Aaaalright kids! Had a profile on here for ages apparently, but seemingly i only used it to comment once on one blog.

Bit of backstory, i used to be majorly into 40K for many years, got bored of spending tons of money on gak that everyone else had anyway. Wandered off. kept reading the books, collecting the codexes if i found them cheap e.t.c, still have almost everything dating back to rogue trader, and a whole hell of a lot of BL books.

Shifted most of my arty making-things-with-my-hands-grr ways to doing costumes, made many pretty things, stood around looking fabulous in them. Ignored most everything 40K for years modelwise. Then, reading the Heresy books rekindled my love for that whole area of 40K, and in particular my great adoration of the Thousand Sons pre-heresy. Space Egyptians for the win. So, i became a member of the Great Crusade forums (Shout out to all the kids doing pre-heresy before it was cool!) and have a blog about Thousand Sons on there.

Doing that, i realised that (A my skills have improved significantly from making props, and (B i very much enjoy doing armies not everyone has, kitbashed from various sources. At this point, a lot of various ideas for armies i'd wanted to do started swirling in my head... Revamping my Iron warriors, maybe? Nah, too boring, will do it sometime though. Or Death Korps? Nah, all the same models everyone else has, gorgeous though they are. Blood Axe orks, properly done? Nah, too much money to be spent on third party bitz, maybe someday.

Then, i remembered the Savlar Chem Dogs Long a love of mine, thanks to the basic concept being awesome, and how THE INTERNET has basically turned them into Mad Max raiders with lasguns. My great love for postapocalyptia and very, very large supply of various guard and wierd bitz prevailed. Looked up the various chem dogs blogs, shamelessly stole a few ideas from them, began working.

Had this all in a blog on the Off-Topic part of the Great Crusade forums, then realised that i couldn't show it to non-members, I.E. friends who wanted to see (Read:I wanted to show off to), and so, Dakka!

Those of you who actually read all that, i love you in various and disturbing ways. Those of you who didn't, have pretty things anyway!

Basic premise, Savlar armoured company, going with the postapoc/VERY SCAVENGED style, sprinkling some flying rodent gak stuff and humour here and there, along with the occasional nod to Post-Apocalyptic Personalities. Tank Girl, Master Blaster e.t.c.
Mostly kitbashes, some mild examples of green stuff and heavier conversions. Have some pictures of pretty things!

Troops

Sergeant, guy's been torn apart and rebuilt many times at this point, but i think i'm happy with him now.

Tank, was a flamer dude, as evinced Here

Is now an unreasonably tall sergeant. full head taller than most other guard, more imposing than an ork. this pleases me.

Varied troops

(Yes, far left dude with no head is the same guy as dude with head in top photo.)

Standard Bearer so far, have to design and print a custom standard for him.

And that's your lot for now, though i do plan to update this often! Currently on the workbench are a Tank Girl leman russ, using the old escher juve "I'm not tank girl, honest!" model and a leman with a lot of added crazy, a whole bunch of tanks, a fair bit of infantry, and the rest of the sentinel squad, one of whom will be crewed by Chem-Chan of /tg/ fame :]

C&C Welcome, as are suggestions, but i reserve the right to ignore you completely. I might give you an internet cookie if you have a good idea though.

@Eviltrout - It'll probably be a while till anything's painted, got to decide on colours first!

@Rogue Wolves - Cheers, and it's a head from the Baneblade kit, traded for a couple with a mate

So, Updates!

First off, Couple of new troopers, one now finished trooper.

Lefty's now gotten his bandolier strap added plus various gear, the rest of the straps have been added to the older troops too but those aint really worth taking pictures of. Righty is new, i'm a fan, i think i got the Chem Dog thing down well with him.

Second, Beastmen! I figure, if any regiment's likely to have a few dubiously-accepted abhumans wandering about, it'd be the savlar. I'm also planning on having a couple of squats.

Lefty sergeant will have a mohawk sculpted, and a respirator dangling around his neck, once i get the bitz for it. Righty's done. Probably going to do a couple more beastmen, not deployed as a squad or anything, just scattered around amongst the 'umies.

And now, the thing that's stopped me updating this for a while and had me working bloody Constantly on it since me last post, the Tank Girl tank
As a major tank girl fan, i think i got the feeling right for a 40K Tank. a lot of the crazy will come in with the paintjob, but for now, yeah.
Tank Girl herself isn't finished, you can see her in this, just pinned on, but i've only sculpted her combat boots and kneepad, still have to sculpt everything above the waist. When she's properly done i'll post pics though. For now, have a tank!

