How do?

So this is something that came up during a FB chat. Gist is local manager was asking which historical era he should try, and included Trafalgar.

I recommended that, as I utterly adore the age of sail. Always have. It’s always just seemed an elegant form of warfare in terms of tactics.

I also mentioned Man ‘O’ War, an old and dusty, sadly forgotten GW game of yore. It also happens, as the title might hint, the one game that nobody has ever, ever beaten me at.

Sure, this was the mid 90’s when I was just a snivelling lirrul Grot playing against his mates. So I make no claim to being the world champion at all. But I was very, very good at it. Give me an Empire fleet, and I’ll have the tools to give you a really harsh time on the high seas. I just seemed to have a knack for the required strategy and tactics my friends at the time lacked.

I knew when to Broadside. I knew when to rely on oars over sail (particularly useful for catching faster fleets flat footed), I knew when to ram and when to board. It was like a second nature.

Heck, I remember my first demo game (GW Maidstone). Opponent had a Dark Elf Fleet, including the normally feared Black Ark of Naggaroth. Shame my War Galleys rammed it good and hard and sunk it - with half his fleet still inside. My Wolfships then manage to wreck the command towers of the handful of unleashed beasties, and the game was mine. The Greatship just sort of looked on and politely applauded.

And yes. I am very proud of that fact. But.....but given it’s relatively short life, and my exceptionally limited pool of opponents, whilst a cool brag, it’s hardly a convincing one.

But have you ever tried a system and never tasted defeat? Not even as an apperetif?

Hah, no I don't think so! As a player, I tend to get beat just as much as I do the beating, depending on the system. I loved Battlefleet gothic, but rarely ever won a game.

I think the only games I would be undefeated in would be games I only played once, and happened to win that one time that I played them. Anything I played a substantial number of games threw up some losses for me eventually (and usually, not that eventually).

I think Hordes is the game where my ratio was the best, and the only game where I actually won a tournament despite years of playing.

Not exactly what you're asking, but I bought the Ork Aeronautica Flyboyz Dice when they were released and for a few weeks they always rolled exactly what I wanted (irregardless of the game system)! I stopped using them for a while (to stop my gaming group from lynching me) and now they roll normally.

I'm still alive; SOoo... I guess I'm undefeated in the game of life vs. death???

Otherwise, no.

I have games where my win percentage is really high, but nothing where I'm 100% undefeated.

Warmaster. My high elves were undefeated. Even 2000 pts vs 3000 pts didn't do much to stop the elves. And I don't think my strategies were particularly clever. Utilize the LD10 general, silver helms, dragon and high elf shooting to break the enemy.

After playing more I had like half a decade stop. Played game against daemons that were completely new foe for me. Despite all my infanry refusing to move an inch massacred the daemons.

I'm convinced at least originally warmaster high elves might be one of the most busted armies in any GW game ever. Luckily warmaster ancient fixed lots of issues original warmaster had. That's fun variant.

You......you betrayed your dice?

Right. For that, I hope Nurgle gobs in your pint, Slaanesh interferes with your cornflakes, and Tzeentch sorts your next costume change.

No, there’s no Khorne curse, because he’s a rubbish god devoid of subtlety and thus amusing comedy curses.

My dice are too fickle for that to ever happen to me.

That being said I have only ever played one game of Warhammer: Underworlds and I won...so I guess that game if we are counting anything. I will now retire undefeated.

I lost two games in 40k 6th edition, playing quite regularly.

To be honest, I abused the hell out of the Guard codex. All the movement shenanigans. Then... they removed Captain Al and the tuck and sundry of silly things he could do.

7th edition, I might have won 2 games with Imperial Guard. Maybe.

The Other Side by Wyrd I'm undefeated in. Just happened that I lucked into a very strong army just by taking what models I liked, others didn't, and I had some great luck in the 6-7 games I played before I started playing other games again. Nothing to do with my own skill, especially because I didn't use much skill, just a new game for everyone where I lucked into something I could use to success

Well playing Betrayal at the House on the Hill, I've killed everybody when I'm the traitor and been a successful survivor when NOT the traitor... But as far as straight up wargames, nah I lose a lot early on as I tend to go for 'hard to master' stuff first. Learn from those mistakes and get better. I'm really good at X-wing these days but even then I lose ever now and then. Not to mention the top meta list will still lose if the dice gods don't like you.

Oooh, weelll.......

