i just finished Fallen Angels. FANTASTIC.
It bridged the ideas in "Descent of Angels" and "Angels of Darkness" phenomenally.
I am really looking forward ot anything that Mike Lee works on. He can take established stories and characters and make intriguing reads out of them.
I want to see where the main Heresy storyline goes character-wise. Lion is getting interesting.

The reason I didn't like it(not sure if it's the same reason for Lord-Loss) was because the author wrote Fulgrim a bit too much like a Mary Sue then found whatever reason he could to alleviate Fulgrim's guilt in the Heresy. If the Daemon Sword possessing him is older fluff, I'd never come across it before, but it seems older fluff suggests Fulgrim was a willing participant in the Heresy, not the victim of possession. Personally, I preferred Fulgrim when I was ready to read about him being a tragic figure lured to Chaos by his obsession with perfection, not some talking sword that he allowed to take his body cause he felt bad for allowing his legion to become addicted to experiences that tickled their senses.

Interesting - I read the FUlgrim book as more of a continued vilification of Fulgrim's choices. Prior to the book he was obsessed with perfection and his obsession led him to a fall from grace. But in Fulgrim he seeks perfection and leads his entire Legion into wanton excess, debauchery and heresy. Then he gets so mopey and wimpy about it that when he's offered a coward's way out he just runs away from his problems to hide inside himself (albeit that deal didn't quite go as he'd hoped). All in all I think he appears more debased, heretical, and weak in Fulgrim then in prior source material, not less.
I also liked the interaction with Horus at the end - it really showcased the Warmaster's overwhelming pride that led to his own fall.

Fulgrim -
Basically the sword didn't totally change him, or his character. It just nudged it enough in his quest for perfection, and deceived him just enough when he was considering Horus's offer of betrayal so he wouldn't betray the plan, to push him over the edge into debauchery and chaos, and then to insanity. When he realized what he had done, he wished to end his life, and is fooled by the sword into allowing himself to be possessed.
Thats my take on it in my 4 reads of the book.

Flight of the Eisentien is my favorite- it brilliantly portrays the tough decisions that have to be taken when in command.
I particularly enjoyed the depiction of Dorn's reaction. Brilliantly done.

Though in true Space Marine fashion most of his decisions can be summed up as; "well, better hit it with my sword."
I liked the book though and I agree, the author nailed Dorn about how I felt he should have been portrayed.

I think Legion was the best one I've read so far, in regards to the quality of the writing. Thats probably because Dan Abnett is actually a good writer.
I also like Ben Counter though, which lead me to read his Soul Drinkers series.
I didn't know Gav Thorpe was writing a Heresy book, I'll be interested to see how that turns out.

I have to agree, Legion was a fantastic read, though in the beginning I felt a bit overwhelmed with all of the new terminology that was being thrown about.
Because of that book, I've started in on my own Alpha Legion folks as an Elites choice in a Renegade Army (Vraks, vol 2) for use with my existing IG.
Battle for the Abyss was a bit weak IMO, and Mechanicum took too long to really get going - but the end was 'enlightening'.

My problem with Legion, and actually most of Abnet's books is he has no idea how to end them. He can draw out a story for 390 pages and keep me enthralled but then in the last 10 pages he wraps it up leaving me wondering 'huh'? I thought the twist at the end of Legion (SPOILER - Alpha Legion joins CHAOS!) came out of no where. Sure he give them a reason, but why in the world would they believe the information they got?
Abyss was OK, it just wasn't really a HH book. When the Word Bearers build the most humungus space ship EVAH! an all star team of Ultras, Wolves and World Eaters has to stop them. It was OK for what it was (space fights and boarding actions) but swap the Eaters for say Flesh Tearers and you could have a normal 40k book. I think this is what pissed off a lot of people.
