@ bladesire = I've done random models and units but this is my first painted army. Weathering effects I would go to migsula or greydeath as their the masters of that. I think greydeath has some tut's up on it.

@ every one else = Thank you!

Finally done... Shew!

The Horror Story : I finished the dreads and clear coated them and went out when they were dry to bring them in... and they were covered in a white haze. So after pacing and freaking out 2 days before my tourney deadline I called around to the local solid painters and searched on the interwebz to see if their was a quick fix. (aka not stripping and doing it over) I found 2 ways to fix the problem. 1. zip kicker super glue accelerant. 2. gloss clear and then flat clear on top of that. Having nothing to loose at all. I went the next day (now the night before the tournament) and bought everything I needed from the local hobby shop. I tried about 5 coats of zip kicker and it did look better but it was still what I would called ruined. So I glossed it and took it into the bath room to let it dry with all the lights and heat lamp on and the fan. It was the humidity that did it so I've learned. And after the coat of Gloss it looked like new again. I then hit it with flat clear and did the same thing. Applied the static grass about 2 am the night before the tourney. Talk about close!

Any who, Here it is completed for now.

I won 1st in the large model category in the painting competition with my land raider and best painted in the 40k gt at the big waaagh last weekend and scored me a daemon army. All the frantic painting was worth it and I had a blast. However, I'm a little burnt out so that's it for now. I'll start this log back up when I start my BFG fleet and units that I want to expand my army into different avenues. Until next time thanks for egging me on and keeping me going at it.

LBB

P.S. When I do return to this project Chapter master and Honor Guard to follow.

Seriously I totally agree with everything that has been said here. I would also like to add that on the rare chance that you decide to sell your army, you will totally make a fortune.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

Is there a P&M hall of fame sticky or something? IF so this should go there - if not, someone should make one and this should be the first!

Anyone else agree?

I started my Battle fleet gothic army to match my army the other day. My opinion on John Blanche's work is basically hit or miss I love some of his pieces, However I dislike just as much of it. (See daemons codex...) In Battle Fleet Gothic I personally think he nailed it. I love all his art work for the series and I think it captured the gritty 41st century it was going for. So I decided to try and replicate Blanche's works on my fleet while still remain in my own chapters theme. The basic "plan" is to paint the whole thing slightly whimsical and splotchy and then tighten up on the details of the ship to bring them into focal points. I noticed in his bfg paintings he made everything a real mess and then brought the imperial ships prow into focus by making it very detailed and red and it created something to grab your eye right off the bat and then made a sense of movement from there. So any who my ships are only about half done but here’s what I have done so far.

These are after Ivory spray, devlun mud wash, skull white drybrushing, and a very watered down gryphon sepia splotched around randomly.

Here I took an old tooth brush and splattered a burnt umber followed by white. (normal acrylic craft paints)

I grinded off the detail on the two wing things because it was one of the only places I could find to put a mural.... (like you didn't see that coming)

Here I just added foundation red paints and thats where I had to stop.

I have 3 squads of 4 gladius frigutes with 3 different heraldry markings on the wings and a strike cruiser to go along with each.

Anywho I hope to get my fleet done to match my army by the end of the week.

A quick update!

Commissions have been keeping me spread out so thin that I hardly have time to work on what I thought to be a week long project. All I lack now is bases, free hand murals on the battle barge and the antennas on the ships. If you have any suggestions on the antennas please shoot them at me because I'm stumped. I was thinking black with dry brushed codex gray?... For the bases I went down to my local craft store and got all wooden senic oval bases and steel rods for the ships to mount on. (I hate the GW clear flying stands) I intend on decorating the base much as you would with a mini such as astroaids and stars and maybe a spare thunderhawk on the battle barge base. Any who this is what I have so far.
