Honestly, I think there's a valid concern they will try and in the process irritate both sides of the pond and make worse both as a result.

It takes a lot of time and effort to make the exhibit pieces, they tend to make 1, maybe 2 a year for Nottingham. Are they likely to rotate them between sites, is one going to stagnate whilst the other gets investment for example?

How will it "irritate" anyone? Having in-house designers isn't going to be hard nor is shipping something over to be rotated between exhibits; that's what museums all over the world do all the time. GW is hardly struggling for cash these days.

80% of the WHW exhibit is just showing off the range, with maybe 20% dioramas, most of which haven't changed in years beyond a good dusting. I like WHW, it's a good bash, but people don't go for the exhibit alone. As long as it has a good gaming hall, a store with all the trimmings, a Bugman's export and events, then it'll do exactly as well as WHW does.

Because whatever the new stuff is there's immediately a 50% chance you aren't going to see it frankly, that's kind of irritating going forwards, same if there are exclusive items to each branch.

As opposed to now, where if you don't go to the UK, there is a 100% chance of not seeing it? Why can't other continents have nice things?

Does it irritate you that the Mona Lisa is in the Louvre or that Tiger 131 is at Bovington?

If the exhibitions have different dioramas (again the minority of stuff in the exhibitions btw), that's an incentive to visit, and it gives people more to talk about.

The US is the largest market in the Americas, regardless of politics it makes sense to be there, especially near the Boston-NYC-Philadelphia-Washington urban area. Literally every major company in the world continues to do business in the United States, regardless of politics.

ITYM, Mega City One.

If I ever visit the East Coast again, I'll make a stop there. But since I'm currently living on the West Coast that would be a major trip.

At least I've still got the local Warhammer store 11 miles from my house.

Because it's a strong shift towards a capitalist structure of having multiple nationalised headquarters, which is kind of diluting the import of the original when it doubles up as a museum/exhibition.

Interesting comparison, I'm not annoyed that an itallian artists painting is in a French museum, no. However there are a lot of nations and peoples who are bothered about the fact that items of their nation etc are represented in other nations museums etc as they feel it dilutes their heritage.

You're quite likely right, but it does feel that this is a step towards devaluing their UK roots, no matter how trivial it seems.

I'd've said another step towards that, given how much attention US events get compared to UK ones.

Hell, the home of GW doesn't even have a Golden Demon these days, as far as I can tell.

You are correct, very little of the community events of note are in the UK any more regards GWs radar, even the event minis I don't think appear over here without a MTO etc.

So the heritage of Warhammer is going to be diluted because the largest playerbase in the world is getting its own GW-themed event hall? That has got to be the single dumbest reason I've seen to be opposed to this so far.

Or alternatively, it's a celebration of how a garage game has become a worldwide success.

The GW HQ in the U.S. was in Glen Burnie, Maryland for years (before Memphis). I visited a few iterations of that store. Admittedly, Glen Burnie is much closer to Baltimore than DC, but close enough. There is a lot of “just outside of DC” locations, and I suspect rent in those is more tolerable than the northeast corridor cities.

Looking forward to it.

That is so unfortunately timed. Something this massive was no doubt planned carefully years in advance, so they could not have known that the situation would become so controversial.

The US is off my list for now and this won't change that. I am unfortunately exactly the kind of person the current regime there hates, and while the risk of going is small in absolute terms (as people are very swift to remind), it's still a risk there's just no need for me to take.

But someday, in a better climate all around, I'd be interested in visiting.

Washington is part of the Northeast Megalopolis, the richest and most populous megalopolis in the USA. Its much more populous and rich than the entire country of Canada, hence a much netter choice. And this is coming from a Canadian

'Tis rare that we seem to be in agreement on a topic.

I think that the event models are maybe available at the Grand Narrative event(s) at the true WHW, but that's about it. They used to be available at UK Games Expo, at the very least, before GW UK's events team imploded.

I hope you're right, just bear in mind most of what you dislike from GW and their games atm come from them pandering to the American tournament crowd and profit first mentality, seeing them expanding to the the most aggressively capitalistic nation on the planet could simply be a celebration, but understand that some see it as a step towards them possibly wanting to join the heavy hitter corporations over there and their practices.

Happy more people will have a cool experience though.

By the logic of the USA being the biggest market I guess it would be justified to just ship everything over there and close the UK operation entirely in pursuit of profit. Never mind that it's a British property through and through, and the USA already have plenty of homegrown things they can celebrate, there's a few more of them so screw us I guess

Considering that at WHW in Notts there is a very good chance of randomly getting to chat with staffers who make the stuff, I doubt it.

This is a good point, but I will be honest I couldn't tell you who writes the games or does anything on the art side as its not publicised, so they could walk past me and I wouldn't recognise them.

Business -wise it's probably sensible. Boasting about it, all the other things considered, is questionable, though.

Better than the land of no parking. I worked in D.C. - stayed in Alexandria.

In Florida, you have tons of attractions from Legoland to SeaWorld, Disney (minus the Star Wars hotel now), Universal, etc.

Weather is better. Our winters hover around 60° while our summers can reach 90° - but that's what the beaches (or air conditioning) are for.

It honestly seems a more tourist friendly location to me.

Other thing to consider? GW, and GW alone have their sales data. So we can’t rule out (or in, for balance) that the DC area is slap bang in the middle of their largest markets, geographically speaking.

It must be really awkward setting this up now. Like just getting the news every day must really make planning difficult even over just what usually comes up with something like this.
