Listening to the radio this morning. They were talking about a reboot of the horror movie Christine, based on the Steven King book.
I'm really torn on this, and think there is A LOT of room for it to suck hard. That being said I have some thoughts:
This movie will be one of three things: set in 1978 like the original, set in modern era with vintage 1958 Plymouth Fury, or modern era with a 20 year old muscle car.
I see the last option as the easiest to do. However, if they go that route, Christine only played 20+ year old rock music. The thought of a demonic 2005 Dodge Charger that only plays Nirvana and Limp Bisquit is either really good, or really, really BAD.

She should be one of those hideous Cube cars. Or a Hummer. And she only plays Bloodhound Gang. Automatically Appended Next Post: No wait!
A late 90’s Acura Integra with the spoiler that only communicates via Eurodance. And she needs hydraulics for the obligatory viral dance scene where she busts a move to a second-tier Aqua song.

So it's definitely going to be bad, the question is will it be self-aware bad or tryhard bad?

If it were me, she would have to team up with Uncle Otto’s Truck to take down an eviler tanker truck full of cocaine with a green goblin mask on the grill.
But the green goblin mask is just a huge sculpture of Willem Decor’s face screaming “Avenge me!”

Damn, you guys are brutal with the concept of this reboot, LOL
Seriously though, I think there is an 80% suck chance.
If they took this seriously, what are the chances of it being decent or better?

The problem with a Christine reboot, is that the concept of an (evil) self controlled car that cause mayhem hasn't exactly aged well over the last 5 or so years. We've had autonomously driving cars for a little bit now and look how many feth ups they've had. Car gone rogue is just not a scary thing any more.
People aren't going to be biting their nails when they see someone about to get crushed to death by Christine, when little Timmy down the road from them got run over by a wayward Cybertruck a week before.
There's little chance of a reboot being successful. But if they play it self-aware bad rather then try-hard bad or (even worse) obliviously-bad then it might be salvagable.

What is the difference between a remake and a reboot?

I'd say a remake (basically telling the same story) will change a lot more than a reboot (taking the name/some of the characters and running with those)

To me, a remake feels like a director said, “I can tell this story again in a different way to add some new meaning” while a reboot feels like a studio said, “we need to refresh this IP with younger, cheaper talent.”

Obviously this is murky but I guess you remake a story but you reboot a franchise.