Funnily enough the closest I ever came to undefeated was Man `o` War as well ( a game I personally rank as number 2 on favourite GW games list after Blood Bowl ) which while not a game for everyone, was always fun and pretty wacky on times.

My trusty fleet of Pirorcs (like orcs but with eyepatches and west country accents) were the terror of empire, high elf and dwarf fleets everywhere. Hulks did most of the work, 9 driller killers did....well, mostly they killed themselves but every now and again would absolutely demolish anything in their path.

Why did I say almost?

The infamous Capn Blacksquig and his Green Anne`s Revenge ( I liked this name, was pretty proud of coming up with it until I saw one in a white dwarf with the same name gah!) had but one weakness. But it was a biggy.

Chaos Dwarfs. Bleedin Chaos dwarfs and their non orcy "sitting behind an island half a table away lobbing HUUUGE blast markers everywhere tactics invariably blowing away my driller killers worky bits and immobilising them EVERY SODDIN TIME.

Just couldnt beat them. In the end, my Orcs learnt a few thing from the stunties. Chaos Dwarfs? don`t exist mate. and blanked them from their collective memories.

I have lost Games of Axis and Allies. But I have not ever, ever, been defeated when playing the Soviets in either original A&A or AA50 or AA50R. Somehow, kicking the Axis in their Asses just comes naturally to me when I start getting into the vodka kind of mindset.

It's gotten ridiculous actually, where People in our Gaming Club would challenge me to play the Soviet and survive this or that German Opening move. The most veteran AA player, the guy who taught me the game once upon a time, flat out refuses to participate in a Game - unless I promise not to play the Soviet.

Some People talk about bids of varying magnitude. Just two weekends ago I met two new players, who insisted there be a bid for the axis. I accepted 3 ICP for the Allies and they got the Axis. I placed an Infantry in Egypt and proceeded to play the game. They didnt understand what was happening.

The Secret is _not_ to build Infantry. But to build Tanks. <3

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!

Never undefeated, but plenty of games where I have never had a win. I’m just a bad strategist and often kick myself about 30 seconds after my turn ends.

It never ends well

Same here. I played dwarfs in 7th edition whfb.
Every week I played for a year excluding holidays.
After roughly 45 games I never even came close to winning.
I listened to vet players advice but I just lost every game.

The only game in which I am undefeated is Mordheim.
Being a noob at the time I didn’t realize how broken Skaven were.
In early games in our group my warband was unstoppable.
Once things progressed I eventually quit playing.
They really were close to being an automatic win list.

Undefeated? No. But after practicing with some Infinity for a couple of months, I went on to actually shock an entire community of Infinity players that grouped monthly from across the State because I just repeatedly got lucky and had a firm grasp of how to tactically employ different units (thanks, Marine Corps School of Infantry!). I placed top three repeatedly in tournaments and leagues.

Also, for a long time I have been "the guy" for Necromunda and 40k games, because I'm all about sportsmanship and having a good fun game and trying to do new things. I get people enthusiastic and actually go out of my way to help people out- I don't know all the answers and best advice, but I know who to ask and where to point someone.

I've never been undefeated, but I tend to keep a positive win rate in 40k through the editions.

It's really hard if you play a lot to keep a 100% win rate so kudos!

No chance. Infact I've lost more as I get older
Probably because Im not as intense as I once was and tend to play for fun much more.

Or Im going senile.

I'm undefeated in Warhammer Fantasy and in Anima Tabletop games. However, I have only ever played one game of each. Both were medium sized demo games, but I won, just never got around to playing another round.

I seem to be, for some unfathomable reason, unbeaten in Kill Team.

Now, granted the people I play aerny cut throat competitive and more for fun, we still have a blast. Highlights include:
- Grot Swan diving off a 3 story high building to deal a mortal wound to a Reiver below
- my Reiver sargeant bring christened "Shouty Spooky Slicey Boi" after going on a slight rampage and taking out 6 genestealer cultists, 2 genestealers without being hurt.
- and lastly my friend retiring his Frag cannon deathwatch trooper after dropping 6 orks in a single shot with it.

I had an undefeated streak with 8E Dark Elves, but I don't think it was entirely (or even mostly) because of my skill at Warhammer...

Why can't it be both?!?

All kidding aside, yeah, as I get older I care less about winning and more about having fun playing the game.

It is hard enough to find the time to get a game in and then, once you have the time, finding an opponent for the game you want to play!
