Been meaning to start off this thread for a while now, in fact back when I first stripped them.
Anyway as they are still less than 50% done I figured it might not be too late to start up the WIP thread for them. Simply as a way to speed my painting up in order to try to be ready in time for the new codex.

Currently only the Canoness and a handful of SoB are finished, but I'm close to having a full squad repainted to match the new scheme.

The original way I did the white was to prime them white. However at the moment I'm just waiting for decent weather in order to reprime them black instead; Giving me more control over the shading of the armour to add in a little more detail than simply washing the white down then building it back up again. At least in my opinion it seems an easier way to paint white.

Below is the current progress of the army overall.

About half of the painted squad are completed, some need highlighting still others metallics. Trying to get every model to at least the standard of the Canoness above.

As for the vehicles only the Rhino on the far right is completed. Not shown is the second Exorcist which is still unbuilt. I got the idea to use some plates from Scibor instead of the rhino doors in order to continue the ornate look of the Exorcists along the sides rather than have it broken up with the normal Immolator doors.

Though work on the Exorcist will start a little later in order not to have too many half finished models in the army.

Currently I've been working on and off on this Canoness model over the week to be the Sister Superior of the Celestian retinue.

Mostly the model is done, however it needs the lettering on the book finished, highlighting, the metallics and lenses.

The first picture is actually a conversion based on the Ashlynn D'elyse model from Warmachine. Basically I filed of the backpack that came molded on it, put the canoness one to replace it, replaced the pistol with an old 2ed plasma pistol and sculpted on the sleves and fleur de lis on the shoulder.

Here's a pic of the normal model.

Thanks, you have some pretty cool stuff too.

Managed to prime all the remaining SoB today and basically finish off that one I've been working on for a while.

So far 9 SoB are completed, a mix of the Canoness, a celestian or two and the normal squad, and a Rhino.
Still left are 18 SoB, Rhino, 2 Exorcists and an Immolator.

Currently I'm up to finishing this one.

The rest are still at the basecoating stage, meaning the pictures might show more progress in between each one. The aim is to at least get three done a week.

I just have a white shelf and use the macro feature of my camera. Problem with white is how it seems to adjust to it, so I put those trees in the background to break it up a little. Then I take the photos with the camera focusing on the trees instead of the models (can be tricky as it will usually try to put them in focus and make the model blurry), basically I only do this for white which I'm still figuring out the trick to. I also usually leave the flash to auto adjust and it just works, but could be clearer.

I also pile up some books to give the camera a level surface to sit on to keep it steady and I don't use the zoom either. Then just crop out the background and upload the pic.

This tutorial by Vent will probably help a little more though.

Finished up that one SoB, might need a few touch ups here and there from what I've seen in the pictures.

Face looks a bit off to me in this one, but some of them just seem to be sculpted that way. Kind of makes me look forward to the new ones when they come out.

Just one more to go now until I've managed to finish a squad in the new scheme.

See what you mean with the face and I appreciate it. I'm painting my friend's up for him and I appreciate full well that faces are hit and miss depending on which sister model is being painted. After painting about 80 of the bints I know that well enough!

Hey your stuff looks great! But I think you should paint your weapons a different brighter color like red.

There isn't enough contrast between the warrior, the weapon, and the bases.

Just an opinion but keep it up love the armor! It would just pop more with red bolters (or a nice purple) which both compliment white and teal very well.

Thanks guys.

Yeh I was thinking they kind of blend in a little too much, though want to try to stay to the colours I'm using. Perhaps I could put script on all of them like the above Celestian's bolter to try to break it up a little more.

Finished another today, and I would now have a full squad done in the new scheme, but just noticed that I needed a bolter rather than this flamer.

Finally finished enough to have a complete squad painted. Though will go back to the others I had done to improve them to match the last couple more.

Also was lucky enough to get some more SoB from a friend who didn't want the few they had, so brought them for $30. So Immolator and 3 more SoB to add to the to do list.

Edit:
As I had basically finished most of the bolter SoB yesterday I was able to finish one of the Celestians.

Didn't seem to come out too well in the picture, but on the forehead of the helmet I painted a Fleur De Lys in the highlight colour. Probably have to redo it in something like burnished gold to make it more noticeable.

Been a little busy and unable to update or work on the army as much as I would have liked, but just completed the first exorcist.

Also started constructing the second which actually uses the proper exorcist model, not sure how to build the planned third one yet as I wanted all of them to be unique to match the background story for the Exorcist in which they're supposed to all be unique works of art. Perhaps the forgeworld turret or scratch built organ. Then again depending on the new rules I might just swap the army from being mech to going horde.

Hey, nice use of the Whirlwind kit!!!

Where did you get the SoB icons, by the way? From an Immolator kit, I guess?

I love the sister with the grenade pin in her mouth, that model is great!
A bit stupid if you field a lot of them, but nice on his (her) own!

I prime everything black. I just find it to be an easier way to paint white then priming white, washing it down then building back up again.

Though my only real choices around here are black or white, if I had the chance I'd give grey a try.

Just finished the Celestian squad, although I had already finished the first squad half of them were done before I started using that more ethereal look so I'll go back and touch them up first.

I'm liking the look of the gold on this last one a little more so will continue to use it through the rest of the army. Currently I'm still building the second Exorcist though I'm deciding between getting resin plates for the sides or simply putting plasticard on the sides and painting murals instead. Either way the doors are going to be replaced as they don't work with my idea of how the Exorcist should look and just break up the decorations on the sides. I'm also considering converting up a living saint to represent the order's first canoness, fleshing out the background a little more as well perhaps posting it up later. Anyway I've already decided on using a Menoth Harbringer for the base of the model, perhaps just the legs.

The idea is to either add more detail to it with green stuff, add one of the seraphim models (likely one of the two below), the old Brettonian Repanse De Lyonesse or just using St. Celestine.

With weapon swaps of course.

Repanse De Lyonesse

The last detail is that I want it to have wings and as I like to use the army in the local GW from time to time it leaves me with the option of some of the GW ones (nicely meeting 80% gw product in the model).
Probably these ones as although the plastic ones would be easier I like the look of these better.

Either way I'd rather give the living saint some fancy banner than just leave the simple dove in hand the St. Celestine model has.

Have you considered some of the DE Scourges wings?

They look great, and perhaps more in scale with the model?

That's a good idea actually, perhaps I could use them on the seraphim as well. I could just take the wings off the swooping hawks I have and go with a less organic ornate approach as well, not like I'm ever going to use them again anyway. Time to throw it together in paint and see how it is I guess.

Edit: Finished concept picture, will need to greenstuff some sleeves and cutting will likely be a nightmare but I kind of like it.

Banner position may be annoying with the wings, but cutting the arm off and repositioning it fixes it easy. Looks like a design is sculpted on the flag so I'll just file it off and paint on the order's symbol.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Didn't take as long as I thought it would take to update the cloaks on the older painted models to match up with the current ethereal look the more recent ones have had meaning the first squad is finished now.

Haven't worked on them for a bit due to uni getting in the way and just not feeling like painting, though managed to get one finished this week so far.

Pretty much the same amount is left, though due to the changes in the new codex I may just combine some left over SoB I have laying around with the Celestians and make sort of a "veteran" squad. As for the Living saint, I've decided to leave it for now as it just feels shoehorned into the army. Perhaps later on for more of a display piece.
