My first airbrush pass. Off to the big smoke tomorrow, so next stages will come later in the week.

I do need to decide on a colour for the captains cloak…

I've got a couple of options for this month, either a shiny new Xmas present that I bought myself - dwarf warriors from the battalion - or some gifts - dwarf artillery or vintage chaos champion.

I've made some progress on the warriors

So, given my usual pace, I'll probably be entering these. Though I painted dwarf warriors last month so maybe I'll get around to doing something different for this month. At least the dwarfs should ensure a vote from Mothsniper!

I've decided to enter a Tomb King for this month. Proof pic:

This particular Tomb King is the one you get if you build the Necrolith Bone Dragon with a priest on it (sadly, GW didn't make it work both ways and you don't get a foot Priest if you build the dragon with the King on it, but that's not important right now). I think he qualifies for the topic on multiple counts, in that he's one of the newest Tomb Kings models (part of the Old World launch rather than the older WHFB range), he has a shiny new toy of his own (the flail), and he will have plenty of gold on him (gold is usually shiny).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Some exciting minis coming in here. That old snake-bodied, chaos champion is a long-time favourite, and I have lovely nostalgic memories of looking at the old Nazdreg and Tomb Kings minis (back when they were the new thing in WHFB) in old White Dwarfs.

@Flinty the colour theorist in me says orange for the cloak, but maybe a dark brown leather or deep purple might end up looking less like a pack of mints...

@Tzurk - I am thinking along the same lines. I did some colour swatching online last night. I am already using orange as a spot colour on helmets for this bunch, and its maybe a bit brutal for a whole cloak. I'll also have yellow-orange from the muzzle flash, so I'm thinking a bit darker into crimson or slightly purply red.

I guess the first minis for my new Adeptus Mechanicus army count as being Shiny and New.

I know entries are not meant to have any paint, other than a primer or single basecoat, on them, but the few bits that already have paint on them came out of my bits box, and I'm going to paint over them soon. Hopefully that's okay.

A Sydonian Skatros, and four Skitaari Vanguard, kitbashed from various sources (I haven't found a head for the Skatros yet):

If you are painting over them, that’s fine.

Month is almost halfway done, plan accordingly.

Unless there is a major outcry, next month is going to once again be “finish it February “ so no vote. Open-ish topic where the goal is to finish project, previously started minis, etc. we’ll waive the “must start unpainted” rule.
If you don’t have something that fits, you can also go with minis putting in the final shots into their target, swordsmen delivering a coup de grace, Mortal Kombat fighters, etc.

If it's okay, I'm also going to enter these Necroserpents as a stretch goal:

Basically I botched building the riders, but there is a unit entry for just the snakes in the Mortuary Cult list for Tomb Kings so they are still a valid unit in the game. I can probably knock out what's left on the Tomb King fairly quickly and wanted to maybe have a chance to do more than just a single infantry sized figure for my entry.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

My entry is coming along quite nicely. I painted up the Sydonian Skatros and one of the Skitaari yesterday:

IF and it's a fupping big if considering we're already halfway through the month. If I get some spare time I'll be painting up this for a shiny new toy.

I'm past the basecoat and first "neaten up" stage:

Now it's time to pack in all of the details I'm wanting to do like NMM armor, inscription on the chainsword, words on the scroll thing down her front, fleshtones and eyes on the face, flames and all the OSL they create, the usual shading and highlights and such, and marble tile on her base. Whew, no pressure!

Thanks guys.
They did turnout quite nifty. The real major victory was in the cutting corners on the cost.
Gradients achieved with a dollar make up sponge dabbing on the body and a $15 airbrush from Aliexpress on the blades.

Not to mention 4 Gyrocopters for the price of 2.

Nice work everyone!

Friendly reminder we’ve got a week to go, and next month the topic is going to be “Finish it February” so keep in mind what you want to do.

Wow those are so well done Mothsniper, amazing work

First bit of business league table has been updated

Second I've not been buying much new stuff recently (trying to clear down at least a few models)

I did however get a Trench Crusade Kickstarter pack the other day which was a nice.

Figured I go for the big guy first.

Same. I am trying to paint more than I buy.
Recently won a good deal on old DustTactics kits on ebay. Just put 1 bit and thought, what the heck, was not planning on winning, but now I have 2 more armies to paint.
The pile of shame and backlog is substantial. Also, do I have enough years left to even finish everything I have? Feels like I am good for the next 30.

Next months theme will big help.

I've done something to my painting arm that is not conducive to painless painting :( It is starting to improve, but I might not make it this month.

Ouch. Heal up.

My plans to paint this evening got canned due the me shoveling snow on my lunch break/after work. My back is killing me and my arms feel like pain-noodles. Not the best time for fine detail work. But a good time for liquid pain killers. Probably a martini, but maybe an old fashioned.

Stay safe and warm out there folks.

I need to finalize the verbiage to make it a little more fun, but it’s going to be something along the lines of “Finish Him!” From a meta perspective we will lift the “must start primed/basecoated” limit so people can wrap up project and clear out stuff from the back of the bench. Or use the time to start and finish the last few models for a project. Or arena fighters performing fatalities, ending duels, climatic battles, or singing nordic psalms.

There's no way I'm getting this month done as it's still not primed. Maybe can carry it on through Feb if that's the theme
