From Vallejo's Facebook page, they will be unveiling the new True Metallic Metal paints at Scale Model Challenge 2025 at NH Eindhoven Conference Center 'Koningshof' this coming weekend.

Incredible. Mixing different metal tones and blending them, different shadings etc etc. This will be a world of fun experimenting all combos and the best of it, it suits both experienced and casual painters, both results are very good.

To be fair, turquoise covers a fairly wide range...

It's not the color, it's that they're both named Hydra Turquoise. Vallejo should be glad that it was the Army Painter and not Games Workshop...

I think it's a generic enough name, like so many different companies having an 'Ultramarine', that there's not actually much that could be done about it.

'Alpha Legion Turquoise' would be problematic. But turquoise seems like a pretty reasonable colour for a hydra.

The bigger problem for me is that neither of those colours are good representations of a stereotypical turquoise. The linked rock samples aside, as a colour I picture turquoise as a slightly greenish pale blue. The Vallejo is too blue, and the AP is too green and too dark.

Ultramarine is the name of an actual pigment made from ground lapis lazuli. It's like Raw Umber or Burnt Sienna. That's just the name of the color.

Yes, and it's quite a bit brighter and darker than the Vallejo and AP colors, which were deliberate copies of the GW Ultramarine Blue (or Buttplate Flange, or whatever stupid name it has now).

Plenty of greens and all kinds of metallic tones, this is a metallic sandbox for painters. Clever way to display the swatches too.

Bought me some sets (Aged Metal, Imperial Gold, Rubi Red, Sapphire Blue, Amethyst Purple and Amber Green), I'll try and post some pics of whatever I can make with them

Ok, so quick and dirty test of all sets, basic ass job: take old banged up brush, slap base paint over the minis, wash all over, drybrush all over with the base and the light, done, just to check the theory, these are the results I got on some 15mm beakies and a unit of Forge Fathers

Spoiler:

Aged Metal

Amethyst Purple

Sapphire Blue

Amber Green

Ruby Red

Imperial Gold

I was able to grab a full set of True Metallic Metal paints at Spiel, also had a chat with Vallejo's product designer and a workshop with Angel Giraldez. Do you have any specific questions about them?

Is the airbrush colour in each individual set the exact same colour as the base paint on the set?

When is it available in regular retail?

Yes, just slightly thinner and with a little bit of retarder.

They were already for sale at Spiel, vendors should receive the product in the coming days and weeks (at least in Europe).

Here it's already been released.

Had a bit more time to actually test this stuff... on the left the whole process B/S/L, with a bit of care, about maybe 30m in all, on the right just base ruby red metal

Great thanks that will save me 20 pots of the 80. I don't use airbrush in my painting.

I do think it's a bit of an odd choice to include the airbrush paint with the triad sets to make a pack of 4. I do use an airbrush but am aware a lot of people don't and it really pushes brush painters into just buying individual pots rather than the bundles.
