume the gate gargants are staked down to to help them stand up straight even if something very heavy hits their shield? Could also just be to hint at them being less disciplined than regular troops and really needing them to stay put since they hold the centre of the entire formation.

Perhaps its jus to represent that the gun on top fires a MASSIVE single shot from all those barrels at once. So the stake is there to help them brace against the force

I figured it was to keep them in place/balanced for when the dude on the crows nest pulls the trigger on his BFG.

Oh, that is a brilliant call. It didn't even strike my mind considering Leadbelchers exist and these guys dwarf them, but it makes sense since the gargants may not know when their passengers will shoot.

Also physics - the guns are atop a long pole. That means the force of the kickback is no way near the centre of gravity nor mass for the gargants. So if they are powerful shot-gun type blasts it could just pitch them over backwards.

So instead they march forge; slam down a stake to anchor themselves and then BOOM big shot from the top with the chain and stake helping prevent the Gargant being thrown off balance backwards

I wouldn’t bring logic into this.

Not only would that cogfort not work, the whole thing would jiggle a part as it walked. Same when the cannons blast.

Also to defeat it the enemy would just need a trench or small flight of stairs.

So the weird stake in the ground is the least of the problems the gate gargants have. They are just a lazy concept that they already did with the ogor. The gate aspect is unnecessary when the shield wall of the gun guys can break formation and let stuff in or out.

For all those just ignore physics and logic

the weapons in general are inspired by late 14th early 15the century hand guns and cannons
but with those weapons it was either that they were not stronger than a crossbow so recoil wasn't a problem, or if they were stronger needed something to keep them in place after shooting

this was also why multi-barrel cannons became a thing, it was easier to get multiple small projectiles out than one big one for similar impact

Yeah I'm much less bothered by the concept of a mobile clock/steampunk walking fortress than I am by GW trying to cheese the sales by allowing all factions to use it.

GW does do a lot of that nowadays. Agents of Imperium over in 40k is pretty nakedly not really meant to be a serious army in and of itself (it has received very little post-launch updating and generally struggles to function fundamentally), rather it just serves as paid DLC allies for other factions.

Mega-gargants did that too before them. Regiments of renown are the same. Maybe it's GW trying to make what "cross-revenue" sales they can within each game to make up for the games being more siloed off from each other than they used to be.

It makes it a lot easier to justify buying a large expensive centerpiece model if there is a way to use it in an army without running the full matching army, and then could potentially serve as a gateway- I already have a cogfort, I should get some troops to go with it...oops, now I have enough I may as well expand into a full CoS force!

All factions have access to something with the stats of a cogfort - a big, lumbering thing with lots of guns is all that's required.

I didn't know it was an all faction unit, which is kind of sad for CoS players but on the other hand Jaws of Mork cogfort will be a mighty fun project.

Even before learning that I imagined there wouild be a lot of stl/3D printed bits for it, like treads/wheels to replace the feet, as well as the inevitable 40k Ork Cogfort.

Not surprising nor is it without precedent. They did the same with the plastic Giant when it was first released in WHFB.

Makes me realise how much I miss allies as a regular concept.

I was planning out a "Chaos Warriors of all colours" army (Slaves to Darkness with Blood Warriors, Myrmidesh Painbringers, Tzaangor Enlightened modelled as Doom Knights, and so on allied into the army) and while I figure I'll still probably do it, it's now set to be solely a hobby project rather than something playable.

Who knows - give it another edition and the whole allies system might be rebuilt. This is one downside to GWs 3 year system - you never get the sense of growth in the game; just change.

It's in the book as one of the AoRs.

Regarding the upcoming issue of White Dwarf's mini-game for Daughters of Khaine...

Over in the Mortal Realms, you can read all about the deadly trials of Draichi Ganeth – the mythic Tower of Blades – and then try them for yourself in a Daughters of Khaine-themed mini game, where your fighter takes on a Twisted Treelord, Pit Troggoth, and worse.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Tempting to murder the crew, raise them from the dead, and perch a vampire on the roof of that cogfort...

I’d say rip their souls out and infest it with Nighhaunt swirly stuff, but that would be a LOT more modeling...

Supposedly, a few users on TGA have some inside info regarding the lore/5 edition shake-up and they are going to drop it on Tuesday, wanted to give the TGA mods time to prep.

Wild times.

This quote is in response to someone asking why folks who have solid info are waiting to drop it:

+++ MOD HAT ON +++

It is a very good reason. Dozens upon dozens of reports were flooding in. Users were at each others throats. New users were flooding the site. We the mods were also having to make peace with what was being said, having to comprehend what everyone was also trying to make sense of all whilst trying to manage the site.

It was chaos.

I think a great many people on this site don't realise what goes on behind the scenes. We do this for free at the cost of our own time. The site is free for all to use and there is a lot of work behind the scenes.

The influx of new users who came to doompost and antagonise was a strain in of itself.

We are aware of what is being made public on Tuesday and the users who have been given access to this new information have done an incredibly selfless thing and come to the mods first and asked permission before posting as it will put strain on the site and the mods again and we wanted the spotlight to be on Adepticon.

I will not reveal any information as that is for the users to do as they wish. This is not a doompost, we just know any new information from credible sources is going to spike traffic good or bad.

We’ll see what comes of it!

And there are rumors of a 3 towered Cogfort variant.

Mid to late Tuesday it is April 1st in parts of the world already. I remain hopeful of this whole thing being a poor April Fools joke leaked early.

Well said. Although that's only one downside of GW's 3-year churn cycle.

I have been looking at a lot of comment on the Cogfort kit, and how it could be adapted to other factions. - there are some great ideas out there. As a non-AoS player, I think it was the best new model announced at Adepticon. Interesting how all GW's most creative work seems to be channeled into AoS.

Not an AoS player, but sorely tempted by a Cogfort. It’s just a really interesting looking model. And from a hobby perspective a pretty unique challenge, as it’s 50% scenery. So offers a nice mix of painting opportunity.

Think I’d want aged oak beams for the legs though.

IIRC the traditional method is to shoot one in the knee and if they say "@#$% you shot me" then it's the truth, but if they say "@#$% you didn't shoot me" then they tell lies.
