I love both Dredd movies, and for completely different reasons.
Judge Dredd was a bit more cartoony, much more kid friendly. Also, Rob Schneider's comedic relief was on-point.
Dredd is the serious, gritty movie that I prefer as an adult. I also enjoy a good movie that doesn't overdue it with the CDI weirdness. Not too much, not too little CGI in this movie.

I must recommend the 3D edition of Dredd.

Yes, it’s one of the few films where 3D really added something (the slo-mo scenes were spectacular).

Definitely an example of how good 3D can be, when you’ve filmed it in 3D rather than converted later.
I do sometimes miss my 3D telly, but not enough to seek out a replacement.

There is nothing to defend. It had some awesome moments, visuals, and ideas.
However, it seemed a bit pale compared to Stallone's Demolition Man which covered similar setting, but with a different and refreshing style of dystopia.

Demolition Man also had a great Protagonist in Wesley Snipes!

Demolition Man's dystopia is definitely a lot more fitting for the audience it was made for a s well.

I’ve always argued that Demolition Man is one of the few sci-fi films that we’re getting closer to, rather than farther away.

In what regard?
Demolition Man’s society is polite and friendly bordering on passive on the surface, with a harmonious social order and notable lack of violence or spree killings. The only thing Demolition Man got right is Gen Z’s aversion to sex. ::shades::.

Well, there is that pesky social shaming where "wrong think" will get you fined. The huge government overreach, even policing speech in your home. Digital devices listening to your every word and reporting your speech to the higher ups (I make one hemorrhoid joke in front of an Alexa and I suddenly get bombarded with ads for Preparation H in my email. No, seriously). Schwarzenegger in politics. Self-Driving cars. A push for police to use less lethal weapons. Using AI to predict criminal activity.

I’m from the UK, so “less lethal” police is just normal, but most of the other stuff, plus franchise wars leading to monopolisation, wide spread use of video calls, culture being based on memes from generations ago.
Not commenting on whether any specific elements are good or bad, nor saying that it’s a perfect prediction, just that compared to a lot of other media’s “vision of tomorrow”, it feels like they got the general trends better.
