Just started Daemons as a side army. Will be using them in Fantasy too, but only used them in 40k so far.
Only painted four Flamers so far. The above one is my fully painted test model; it has been highlighted and I've added glow effect for the flames.
So far I've got:
3 x Heralds of Tzeentch done
Masque counts as model done
15 x Flamers of Tzeentch done
10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle done
10 x Plaguebearers of Nurgle done
10 x Plaguebearers
12 x Screamers of Tzeentch done
Soul Grinder done
Soul Grinder done
Soul Grinder
At the moment I've paused painted as ran out of black undercoat, luckily the missus has picked up a can for me today!

Finished two whole units of Flamers now. Got four models left and I've done all three units. Time to do some work on the Heralds and Plaguebearers over the weekend me thinks .

Those are looking nice Mercer. You should look into some wet blending techniques for the highlights on the blue bodies. It's easy to do and really effective on organic forms.

I'll investigate. Thanks.
The way I've done them atm is enchanted blue (or whatever it is called now), washed with blue wash, then gone over again with the blue making sure to leave the shadow. Fire was done in layers using blood red, blazing orange, sunburst yellow and ceramite white. Tentacles were foundation flesh colour, which I've got some pink horror to highlight with.

I've been a busy bee this weekend and been really cracking on my Daemons. I've sort of done two Heralds of Tzeentch and got to a point where I am really not sure what to do. Looking for feedback and suggestions on the Heralds; maybe I could add a spell book, or Tzeentch symbols or greenstuff some braclets?
I will be adding some wash to the claws and horns to darken them down. I might add some highlights to the skin, as there's not a load of shadows atm. The one with the triple heads has got a few feathers, which will add some colour and I think solve the bland look on that herald. Oh, the rear tentacles haven't been finished; they need blending properly. I've literally just had the idea of ripping the arms out of the one with the the multiple eyes and jamming Daemon Princes arms on; should give it should colour.
Finished 10 Plaguebearers over the weekend. I was going to double wash them, but I think they look ok. They will be getting highlights in the future on the red patches and the boils. I'll also do the fly head eyes blood red. Rust will be added to the blades either using a weathering powder or stiple; I'll probably use the powder as it is the most easiest.

Hopefully I can make them stand out that little more. I am going to add a little white on the eye, bit of yellow on the blisters and rust on the swords. I was going to highlight the skin, but I do not think it is worth it.
Any thoughts on the two Heralds? I think they look a little bland. I am thinking of using greenstuff to add bracelets and trinklets. Also I have a spare book from the Chaos Sorcerer, which I can cast using greenstuff.

Couple of thoughts... I think the paint job is a little one-dimensional. Mix the pink up with white for a couple of shades and do some highlighting. You can paint the raised areas or even some drybrushing would help. Then blend the pink down a shade with a dark red and paint into the recesses and undersides. Finally a wash of some sort... probably a straight red or the old Ogre Flesh (whatever color that's become). That will really make them stand out. Before washing, you might mix in some flesh color & perhaps some white with the pink and blend the emerging heads to nearly a normal flesh color.

I saw your blog at work today and had to wait ages to make a comment!.
The Plague Bearers and Flamers are looking very nice. I think the Heralds need another colour maybe fade to blue down the arms and legs to the hands they need something to break up the pink.
For the Plague Bearers Rusty Swords always look nice and some gloss varnish or water effect on their intestines and hangey out bits will go down a treat. Using gloss varnish on the eyes would give a nice effect as well.
Looking forwards to seeing more.

Thanks for the tips, dude. I think a drybrush with a pink and white mix should work well. I think orge flesh maybe sepia, but I might be wrong.

Thanks about the Plagues and Flamers. I'll go back and add more detail to them in time, but for a basic paint job they are ok.
Yes, the Heralds do need something else. I'll try fading, I guess plenty of practice with wet blending should do the trick.
I've got some Forge World rust weathering powder, which I will be using for the plague swords. I was going to use stiple effect with brown and orange, but I don't think I can do it so well, plus a powder is loads easier.
I was going to add gloss varnish ('ardcoat) to the internals. I didn't think about the eye though, I will try it. I think it may give the eye a glazed look, which is cool.

I've been a busy bumble bee last night and decided to break out the greenstuff. I've had ideas running through my head how I can nurgle up futrue Soul Grinders. My plan was to paint my existing one and not add any greenstuff, well I was a eager beaver and that all went to pot. It did work out nicely though, as I wanted to add something to my Heralds as they look really bland atm.
Here's the Soul Grinder with nurgle greenstuff. As you can see I've put a fair amount on it. I basically got some greenstuff and stretched it over the model and smoothed it down. I then got a screwdriver and stabbed it, moved it, twisted it and all kinds of things. I decided to make the exhaust stacks look special and put wraps of greenstuff around them; these will be some kind of flesh which will have exhaust soot on them. To finish off I add some balls of greenstuff which will be boils etc and greenstuffed the spare nurgle banners I had from my Plaguebearers, on to the Soul Grinder.
With some basic greenstuff skills used on the Soul Grinder, I decided to go for broke and work on the Heralds. I spent some time yesterday looking at photos of Tzeentch Heralds on the interwebs. Most of them had some kind of robe, bracelets and Tzeentch symbols and spell books.
I used my basic greenstuff skills to make bracelets on the models (these I'll paint silver) and attached a book and cloak onto one along with some base detail. On another I added a little Imp which I had spare from the CSM Sorcerer and also a few bracelets.
The feathers and spikes I tried to wet blend. The spikes have turned out ok, but I could redo them again. The feathers I made the mistake of washing and using too much water on my brush for wet blending. But it is not all bad; I can use the base mix of blue and green for a nice colour and then add some red and orange and blue. I may add some greenstuff scrolls or robes to the 'chicken' Herald.