Lascannon Sign's GS still needs a bit more sanding down, but yes, Yes it will have a BANG! flash painted on it.

I Fully expect a lot of people to be confused and alarmed by this tank, particularly when it's done and painted, but Tankie fans should approve. Summat i've wanted to do for ages anyway, and the Chem Dogs are a pretty perfect opportunity!

Anyway, back to work on troops and more (Relatively) normal tanks, hopefully more updates soon. Ordering some of the newer bitz from Victoria Minis, too.

I love that tank! You just have to design some custom rules for it. I can only imagine playing a badass scenario based off of the story Defixio with that monster, including full rules for firing every weapon on that beast.

Are you actually going to play games with this army? If so, I beg you for pic-filled battle reports!

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

Hehe, cheers.

I may play some games at some point, but i'm much more of a modeller than a gamer. Most of the stuff i make places awesome and the army's fluff above what's good on the tabletop, so even if i did get something finished to a point where i could field it, it'd be terrible

Anywhere where i actually have effective things is purely a coincidence based on a somewhat decent knowledge of what works where, but i still won't have more than a couple of plasma weapons in this army rather stick to what suits the chem dogs, as opposed to have any means whatsoever to fight 2+ saves.

Hell, i just bought an armageddon Basilisk over a Medusa, purely for prettiness. so yeah, i doubt i'll play be surprised if i get the whole army finished to be honest, it's not a common feat with me!

Post-Apoc Savlar Chem-Dogs?
Victoria Lamb's conversion kits?
Tank Girl?

Baby, I'm home!

Some sweet kitbashes you have here. I totally approve of mixing in Renegade parts for Savlars, and finally I see a use of VL's chem heads where they belong

And a few conversion ideas look strangely familiar

Are those brown armor pads scuplted or cut/taken from some other model? They do look good and fitting.

What color scheme are you going to use? As a bit of advice, I'd suggest sticking to uniform colors (khaki/desert yellow/green/etc) with occasional use of bright stuff like hair dyes, improvized armor or trophies. That's what I stick to myself at least, although at first I was going for more ramshackle and raider-styled look with a lot of rusty metal, leather and jeans... but this way they lose the IG feel and look like an ordinary militia or renegade army. Just my two cents.

And nice work on the tanks. I feel really inspired to finalize my long-delayed chimeras now

Yay, thanks dude! nice to get some comments from ye, since your stuff was such an inspiration

Yeah, the Victoria Minis bitz are awesome! the packs at the very least will be on nearly everything, the heads are a bit Mascotscale for me so i have to be smart about what models i put those on, mixing them with FW parts makes it far too obvious.

Lightish brown armour plates, the kneepads/dangling plates i assume ye mean, were kicking about in an ooooold oooold box of fantasy skeleton warriors i had, horrible models but there's like 15 sprues full of chestplates, hanging armour plates, helmets, and those, which were supposed to be shoulderplates, but fit for kneepads crazy well.
Would've been easy to plasticard them, but sod it, if i've got the stuff sitting around!

Colourswise, aye, sticking to pretty uniform colours, set on Light Brown uniforms, with darker brown for the keffiyehs/bandanas and pouches and such. Armour plates will either be Dark Grey to match the tanks, or black. possibly a mix. Bases, predictably, will be wasteland

Add to that a whole hell of a lot of paint chipping and rust, dirt, grime, and indeed, things like mohawks or sideshaves that'll be scattered around being neon colours, plus things like scavenged armour on the tanks and troops will be painted in its original colours, and it should feel Chem Dog-ish, without losing the Imp Guard feel.

WAY too easy for this to end up looking like a renegade guard army, i've already had to explain how not every guard regiment is SODDING CADIANS 3 times already.

Soooo.... TEASER!

It'll be a while till the tank's done, need to get some dragonforge power cables and some new stowage, plus some new dremel drill bits first, however yes. I was struck with inspiration. Well, if they're going to be hiding anywhere, it'd be keeping an executioner running in a near-renegade army...

Great start! I always thought the Chem Dogs had a cool theme, but converting every single trooper in an IG army doesn't appeal to me Glad someone is doing it, though!

Right, long time no post! been busy as hell with work and gathering the money to be able to be alive, let alone buy pretty things plus had a couple of gigs to save up for, so been extra skint.

However! i picked up a dark vengeance box for the cultists and chaos infantry (sold off the rest on ebay, made my money back!), scavved a few of the cultists for the chem dogs with minor conversions, the rest are being converted for dark mechanicus allies for my 40K Iron Warriors.

Incidentally, the chaos models in that box, at least the chosen, are bloody gorgeous sculpts. loving them. have to work out what to paint them as still.

