For a beginner, you have included many advanced concepts such as highlighting, weathering and good basing.

Already incorporating these and understanding them will mean you should advance along the learning curve a good deal faster.

I think you've done a great job of solid table top standard marines.

I think you've been let down on only one thing from where I'm sitting and that's your red helmet marine, due to his eyes. My advice for this is to go for a completely different shade of red for the helm, take the helm down into darker reds (scab red, perhaps mixed with scorched brown for the recesses and raise the eyes into a bit more orange to define them both.

But well done overall sir!

Very kind of you all, thanks for the advice on the eyes, I wasnt happy with it myself, so will come back to this one and try to work on them, I must say though I find small detail really hard to do, i suffer from Fibromyalgia, which causes me terrible pain in all my limbs, especially my hands, Im constantly have to wear morphine patches for the pain, but yet I get immense pleasure from painting these and of course its a whole new way for my son and I to enjoy playing games, as running around with a football is no longer viable.

Great start IMHO. It's easy to be critical of your own work especially when the only comparrison to hand is the Eavy Metal stuff on the box. Keep at it

Definatly a good job for your first effort. I would suggest trying to keep your paint thinned out a little bit with some water. It helps to keep the surfaces smoother. Keep practicing you'll be pro in no time.

Eh....I don't really believe you. That captain is better than a lot of stuff I painted when I was at your level...Then again, I had almost no paint at my disposal at that time....Ah well. Good work!

That is a nice space marine commander! Are you using washes? They can really add depth and detail

Ive been using washes very limited really at the moment, until I get other things down a bit better I will try experimenting a bit more with washes.

That's a nice paint job for a first timer, well done you!

My eldar army features one unit of dire avengers which where the first minature of any kind that i've ever painted (about 4 years ago) and another unit of dire avengers which i painted about 3 weeks ago. It's really weird to see the big difference in quality but good to see how much i've improved over the past years.

this is nice stuff for a first timer! I like that you commited to finishing the bases also, thats something many noobs overlook. I think you have great potential in your painting future. As you gain more exp, your eyes and lens will be more defined, you will also figure out techniques that will help you along the way. Good attempts at highlighting too. Now for your first piece of criticism: start thinning down your paints when you apply color to a model. Eventually your eye will catch this, but that will definately improve the look of your models. Yeah, it sucks to apply several coats of color to the model, becomes redundant and I dont know anyone who enjoys it, but the result will give you a very smooth look to the marines. Great work, look foward to more!

A really good start - my first models were a total mess. You may want to thin down your paints a little but otherwise it's just practice

Man, I love your ultra's.
You are 100x better than I was when I first started painting, and for first time models, you nailed tons of important details.

Also, cute cat.

Not only are your first models really good you go and improve your skills in a very short period of time, the bikers look awesome. Also thumbs up on your rather handsome cat. I remember our Mogg used to sleep on my dads railway, i think it's something about flock/static grass for cats, that or they enjoy feeling like godzilla...

I think you've done very well for your first attempt. I think you did a very good job on the bases, I think good bases makes a model look complete and you'v started off on solid ground.
