There's no law against scalping in the UK. It's likely just a supply issue. The UK will have a lot of boxes put up for sale and if stores don't have ways to reduce or precent scalping people will take advantage of it. Also worth mentioning, any eBay listing right now is highly speculative as pretty much nobody actually has a box to sell right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see many of those listings not come to fruition in a couple of weeks.

Yeah two hours after preorders went live there's still several places to buy this box.
Most issues seem to be specific to individual stores, either because they're playing cautiously with the orders they take or because their website isn't coping with the traffic.

A lot of independents have been getting less than they wanted to, even after the GW reps have been hyping it up to no end with hints that they should order more.
As of typing, one local store still has a 100+ in stock.

My GW rep was asking for speculative numbers for weeks, but like a lot of stores we were only sent 30 copies. Had a few people to disappoint.

Is GW not doing location based pre order swag? I know in prior editions you could get random stuff depending on where you placed your pre order. IIRC stuff like gameboards, objective markers, pins. depending on if you got it from a FLGS, local GW, or webstore.
Nothing like that this time around? Just get your box and like it?

IIRC this time around the extra stuff is kept for their own stores as exclusives, I see no mention here of exclusives being offered through independents.

Plenty of people on reddit are already posting their boxes.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

I didn't think GW even sent out the boxes yet - at least to general stores. Influencers for sure I'd expect to be showing off boxes now for the marketing; but actual retail release sounds odd.
And risky cause if the stores get caught out they will likely lose their GW trade.

Normally they don't, but the 40k launch boxes are a exception to help the logistics. I've seen plenty of UK indies standing next to their pile of boxes.

Well, hopefully, someone other than a scalper is benefitting from my not buying a box. I decided that after being in the fray since 2nd Ed, this release wasn't for me. Maybe the Marines later but not the whole set. 2027 Hachette partworks?
As a plus, I did have the funds availabke for Hasbro's new A New Hope retro figure set instead. 5POA Wedge Antilles and Capt Antilles for the win.

Funny enough Element still saying out of stock since this morning. Makes you wonder whats happening there and how not reliable they have become when shopping for any new 40k box sets online.

Got my copy on order at the local GW store. Manager didn’t have a problem getting the 16+ on his list through the kiosk in the back, and said he’ll get an additional 20 on top of that for the shelves.

Its strange. Had a quick look on Wayland and they still seem to be taking pre-orders. I did see a mention online earlier that Element have staggered pre-orders before and that could be what they are doing now, but no indication of that on their site.
In any case I've opted not to get the box.
Its a nice box but doesnt have anything I desperately want, and I want to try and clear down my backlog a bit more before adding to it.

I went to the GW US site and was able to add one to my cart. I'm not interested in the big set, so I didn't check if the sale would complete or not.
Any guesses on when the other starter sets and/or the books will go on sale?

Alchemist, Darksphere, Wayland and GW themselves are all still allowing preorders in the UK.
I'm still curious to see if my prediction of some Saturnine-style discounts will materialise after release, as third-party stores try to shift all these boxes.

Element have opened a bunch of stores so it could be cash flow is tighter than big online sellers with only 1 or 2 storefronts,
or maybe they've just had a lot of stock pre-reserved for instore purchace because they've got multiple sites

A good many larger stores will hold back stock for the launch date. They've still got 2 weeks to build up pre-orders and then the launch week itself. So its about a solid month long of sales

I Just picked up a second copy of the most 'recent' Age of Sigmar launch set on huge discount just a few weeks ago from my local store.
This 40k set no longer has the cool big book which is jammed packed with fluff and art, which is usually a big selling point to me for even picking them up in the first place. I just don't care about a 'core' rule book being included, seeing as they change they every other week with updates and tend to play other rules/editions anyway. I bet I can safely hold on for a massive discount in a few months time, or get the orks as they get piecemealed out in the next inevitable hachette magazine just before the next edition, or when people start dropping unfinished sets to the second hand section around christmas.
I suspect this set not selling out means its been massively over produced compared to normal items, but its to be expected for their 'flagship' game.

We did have an hour or so of both insane levels of traffic. Highest user sessions we have ever seen my miles and though the site scaled to nearly 50 times normal it still struggled. Coupled with some nefarious attacks which tied up resources on the hosting without trying to checkout.
We have put a lot of resources into stopping bot attacks for limited launches. It has worked for the most part but it is an arms race and its going to be a constant battle.
We have ordered a lot. So shouldn't run out for a couple of days. We have set aside stock for retail of course for the release weekend etc.

That was a big book because it was a combination of lore and the rulebook though. This set still has both of those things, it's just split into 2 books now with the lore side being the Operation Imperator book.

Which honestly is very sensible - the BRB is an awesome publication but its a pain in the neck to actually game with. Splitting the two is a good move SO LONG as they are always sold together.
Even if Gw later does a small format rulebook on its own; I'm a big fan of the rules and lore being bound together into a single purchase.
I think without that its VERY easy for people to just get the rules and nothing else. Over time that means losing a connection to the lore, background and history of factions and that I think takes something away from the game experience. If you make it too much a game by the numbers and lose the story you lose a whole layer of engagement and fun within the hobby.
