Yet another SoB finished, though experimented around with a new skin tone and hair colour (bright blond), they seem to have blended in a bit too well with the white of the armour.

Managed to do this one in about 3 hours today, a bit faster than the others. Probably because of the helmet though.

Still some nice sisters, besides that the latest does look like she's more of a stone statue. Also, I can't help but wonder if they look a little too ghost-like?

Yeh they seemed to be getting a little too ghost like, though they're a bit less in person.

Tried doing the eyes a little differently than normal with this one and highlighted black hair with blue for a change.

For the eyes I generally go with a black line then white dot in the corner, but with this I was experimenting with the iris. It's roughly the same, but before the white dot I put snot green, then very carefully added in goblin green on the base of it, then added the white dot as normal. Then after finishing the face added badab black to the eye for shading followed by skull white at the very bottom of the white section of the eye. Takes way longer than normal, but I'm not sure of it myself as while it's there the effect leaves it looking normal at a distance and is really only visible up close. May also keep the skin tone a little darker like this one as they were progressively getting more brighter until the last helmetless one which may have well been albino.

Hey, found this from your post about the eyes. I think the new method is an improvement, and the added color definitely helps. I think it would look a bit better if you tried to get more white at the outside corners of the eyes though, as at the moment it's got a bit of a weird effect going on, like you're looking at a photo negative of an eye, with the 'pupil' area white and the rest black. Actually, I'm thinking that if you start with black like normal, then lay down a layer of white over that, with the black still at the edges, then a green iris, black pupil, and tiny white dot, you'd be golden. It looks like you've already got the steps down, anyway. Similar to your lenses, which definitely look good.

The blue highlighting on the hair looks good too. Subtle, but definitely noticeable.

I've gotta say I like your idea for the canoness/saint too, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how that pans out. Interesting that you're planning on using the harbinger model too, as I had the same idea a while back I've been working on it off and on for a while, and I've gotta say that working with a bunch of all-metal models is really a pain, but I think it'll pay off with some really cool minis. At the very least, it might be worth picking each others' brains for inspiration.

And @Lord Kaesar II- nice quotes

Picture may be a little smaller than normal, but that's cause I backed off on the zoom a touch to try and keep it clear.
Kept messing up the eyes a little, not so much wrecking them as I didn't like it, though it meant the skin had to be redone a few times leaving it with an interesting tone compared to the others. Kind of worked out alright there.

Not really sure of how the hair and eyes came out on this one, I found the technique for highlighting black hair with brown at the same time as the blue and wanted to try them both out. Kind of nice the difference it makes though if I had to do it again I'd probably go for graveyard earth or some other dark brown instead of some ancient bestial brown I had laying around.

Edit: Just noticed I didn't do the writing on the bolter on this one, but there's a mix of some with and some without anyway so I'll just leave it like that. Probably need to do more of the "veterans" with the gold on their armour. As for my order they start with the basic armour and make it more ornate as they go along. Leaves room for the Daughters of the Flame into SoB conversions I'd like to do at some point, just no idea when.

Every army seems to need one or a squad of them.

To tell the difference it's covered in more prayers (for luck) than the other SoB and has a lot less weathering as it is meant to be as if it had just entered the battle rather than involved in a prolonged conflict like the others. Sort of seemed like a good idea to me to kind of spread them throughout units rather than have them entirely uniform. The Aquilla on the thigh began its life as some botched writing though, sort of looked like the right shape to me so added the "tail", "head" and worked up the "wings" a little, it seems to have worked.

I need to work on painting the Fleur de Lys though as it doesn't look like it came out quite right to me.

Indeed, a few seem to be using them for the death cult assassins, but I kind of think they'd make better SoB with a little work.

Just arms, guns really and sculpting the sleeves which isn't all that hard. Shoulders would probably be the hard part unless I go without the pads for them and go with the full sleeves.

I could definitely see them being good for CC charging Celestian models.

Finally found some time to paint. Not sure why I actually painted this one as I'm not going to be using Stormbolters.

I just grabbed whatever from the small primed, but unpainted squad of 6 sitting on the display shelf next to the rest. Didn't notice the weapon until after the base coats were all done.

Then had forgotten that the helmet lenses were green now instead of turquoise as the lens.
Ah well something to help them all seem somewhat unique even with the duplicate sculpts everywhere.

Finally got to do some more OSL, one of the techniques I enjoy most, with this one. Another good thing was looking over the SoB I had laying around and realising that since Celestians are now pretty worthless in the new codex the spare few I had laying around leaves me with exactly enough for another squad, although one with only stormbolters. But, then again the army is still flamer heavy anyway. Regardless they'll likely be replaced for meltas first.

It also means this is actually the superior for the new squad and that I'm already three models into it now. So I'll try to get a decent group shot of the now finished squad, give it a name and chuck it here somewhere.

Looking good, especially that OSL. What technique do you use for it?

The angle's kinda hard to tell so this might not be the case, but if the light from the pistol is hitting the backpack, would it not also hit the cloth from the tabard/skirt thing behind her leg?

Sort of does at one side, might have forgotten the back or thought it seemed blocked by the body of the pistol.
I guess I'll fix it up a little and put it up with the squad later.

