Meta jokes, pop culture references, slapstick and body humour? It’s Futurama. Hope it’s good until it gets cancelled (again).

The hell naw, not again...

This is the third? uncancelling, yes? If they pull of a good-ish show again i'd be surprised, nobody bats 4/4 in this business.

I’m quite willing to give it a shot. Got the original creators back, and time off means they’ve had a chance to build up a reservoir of ideas rather than constantly running the well like Simpsons.

The show was bad enough after the first uncancelling. Then the DTV movies were awful. The characters no longer mean anything to me. And far too many people I thought had taste recommended later Simpsons seasons as “good again” when they were lukewarm-at-best garbage.

Just stop.

I used to think that way, and then I learned how unreliable TV writing jobs are, and at this point, if keeping a mediocre show on the air keeps people working, I'm fine with it.

Yeah, gotta go with the naysayer crowd. The new season after they came back last time was meh at best and I thought the series finale was as good as it was going to get, so removing that and trying to start over again just makes the blatant attempt at milking a long expired cash cow even worse.

If you want people to get more writing jobs, could they at least do it with new shows/IP rather than constantly resurrecting old ones and driving them into the ground?

I’m happy for them to get more money. Hopefully the strike works and writers will get better pay and residuals from streaming. I just can’t sit through any more bad comedies.

Oh, I don't watch stuff I don't like. I just understand why creators and producers keep shows going past their creative primes: keep their people employed.

I think this is more The Netflix Effect than just wanting to keep people employed. Given that pretty much any halfway decent series gets cancelled after two or three episodes have aired, it is easier to go with a ready made package such as Futurama than create anything new.
