If the models released with this issue of WD were people...

They'd be old enough to vote.

And the ones released with this one...

Are old enough to drink.

Gunna have to dig out the issues now. 205 was during the red era, which was so very, very red. Unless you were a base, then you were green, so very, very green.... Wasn't 205 the issue with a load of different wolves tanks against nids in different piles of rock?

Drinking and voting age are different in India? I had no idea.

Anyway, GW still sell models that came out in the 80's...

Sorry I'm a yank so my milestones are 18 to vote, 21 to drink. Your mileage may vary.

In India it's 25 to drink, not sure about voting.

20 for both in Japan.

In the UK, drinking and voting become legal at the same age (18). Kind of explains a lot really...
This was my first WD that I bought as a 12-year-old. Scary to think that I have been reading that magazine on-and-off for three-quarters of my life.

So long as we're doing it, this issue of WD is now old enough to go to the corner shop and buy my a beer in India.

Provided we're not in a dry state which there is a growing number of.

It may be the first one I bought, if not certainly one of the first.

And this issue can get me a beer in Japan.

IIRC it's the one with all the cool IG armies from an era when GW didn't show too many conversions.

A large portion of my 40K army consists of models designed and sold from 1993-1997. So, 20+ years old. And those are considered "new" by plenty of the grognards who are older than I.

Even better is the expression people have when you mention some of your models are older than you.......

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

No chance of that for me. The oldest I have are the Galactic Knights/Star Fleet Wars models that were first made in the late 70s (and of course mine are recently produced).

Lots of obvious Star Wars and Star trek rip offs but such fun models.

My oldest miniatures are some horses designed in 1967.

My oldest designed GW models have 1993 as their copyright year. I bought them new last year, they're still being made.

EDIT: We Swedes also get to drink and vote at 18, though it seems people really start drinking at 12 and voting at 25...

I have Ral Partha & Citadel Model Miniatures so old they came over on the Ark.

The golden years of collecting for Me were between 1989 - 1995.

There used to be a panel van bitz wagon that would travel around dispensing bitz for sale.

I recall reading somewhere the Games Workshop Bitz Wagon got stolen but was returned.

Should have saved all My 1990's White Dwarf Magazines.

That was the time period where I'd go to Friendly Local game stores in order to get a copy of White Dwarf.

Yes and no. They are made of tin, as far as I can tell. Or maybe lead. I have six of them, bought at a flea market a few years ago. Four are french napoleonic-era soldiers, one is a french officer, and one is an egyptian archer for some reason. They are painted, though not by me. Again, the paint is probably lead.

Awesome. You really need to work them into an army! Counts as Empire Handgunners...

They're about the same scale, or maybe slightly smaller. Empire hand gunners is a good idea, though...

I’veonly ever bought one issue of WD actually. I *think* its 150 - it had a card reference for 5E (I think) 40K - the reason I bought it. It also has the “Movie Marines” article in it and an article on the White Dwarf himself. Grimboral is his name, if I reacall correctly. Also had thumbnails of all the cover issues from 1-150.

The magazine I collected was Dragon (& Dungeon). I remember the days when Dragon used to review GW’s games even, and gave them pretty good marks to boot.

Ugh. I have every one of the ones so far but the Issue 18 one, and maybe the 157 issue shown.

God, feel old, though to be honest it helps that I'm 35, but have been collecting GW figures since I was 12. My first games were Heroquest, Battlemasters, and Advanced Space Crusade (technically mine is Tyranid Attack which was different rules but shared all models and boards), all bought fresh from the store.

I totally remember when Attack Bikes, Vypers, and Falcons came out in White Dwarf.

216 with the Falcon is the first WD on my shelf, but I’d been playing for a while before that. For being stupidly old, I still love that tank.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Think my first WD was 47... Alhough only started collecting in earnet in he early / mid 100s (I think) . Will have to find my stash of mags now (to most folks a stash of mags would be of very different, scantily clad models...)

On the drinking topic - whilst the UK age of purchasing alcoholic drinks is indeed 18, it is actually legal for a child aged five or older to drink alcohol at home or on other private premises... A child of five years old can legally get bladdered in the UK !!!

An adult (i.e. over 18) is also allowed to buy a child over 16, beer, wine or cider, if they are eating a table meal together in licensed premises...

My first WD was #79.

Started "collecting it" with 90 or 91, though.

Through the "Harlequins" releases for RT, through to 127 with the revamp of the eldar in and on and on and on. Of those early issues, I only have 127 left. It has Jes Goodwin's autograph on it.

That Falcon issue featured the "reworked" datafax for 2nd ed with a picture of the actual new model on it (the codex DID have one for the falcon, but like the Vyper, it didn't have a model, so they had artwork instead.)
When they released the Fire Prism, it was THE new codex vehicle (it wasn't in the codex to start with).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Love these "I'm OOOOOLD!" Threads...because I am there. I bought that very first set of D&D mini's in the box...came with a rip off of Lord of the rings basicalle (several hobb...err halflings, a dwarf, elf, wizard, 2 humans, etc etc) My friend still has like 4 of them. Talk about lumps of lead! But we used the snot out of them! I can't even remember when they came out, but I got them in the early 80's...jr High School group.
My Eldar army is definately 90's models almost exclusively (although the same Jain Zar is still sold I think...huge chunk of lead and talk about hair...)

Also...nice beard Kyoto...mine isn't as white or fluffy sadly...How do you get it to look so cottony...

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.