Interesting GS work Mercer. Like the blending on the spikes of the Tzeench guy. Not sure it shows up all that well on the feathers though. Might just be my eyes though, no glasses today.

The feathers need doing again. I'll use more colours such as red and orange and also blue and try and blend them together.
I think with the pink Heralds I am going to do a lighter shade of pink over the existing, so will layer it. That should add more colour and depth. If it works well I'll do it with the blue one too.
Also, I may add a tail too.
I think doing the blending trick from pink to blue will do nicely. I think I'll just try doing it on the hands and take it from there.

I've been making a lot of progress with my Daemons lately. Two Heralds are done and I've started working on the other two Heralds and the Soul Grinder. I was really stuck on these two. I had painted them my normal method (base coat, wash and layer with base coat) and they looked really bland. After looking on Google at Tzeentch Heralds, I raided my bitz box and put my greenstuff skills to the test. I add bracelets to both of them to give some more detail along with a loin cloth and one Herald has a spell book. I attempted wet blending on the tentacles to give more colour and managed to wet blend the feathers on the one with the multiple heads. I then added another lay which was 50/50 mix of ceramite white and pink horror. In the future I will add white highlights or a 80/20 mix of white and pink. This is my wip Soul Grinder. Seems I was on a bender with greenstuff on the Heralds, I decided to 'destroy' my Soul Grinder. Lots of greenstuff and mashing with a screw driver and the Grinder is nurgle'd up. You cannot see the rear, but I added greenstuff around the exhaust pipes which I will make look like flesh mounds or something. I also added nurgle icons with greenstuff. You will see in the picture below I have made a little more progress and painted the vehicle part boltgun metal and done the trim gold. In time I will wash the entire model with devlan mud and then add Forge World rust weathering powder along with soot and dry mud powders. This is my almost finished Plaguebearer. I added another layer of camo green and bleached bone; both really brought out the shadows. I touched up all the other colours too. Lastly I added Forge World rust weathering poweder to the blade, at first I thought I had made a mess off it, as I put a bit of water with it, which made the powder go lumpy. It has dried out and now doesn't look too bad at all. As I am STILL waiting for Maelstrom to get in gear and send me stuff I ordered two and a half weeks ago, I can spend time finishing the Plaguebearers, Soul Grinder and remaining Heralds. Going as Maelstrom's rate of delivery I can probably get the Screamers done too!

Been hard at it at the weekend and thundering through these Daemons. I've now got Plaguebearers to finish and Screamers; then what models I have will be done.
I am STILL waiting on a box of Plagues and Soul Grinder from Maelstrom; I rang them this morning and they said G.W are messing them about and there has been delays due to warehouse move; I smell bs and it is more like because of their warehouse move. My stuff will be sent next week, which is a full month since ordering! Utter rubbish!
Bit late posting these pictures as I was ill yesterday - damn IBS!
First of these (not so) charming fellows is my counts as The Masque. I got a awesome deal on Chaos Spawn, so thought I could make a Masque like model. Originally I was going to make a Nurgle model and use the Masque rules, but the Masque wannabe does add some colour.
This guy just goes the name of 'the chicken-man'. He loves to throw mcchicken nuggets at people, he's also finger lickin' good
This is the same Plaguebearer I took a shot off the other night, just got natural light in. I did the blade using F.W rust weathering powder, but I put it on wet. The powder went all sludge like, but the end result is still the same.
The Nurgle Soul Grinder I've spent a massive amount of time on. I've put plenty of greenstuff on it; it's all on the limbs and on the rear, I've even built up the exhaust stacks with greenstuff. The model has three F.W powders on it; dry mud, rust and soot.
I can't wait to get more Grinders, as I really enjoyed this one. Looking to do more conversion work on them. Automatically Appended Next Post: GiraffeX wrote:These are all looking excellent. The finished Plague Bearer is spot on looks perfect, cant wait to see the Grinder finished to that standard.
Cheers, dude . Just finished the Grinder, as you can see above

That's an awesome soul grinder. I think I prefer it to the blob on legs that is the forge World nurgle soul grinder as yours is less fat and looks more deathly.

Finished these bay boys last night. Seven down five to go. Just waiting for magnets so I can start on the rest.
My aim is to get the others done over the weekend and also finish off the already painted Plaguebearers. If I have time, I'll add guitar wire and greenstuff to the WIP Soul Grinder. That shouldn't take too long. Automatically Appended Next Post: Martok wrote:That Soul Grinder looks really gnarly! Good stuff!!
Thanks, dude. It is still very WIP at the moment. Got to add loads more greenstuff, guitar wire and Nurglings!

Thanks, man. As above, still very WIP. I am not keen on everything being fat for Nurgle. When I think disease I think skinny, bones, poor skin, sores etc. Only time I think fat is a bloated corpse which has been in the water.
