Bought the new Space Marine Codex today, and inspired, I am now considering collecting an Ultramarines Force.

But not just any Ultramarine force. Oh no. That would be far, far to simple.

I am considering an all Metal one, with the Tactical squads comprised of the models of Tyrannic War Veterans and other assorted Veterans, and the Elites swallowed up by Sternguards.

Why do I contemplate this madness? Well, it's all about how I view Marines. To me, there is no such thing as a Standard, Ensign Expendable Marine. Each and every one is a mighty hero, and after every victory, his armour is adorned with care by the Chapters Articifers to proclaim his mighty, loyalty and faith that his enemies might tremble before this mighty foe, and know that their death has come.

The look I am aiming for is one of mighty warriors of Legend, and their Warmachines. The Rhinos, Predators etc, will all have not just Forgeworld Doors and Plating, but also the Brass Etchings. Dreadnoughts will all be Venerable, as well all should. Terminators too.

*everything* in my army is to be of Legend. Space Marines simply should not look Run of the Mill, as even becoming a Scout is a mighty effort on behalf of the acolyte, and I will have my men look every inch the Heroes they are.

Why.....why do I do this to myself. My Wallett is screeching it's protest at the coming storm of spending. And although I do not embark on it yet, I know it is inevitable.

Besides, I can't take your medication, prescribed though it is, as there are several pints with my name on them which are being consumed tonight, ergo no painting. But I do have two days off, and intend to paint the Boarboyz and Boyz then.

The sad thing is after eight years of completing the all-metal army it will be so heavy you will need a forklift to get it to tournaments like your 832 lb. uncle.

If you move you can't shoot your guns, kinda defeating the purpose in having the tank in the first place. Remember, you can only ever do one thing at once in 40K. You can't be a tank that shoots and be an effective transport at the same time, unless you're a Land Raider, and even then only if you're an Ultramarine Land Raider (as Dark Angel, Blood Angel, Black Templar and Chaos Land Raiders are all completely different despite costing the same amount of points).

So make your squad do one thing, and one thing only - there ain't enough time in 40K to multitask.

This army is there to look good as you kick it's teeth in! I will win with my mind, tactics and general demeanour!

Besides, I like Razorbacks. Theory is that they can either deploy with the squads, or nick off and leave them, enabling me to manouver my Heavy Weapons where they will be of most use!

I mean, come on. I'm most of the way there with an entirely Frenzied Orcy Army. Do I look like someone concerned with a good win rate? I can't control them! I can't declare *any* charges, because of Frenzy, and thanks to animosity, I can't really predict whether they will charge or not! Mad as a box of Hatstands made from Frogs. My Wyvern riding Warboss is even strapped underneath it to prevent him jumping off into the enemy regiment (no, really. All converted and everything)

I would suggest you go for the all metal smurf army, but only if you make a gargamel shaped titan to fight against them I am the last one to speak about craziness I only have a chapter of Dark Angels.

The super value of the core box set has me considering an SM army in the cheapest plastic I can. I want to do one of those comedy chapters like Pretty Marines or Angry Marines, but I need another theme.

Drooled over the new 'dex today. Someone at the FLGS threw down the gauntlet about making a company. Now I have to make a company, lest I be called out as a woose. 'Cept I'm going for the plastic; I may be swayed by peer pressure, but the wallet keeps me in line.

That fluff is just Imperial Propaganda anyway. When you start looking at 40K wars on the Epic and Battlefleet Gothic levels you begin to understand how unimportant elite infantry can really be in the course of a major campaign.

Backed up by a standing las/plas combat squad.

The Pretty Marines are already taken. By me.

The starter should be good for Lazy Marines as they are rather fond of Dreadnoughts. But the only internet meme chapter that to my knowledge isn't taken yet are the Reasonable Marines.

I have considered the following -- Miffi Marines, Judge Marines (with wigs) and Betty Boop Marines. Cowboy Marines might be nice.