For the OSL I tried something different to what I usually do. I painted the pistol and the rest as normal than base coated the coil black, then followed with dark angels green. When it dried I drybrushed snot green over the coil and the areas it looked like it would hit. Then built up with goblin then scorpion green in the same manner but each closer to the source. The edge around the coil was then highlighted scorpion green. Finally a light drybrush of white over the coil to make it slightly brighter than the area around.

Usually though I do OSL with blue and it seems to come out easier.

Got a picture of the now finished squad Defaeco (latin for cleanse/purify/purge) Secondus together, don't really notice the difference between them until they're together like this so I like to get group shots from time to time.

Also managed to fix up the OSL on the superior from yesterday, was worried about going over board but it seems fine.

I also have some scouts laying around, got a box of them for about $2 new on sprue from some yard sale. May have to convert and paint them up as cultists at some point to make a more interesting group shot.

Oooh, there we go. Looking good, the blending on that OSL is very smooth.

It occurs to me though...would "Defaeco" be in the same vein as "defecate?"

Thanks.

Perhaps I should just go with Secondus or some default name then to avoid that simularity.

There, pretty as a picture.

Hey, what's the community good for if not feedback on names we might miss references in. They could always be a squad on loan from the Order of the Bean Burrito I guess

Unfortunately only 5 (3 of those the dreaded grenade ones if I remember correctly D: ) to go now and I seem to have gotten back to being able to do roughly one a day; half the day before and the rest the day I update this. Don't really like the look of the face on this one straight on, though could also just be the sculpt. Like the other few it has a good side and a bad disfigured side.

So being a somewhat boring Boxing Day and having this being the only expected gap until next year me and some friends decided to try playing some games. As it didn't pan out all that well (sheer stupidity at times ) we instead did a speed challenge, the aim was to see if I could paint a full model in the time of one game of League of Legends. A simple 3v3 expected to take no longer than 30 mins at the most.

Model ended up taking 30 mins the game my friend was in took 40ish.

Some things I noticed with speeding through it is that the helmet lenses seem a little off.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh and I finally have a decent idea for the comand squad. Simply enough they are to be three standard sisters, a hospitalier and a dialogus conversion based on this model.

Some greenstuff work, a Laud Hailer instead of the tip of the spear and should be good. Maybe swap out the head for one of the Immolator ones if I have any around, but I don't think it'll be needed. That cape would probably be best if removed though. Could even cheat and greenstuff it to the front rather than greenstuff it from scratch. Though it'd look as good as the effort needed.

Trouble is one of the SoB is missing a backpack somehow, but I was going to make them stand out a little more anyway by using these.

They may be chaos, yet they look like they'd fit the SoB just the same with the aquila look and the bones I also only need the 4 as the hospitalier looks to not have a backpack to begin with. Alternatively I could mess around with the chirugeon pack there to remove it's chaos look, but not too sure on that idea it may be best going into the bits box for a while instead. The other option being it leaves me with 3 normal SoB packs so I could use one of those if I really wanted it to have a pack, perhaps even get a banner on it like the SM sergeant ones. Nothing but brainstorming at the moment though for the hospitalier.

Interesting thought on the backpacks. The overall shape is pretty much dead-on, especially if you clip off the bottom vents. Very cool. Have you seen the maxmini gothic backpacks? Might be another option, not sure how shipping would be to your part of the world.

I got the max mini back packs a while back and they are really too big for sisters unfortunately, the one on the left with the single exhaust is the only one i'd recommend as it fits fine and i used it on a couple of superiors no probs. You may find it sold separately on ebay or a bits site somewhere but they're not mega bucks if you really want them.

Shame they're oversized some of them look nice. Clipping off the bottom vents hadn't actually occurred to me for some reason and they'd look so much better without them.

Hopefully they won't be too big either as they're just the pack for this guy.

Hmm. I'd bet they'd be okay, as the basic body looks very very similar to the standard sisters pack. I think the added "wings" on it, even if they do stick out a lot, would be very appropriate as an identifier on command models. I'm very interested to see how it turns out, anyway. I'm not really planning on running any celestians at the moment, but if I end up doing so in the future the Chaos packs will definitely be on my list. I'm pretty sure I'm missing 5 or so packs among the army. I think I'm missing 5 or so Seraphim packs too, but I've got a different solution in mind for them.

Oh, and on the Dialogus conversion-not a fan of blow-up dolls, eh? I think an immolator-head would look kind of weird on her. The helmeted one wouldn't really match the armor that well, and the unhelmeted one would have a curiously bland expression given her pose. Might need to work on the pommel of the spear too a bit so it's not quite so spikey.

Probably flatten it out like the base of the marine banners or see if I have a skull around somewhere. As for the packs if they work I think I'd also give them to superiors as I sort of want to convert some anyway that would actually match wargear since I doubt a plasma pistol would be a good choice. Would also be an excuse to get one of those Inquisitors anyway as I like the look of their armour.

I'll probably get a better idea once I have the model in person, should probably also find the fleur-de-lys mold I made back when I made the canoness.
