Hi!
I'm a big fan of the Genestealer Cult. I've started on second edition with Tyranids and later I've collected and Imperial Guard. It's a shame that I sold my armies long time ago.
Now, with the 5th edition I'm Back and my Genestealer Cult (Imperial Guard with a lot of green stuff and genestealer boxes ) needs a good place to fight.

Few months ago I bought 3 tables and made my first board. Functional, but a little bit boring!

(roads made of sandpaper)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Seeing my little bit boring table I thought the board needs one or two buildings that can block the "line of vision".

How can I introduce buildings with a little originality?

That's It! I will make damaged buildings! ( oh ****. The TV eated my brain? I'm a zombie? That's all of my imagination? )

C'mon. Try another time, RUNE! You can do better than that.

Oh, wait. I have and idea. I will make 4 bases. One base for an autocannons turret (from Aegis defense line). We will think autocannons destroyed something (like a land speeder) and it crashed with two buildings. The other base is for a big lockgate

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Bu,but it continues with a boring grey color. Every fuc***ng table are grey! No! No more cities of death! Be different, RUNE! Think!

Ok. Let's try something... brown! ( , definitely I'm a zombie). Ok, I turned the table on the other side, go to the beach, stole 2 kilos of sand, go to a park, stole little stones (search for a place with no dogs pissing, please), buy 2 kilos of glue, 5 cheap paintings and...

But. There is no personality. Another time, so much boring.
Ok, ok. I will fix that.

TACHAN!

An ork skull! I'm a genius, right? (Ok. I promise to stop watching Heroes and Smallville). And I will add more sand and stones.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Ok. The new paint scheme seems better. Painted models look good with that terrain.

Let's take a look with bases, buildings, simple hills and other stuff

Very well my friend. Stop watching Smallville was a good start.

I recommend working with pink insulation foam sheets instead of that white stuff that is comprised of beads. It is superior in every way for making terrain! Try it out.

Thanks for the comments. It is not white stuff. It's purple/blue foam (I think same or at least, vey similar to the pink insulation foam you talk). But my phone camera. sucks. Sorry for the color.

Now, it's paint time! (prepare your tears)

First thing to do: buildings and bases (the floor aren't glued yet).

These are at very first stage of painting an modeling. One think I forgot to say it's my priority: board, buildings and other stuff will be modular and not glued to table. My girlfriend will kill me if I can not put away all the stuff and we haven't a palace

Thanks!

Now, I will try a rust effect. First I must say I've never painted anything. I played on second edition but never got a brush. To paint a board it's my way to learn to paint without ruin expensive models.

And now, the rust!

It's looking great! The wall of skulls in the last pic is great, with that xeno-corruption. I have some heavy flamers that would love burning that wall xDD

My phone camera isn't great (HTC Magic) and change the colors (adds red color).

Thanks. I'm working with rust effect. I want to improve my skills.

Now, my Imperial gu.. ops, I say, my genestealer cult needs bases for the models. Troops, heavy weapons teams, sentinels...

And the first objective marker:

OK, now, we need the background of our genestealer cult and our planet.
! What's up with a mining planet? The miners founded remains of an ancient Tyranid infestation and wake up two or three genestealers.

Now, we need miners:

And we need the tyranid archaeological remains:

I'm really digging the remains it looks awesome, you might need to do some fluff about how the nids got their etc though, just to play it safe.

The fluff is done, but my poor english don't let me write it correctly. I will try in a few days. Promised

And now, the archeological remains painted (but not finished)

I have to add boxes, spotlights, a shovel... and paint the sacks.

This table has come a long way. The idea for the buildings (plane-thing crashing through them) is great and very well executed. The bases are looking good. All the wonderful details, like the nid fossils, are awesome.

Keep it up!

Thank you for posting the terrain, very inspiring. By inspiring I mean great ideas to copy for my own nefarious purposes

The Carnifex digsite is really brilliant. A genius use of bits.

One thing I have to suggest. As much as I love the paint job on the exposed pipeline, there needs to be some dirt added along the edges where it meets the ground. Right now it looks too much like sections of half-pipe glued on top of flocking, which is really too bad. Judging from the ripped out floor tiles, you totally have the modelling skills to bring the pipeline up to same level as the dip site by closing off those seams.

Yet another thread to follow,

Cheers,

The pipes are not finished. Nothing is finished.
Actually I'm searching for a good color (for the pipes) and I'm not sure. Green, white?

I like the white pipe in the bottom right hand corner of the pic. I'd go with that. White, but heavily weathered and stained.

Of course you can ask. I'm glad to answer you.

The ingredients:

What I did:
1. Apply the pigment (brown iron oxide from Vallejo) with an old brush.
2. Vallejo Model Color Purpleheart Red. I use a stippling brush (I made it with a cheap and old brush #12). Take care. Don't press too much. And don't put too much paint on the brush.
3. Vallejo Game Color Plague Brown. Same as with Purpleheart Red. Less paint.
4. Vallejo game color bone white. Very little paint.
5. Apply one or two "touches" of chartadon granite (citadel Foundation) with sponge.
6. Vallejo Matt varnish (spray).

And you have this:

If you have any more questions, please ask me.
