Kind of tempting to get some models that I can use without conversions/very little conversion to bulk up the numbers as scratch sculpting takes a while! Any ideas?

Some of the Hell Dorado miniatures are suitably freaky and might fit in with your gloriously misshapen misfits, like this dude for example. Or these things from Dark Age Games

Looking promising! Great choice for the dogs, they look suitably vicious and mutated - are you going to 40k up the zombies a little though? Maybe a pack, or a few grenades or bionics could bring them a little into the future

Wish I could suggest some minis for you - the things you've made are so unique it's tough to find something with as much character!

Oh man, those are all pretty sinister!

Scarper - I think you're right. One of them has a pistol holster already but I might have to add a few more bits and pieces otherwise they'll stick out.

In the mean time:

"Durrrrrrrrr"

The idea is that he just looks too nice to be shot at (until he comes after your gang's leader with a spear gun).

Haha, that's definitely using modelling to your advantage, it never occurred to me to make my miniatures cute looking.

The stuff from dark age games are very good, and properly weird.
Use them!
Converting isn't the end, just finding some minis that you like outside the normal ranges is part and parcel of doing this kind of project.

Latest conversion is going to have minimal GS work:

When is a blunderbuss too big?!
I'm going to cut a bit off at the butt end of the gun so that he's weighed down more to the barrel end and it keeps that balance the original model has. Have to give props to the guys in the Jade Vessel blog and to Q0rbin where I first saw a gnoblar body - zombie head conversion and to PDH for his goblin body - ghoul head conversions. Think this is the first time I've seen this particular gnoblar used in this way though.
Don't worry, this guy's not finished so there's still a lot of mold-line smoothing and a bit of GS work to go!

and then some. The blunderbuss made me smile. Sometimes oversized weapons don't work and sometimes they are spot on. Nice head is it an Enigma Zombie head?

The head you've done is so good, like how happy he looks . By the way telling people your tactics can be dangerous.

Cool, I like the look of his head. Maybe his gun ought to have a bipod at the front, or I guess he could be carrying it in his other hand, like a sniper off to set up his camp.

I've definitely looked at all your grots before as well! Damn, it must have lodged somewhere in my subconscious!
Well I hope you take my plagiarism as flattery!

In other news, people seriously need to check out the Punk Moth blog. Some seriously messed up stuff going down there and it's not getting the attention it deserves! I'm looking at PDH, Baiyuan, Scarper, etc. You guys should go and have a look at this warped guy's work!

@ jackanory
I'm flattered, be shure But I don't think that there really were much impact from my work - You're making a very unique and self sufficient designs. Completely unexpected in 40k but none the less much more in theme than the original GW's arts and that is sooo awesome!

Good stuff on that grot AND the scavvy! It's a relatively simple conversion, but very effective.

And just went over to the Punk Moth- I'm seriously impressed. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hahaha, he's fantastic! Great use of parts. Have to imagine he's scavenging that for one of his bigger buddies - the recoil on that thing would send him skywards! Is that a kroot rifle that donated the parts for the rifle butt? He's adorable, in a deadly way

Cheers for the link, and the namedrop - will have to check it out!

Yeah, that kroot kit is one of my favourite plastic kits. So many bits that can be used in so many instances!
Sorry PDH, Just realised that you asked where the zombie head is from. It's actually the Mantic zombie kit. Some great zombie poses you can get out of it...but only about 3 if you use it without conversion.

Peter has been refusing to use the mantic zombies for quite a while now, he prefers to wait for a new set of plastic zombies from GW (like that's going to happen any time soon), so don't tell him there is good stuff on the mantic zombies or he might die from headexplosion.

Thanks for the shoutout regarding my blog, jackanory, I really appreciateĀ it.

Your Scavvies look bloody marvelous! They're full of character and have the most personilized feel on them that I've ever stumbled into. Keep up the good work, I'll definately follow your progress and try to share my thoughts as often as I can.

Ooh, only just saw that, thanks! I've got a few WIPs to share. I've just been throwing a few simple conversions together, kind of to bulk up the numbers of my gang. I'm not sure if they fit with the other members of my gang perfectly. What d'you think?
The PDH grot body conversion with an old school twist:

This was a Malifaux limited edition Easter gremlin. No sure about his gun though (bolt pistol with kroot rifle barrel):

The classic Mordheim dreg. The reason he's got the ram's horns is that I might be using him in Malifaux as a Guild Fanatic (counts as Desperate Merc for all you Mali-fans) as well as Necromunda and the symbol of The Guild (the ruling power in Malifaux) is the ram's head:

And then finally, this is the face of one of my scratch sculpts (so nearly finished now!):

Aww, so cute! He's like a little mutant Eskimo, or a stunty John Prescott with a machine gun.

The gun looks a bit clunky but will probably look a lot better with the barrel drilled out.

I think the more PC term is Inuit but thanks! I know what you mean about the gun but I think I'm going to leave it as an homage to the original model. The 2nd edition boxed set of 40k was the first thing I (my poor parents) ever bought from GW
