Huh. Considering how Terran Marine armour is set up (it extends your limbs significantly, with your actual hand being in the suit's wrist, and your feet being in its ankle - ie, what some people misunderstand Terminators to be), does that mean that the Terran in that suit would be regular 40k scale?

Interesting.

Yeah, if Archon keep to the proper scale then Defenders of Man/Dominion Troopers, Reapers, and Ghosts should all be roughly Imperial Guard sized.

This isn't the greatest comparison shot, but you can see Tychus in his armor relative to everyone else standing around him.

Tchus's armour is bigger than normal - just that bit more chunky since he's not allowed out of it at all. He's sort of between a Marine and a Marauder

But yeah Marines are similar to Space Marines in that its a huge powersuit that bulks them up a lot.

I've literally never heard that before. What's the source for that?

This is interesting to me also. I haven’t played it for ages, but I thought the heroes were sometimes portrayed as bigger in the screen to help identify them. Also Tychus is a big boy all round, so his armour would naturally have to be bigger anyway.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

It's covered in the in-game dialogue I think. He's a convict locked into the armour to serve his sentence iirc.

I think he's more secured in than normal - In the spoiler launch video you see him being welded into the suite. Carrying his prison with him and basically his only way out is to betray Raynor.

That's why you never see him out of it through the series whilst Raynor takes his off.

And yes if you look at him in game he looks bigger than all the other marines in almost all proportions - it could be them highlighting a leader but could just be that his suit is indeed bulkier/bigger

To be honest, I assumed that the difference was just his suit being sealed, but that it's otherwise as big as any other.

The hero models are all scaled up in gameplay, Raynor included.

I know that... I didn't think it needed to be specified but I'm specifically talking about the "Tychus' armor is bigger than normal bit"

Him being "more secured" is irrelevant to his size. There nothing on the wiki about that and his armor looks relatively close in size to when we see Raynor wearing CMC in cutscenes. Tychus does have a bigger physique, but only slightly.
Spoiler:

You can't use the game sizes outside of cutscenes to mean anything, everything is out of scale and Blizzard scaled up heroes relative to similar units (since WC3) so they are easily identifiable by the player.

It’s mostly a look at painting the models with only a short bit on the gameplay that gets a couple rules wrong, but it’s a decent preview of the game.

You are totally welcome. There are so many more good painting tutorials for Starcraft appearing each week. I'm going to have to decide which one to mimic. what faction and color scheme are you doing first?

Duncan Rhodes did a pretty decent Terran Marine guide, and a zergling one too. Though I think the Zergling one is subscribers only.

I saw the game last week.

It's pretty impressive. Figures look great, there's a good bit of clear bits for you who just want the figures for diorama's, the game plays brutal and violent.

I'm honestly surprised it took them this long, but when you see the end resulting game and figures, you can see the Pedigree of the game, and the attention to detail that has been given to the project. Interested to see the Marshal, and Kerrigan.

I'm in BTW, as soon as I can get the scratch together to stake on a base box and some side boxes of figures for both beginning sides.

I'm interested to see vehicles, and the Protoss mini's. I'm not sure they are out yet, but there was talk about them.

Oh yeah... the figures are 32mm, or there about. they are pretty big, for wargame standards. You remember those old MARX battle sets? That's what the figures reminded me of.
You are going to have quite a few decisions for those straining hobby budgets, this year.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Protoss are already out, you can pre-order them now and they were selling boxes already at Adepticon.

About the 2-player starter set though, it's labelled as "Founders Edition" by Archon (similar to 40k's launch boxes) so it's only available until the pre-orders end on April 17th. After that there won't be any 2-player starter unless you can find a left over box on Ebay/an FLGS.

There will be post launch single Faction Starters (similar to a GW Start Collecting/Combat Patrol) that replace the Hero model with another box of units (Goliath/Hydralisk/Stalker), but it hasn't been announced yet when those will become available.

I suspect those won't appear until after the pre-order production is completed or at least a good chunk of the way along.

Is this definitely correct? I thought there would still be another 2P starter box for retail release, but it won't be a 'founders edition' (will be missing some of the special characters & a more expensive pricepoint).

If they are going to retail with 1P starter boxes only that is a massive misstep IMO.

I was under the impression that they'd still have a 2P starter but no founders edition with the named hero.

That said firms do seem to flip-flop on the actual value of a 2p starter set. On the one hand they can be good to get new people in; on the other (as GW shows) often as not the big buyers are established fans after cheap models.

Esp when two people often want two specific armies and that doesn't necessarily mean the two in the 2p starter.

So having "starter" sets that just have everything one person needs and nothing else can be of more value. There's no need to "trade away" one half or have one person not get the army they want .

Unless they announced a change of plans in their last stream, then no they've pretty explicitly and consistently said there won't be a direct replacement for the 2-player Founder's Edition after the pre-order. They said maybe they'd reconsider in the future, but it's not decided.

Post launch will be the just the individual faction starters and individual unit boxes.

I think we need to try and get a clarification on this. One of their older videos stated that there will be a 'non-founder' 2P box. Without the characters in it and may have different units included.

They have explicitly said the founder box itself is the pre-order, limited edition one only, that is not the same though as not having a 2P box available at retail at all.

I wouldn't stress over it; we'll get what we get when the game formally launches through retail.

In the end we know the main thing with the founders boxes is the lower price and included named hero. After that if there's a 2player or separate starters only is a moot point.

Just dropping in to share my mate’s progress on the set he got at Salute, as I’ve not seen many WIP this early on. Figured it might be of interest.

He’s a good painter, but doesn’t feel he’s competition level just yet.
