They will destroy half a city (at least) all to save the life of 1 regular person. If that person dies or comes to harm the hero will have a mental breakdown.
They will have no problem with the massive number of other casualties and in general no one even notices that anyone else died or came to harm.

Apparenlry highly trained soldiers, up to an including super secret black ops nut jobs, going entirely to pot the second something mildly unexpected occurs.
Which is why Dog Soldiers is still a refreshing example.

Its right next to the terrible millennial writing of someone saying "Whats the worst that could happen?" followed by someone berating them for jinxing it or being chased by the big bad or monster and then saying "They're right behind me, aren't they? HAHA" quip/gag.
Frankly there's too many cases of trying to be quippy or attempts at using meta humor rather than letting the actual tension of a scene play out because the filmmakers are too afraid to have the audience feel anything other than Whedon slop style jokes every 5 min.

I am also always a fan of the self-first aid scene to prove just how 'Ard they are. /S
Also, aiming has become more of a thing.
I remember Arnold's masterpiece Commando where he climbs over hedges, machine gun blazing, and still murders the feth out of dudes. No aiming required.

It's a common misconception that people in the 80s didn't aim. What's actually happening is a combination of hand-eye-coordination and trigonometry that allows the heroes to calculate the perfect way to hold their weapon in a cool way and still hit the enemy. That's really what separates the good guys who paid attention in school from the less brainy bad guys who suck at math as much as general life choices.
Showy aiming has only taken over in the more recent past because kids these days don't want to do math and instead rely on gizmos to do the work for them.

Nehekhara lives! Sort of!
Why is the rum always gone?
Super children. Like in Jurassic Park 3 where seasoned professional soldiers die within two minutes but a kid with no training or preparation survived weeks in a hostile environment.
Of course there is the classic where the protagonist kills hundreds of minions on the way to the leader but then can't kill the person responsible for everything because killing is wrong. "if I killed you I'd be just like you" ect ect

A little bit, yeah. It was better handled so it doesn't stand out as badly as most. It isn't like she used gymnastics to fight off xenos and she looks like even she is genuinely surprised to have survived that long.

Newt doesn't stand out because there were no soldiers in the colony, it was just colonists and perhaps someone who just managed local security here and there.
They didn't have training, guns or such to protect themselves so they fell really fast.
Newt basically survived by going into ducts smaller than the aliens used and then once the supply of colonists was gone there wasn't any reason for the aliens to patrol in greater numbers through that part of the base. They instead moved to the warmer powerplant and grew their nest.
So Newt works because she didn't do anything fancy or flashy. She basically hide up and didn't stand out nor threaten the aliens. Her only impact was on local food and water; with the former being something we don't really see the aliens ever interacting with and the latter in ample supply.
