Just wanted to get some general opinions. I have lots of stats to guess with but not a general feel based on anecdotal evidence. Currently working on a lot of optimisation at the moment so if you have comments as to what you find slow or annoying, here is the place to put them. Poll will run for a week then vanish! Please dont consider post delays in your judgement - that is a different kettle of fish altogether.

It's pretty near instantaneous for me. Any latency I notice is caused by Firefox, as it happens on other sites too.

The only times it seems slow for me are either when you're actively working on something, or when it seems to want to go and get the ad data from a slow-ad site even though I'm a DCM. Sometimes it seems like I catch a glimpse of an ad, and then it disappears. Wouldn't it be simpler to not go and get that ad if it wasn't going to be displayed?

Edit: of course, then I get the other example. Sometimes it takes quite a while to send data to the site. That last message took over a minute to go through.

I voted for the 5th option as it tends to take longer than other forums for pages to load.

Thought it would be worth seeing how long.
Voting a slow option seems to have cured the problem and the pages have never popped up so fast!

of course now I have said this, it will revert back to normal

I assume the speed may be related to the amount of traffic?

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I've put down average. Dakka is fast, but so are my internetz. I wish the pages were a teeny bit smaller so I could comfortably use it on my phone's meagre data allowance, but that's also only really relevant to me.

Still waiting for Dakka Lite.

As for me I sometimes (but scarcely) encounter some lengthy "saving" or "sending" when I post something up...

Since it's very rare and random, it usually blame my Firefox for it... But, now that you mention it...???

Another point which seems very random is when trying to upload some images, they sometimes take quite alot of time to be available in the gallery. Yeah, I know, processing delays, and all that... Still, it happens to be quite unnerving, from time to time...

Anyway, nothing preventing us from enjoying this wonderful site!!

My experience is that load times are fast, but sometimes response from the server on interactive things like editing a post or submitting a new post can be a bit wonky. This often results in the need to go back and do something like editing and submitting again or as we've seen a bit lately, double posts for new posts when people only clicked the submit button once.

Sometimes it can be rather slow for me. But then again I'm usually opening multiple threads. When in the painting and modelling sections I can well understand the speed drop but the background board does too.

Disclaimer: I don't know Lego personally, and haven't had so much as a conversation within a post with him but this seems so obvious to me that I wish to state it to who ever might read this.

I believe the reason that Legoburner said not to consider post speeds when voting here is that the reason for the slow down is the automatic filters, he would be aware of the issue but it really can't be avoided. Reasons I believe this to be true:

- How many admins are active on this site vs. how many threads? Then how quickley are issues addressed?

- How many Spam posts do we see?

- How many posts consisting of absurd amounts of profanity or verbal abuse of members? Note the key word here is absurd amounts i.e. more then you would see at your FLGS.

Then again I might be over tierd and talking out of the wrong end, but I thought it's worth throwing out there. I'm kind of wondering if I'm right?

Sorry ComputerGeek01, posting delays come from database locks (95% of the time) and email subscription processing. The filters are highly efficient cached regexes that run in a fraction of a second. There's something like 350-500 run on every post but it takes no time.

As for the results here, I'm chuffed that it is so positive, but am still going to be working hard on keeping things running quickly.

The few people that find it slow probably are browsing when the backups happen which locks the database a bit more and slows general browsing noticeably.

it's not overly slow for me. but it does take a second or two more for me than other sites.
what's actually annoying is that other sites seem to load all at once but here it seems like someone is unfolding a peice of paper downwards.