That on top of getting parcels in the post from Victoria Minis and Dragonforge means i've been able to do a teeny bit of work on the chemmies.

Cultists so far, are a few others i'm taking too, but these are a start. had this in mind for the flamer dude since i first saw the model. bloody awesome mini.

Armaggeddon Basilisk so far, still need camo netting and a few bits and pieces of more savlarish mods, but this is just it stowaged up. Also, ladders, so there's actually a way to get on top of the bloody thing. back opens, interior is painted, but i still have to make a pinup and a sleeping guardsman for it so i'll wait on pics of that.

Did a bit of work on the executioner, added a generator dealio to the back. this tank is going to be covered in vents and exposed tubing and warning signs, plus it's already crewed by a squat for safety, so yeah, i'm making a big deal of the fact that executioners are a risky proposition for guard to maintain at the best of times, let alone a nicked one with no replacement parts, being maintained by a bunch of resourceful psychos. Basically, it's going to blow up, just don't know when, so try not to bump into it too hard, and you probably shouldn't shag in the back of it.

Added goggles to the beastman sergeant, still have to sculpt that mohawk. Plus, threw a respirator on an escher for a quick and easy guardsman.

And, work in progress Greta Knox/Chem-Chan! Respirator around her neck, and a chem pack. still have to add random armour plates on the arm, kneepad, and combat boots. soon as i can be arsed to get out the GS again.

So yeah, that's my progress! not as much as i'd like, but at least it's something.

Oh, and, just to tease the internet,

£8 at the car boot. tons of MKVI still on sprue, the marine box is full of thinly painted marines, and there's two bags FULL of MK1 Rhinos and Land Raiders. Plus, about 5 warlord titans. Probably only going to use two of them, the unbuilt ones, the rest of the titans are sort of up for grabs for interesting trades if someone was interested, or they'll just go on the bay. Not really thought about it.

I'm thinking Alpha legion.

I love a good Savlar Chemdogs blog I'm currently making a very, very Savlar...well mostly Renegade Allies. I'm working on it being a full army.

I am in L-O-V-E with that Tank Girl Tank! Totally borrowing the Hunter-Killer missile

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

That's a nice and fitting conversion of DV scum. They are, in fact, nearly perfect plastic Savlars. Only needing a few headswaps and removal of Chaos stars.

As for Greta Knox, as the person who actually gave her the name 'Greta', I must say that, while this is a nice conversion, she doesn't look like Knox much. I am personally using this model as a base for her:
http://www.brother-vinni.com/rus/gallery/28mm/hoolgirl02.htm

Knox consists of 1) shorts, 2) tank top, 3) shark maw breathing mask, 4) Mandy Morbid hairstyle. Yours looks more like a generic Escher girl with a bit of Savlar flavour. Not like it's bad!

Really? personally i quite like this model for her. In my experience, vinni's stuff is scaled quite big femalewise, at least i'd expect that model to be the height of a standard guardsman, and what i like about the Juves is that they genuinely look petite. I get what you mean about the shorts, but i think with combat boots/kneepad/bandages added it won't be too offputting, and the model does have the tanktop. add the Arm plates and a couple of detail bits here and there, i think it'll work. Was considering filing off the vent on that respirator around her neck and painting the teeth, which i probably will do since that's kind of a defining feature, but the only part i REALLY didn't like was the hair. Similar styles, but as someone who rocked a Tank Girl fringe a while back, i know the differences Thinking i might get a blank headsculpt then sculpt the hair/piercings onto that. if i did that, probably worth adding the respirator to her head too instead, tbh.
Once that's done, i think she'll look right.

I'm curious about where your Chem-Chan will go, especially since that mini does have the shorts, but i'd rather have the petite model wearing slightly different pants

Also, @Scrazza, cheers! Hopefully i'll actually have more pretty things to show soon poor and busy right now, barely been able to touch a mini for ages, but i'm working on getting back to it

Cheers folks

@Vet,
Agreed about the Beastmen, it's a really easy conversion to do as well. i guess a lot of people still see them as purely chaos these days.

Squatswise, i do want there to be more, just need the inspiration! and to find a good place to use two bolter-wielding squats. For now, i think the Executioner-driving squat is pretty perfect.

@Shingouki, Stowage is pretty much a random collection of stuff for detailing WW2 tank kits, collected tons of the stuff over time. have a google or an ebay search for it, you'll find tons, it just tends to be relatively pricey. there are some Sprue kits of some that're less so, i think. A few kits of it will go a long, long way, if you're into superdetailing tanks.

Which you should be, cos it's awesome.
