Are these online anywhere?

If not can someone point me to the WD they showed up in? I think it would be fun to check them out.

I don't know if they are online anywhere, but their rules appeared in WDs 217 and 218.

I'm pretty sure they didn't.

They first reared their unwecome heads in 3rd, didn't they?

Nope, they and their original 2nd ed rules were released right before 3rd, maybe within 6 months or so of its release.

Fairly sure that the Warriors and Scarabs at least were out quite a bit before that.

From memory, they originally released those two as a box with rules in WD, to test the waters, and then some time later released the Lord, Destroyers and Immortals to give them a usable army.

I dunno, it was pretty darn close to 3rd edition if I remember correctly.

217 and 218 are correct. 217 I think came with a free metal necron, and a scenario for using it. Then rules for squads of necron warriors were released, and rules for scarabs. (Scarabs were really wierd back then, they could land on tanks and eat the armour off them, so that they were really easy to destroy.)
Necron warriors were T5 too I think.
Later rules and models for immortals came out, which I think had T5 and a 2+ save, and possibly S5.
They were out well before 3rd. Necrons were an all metal army for at least a year.
Edit: And yeah, I remember the metal destroyers now aswell. Man, Necrons were way cooler when they were a completely unknown threat. In some ways, the 3rd edition fluff sucked some of the fun out of 40k for me. Though obviously other people loved it.

The old Battle Bible had the stats for 2nd edition Necrons. I'm sure that it's floating around the web here and there.

They were definitely there for the end of 2nd ed. I fondly remember torturing my buddies with them. A Lord, 20 Warriors, a Destroyer and 6 Scarabs was a fun match against most armies of the time.

I still have those WD at home somewhere. I may have to go back and visit them.

Yep. They came out shortly before or after Sisters of Battle. I'd say around 1996-ish, maybe '97. That'd put it a year before 3rd ed.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I still have that metal Necron, still in the blister.

No idea what I can do with it...

Lord

Warriors

Scarabs (originally didn't have bases, these have been based for the current rules)

I was pretty much horrified by those sculpts, except for the Immortals, which I loved. Thanks for the trip down memory lane with those guys, insaniak!
