@Graven: It can happen, you know? Maybe here... Shipping might be an issue, though, maybe you can have it fly itself to you instead?

@Gits: Thanks! After some quick Google-search, I found out real vultures are quite boring when compared to the cartoonish image I always had, more muted and brownish colours in the flesh and feather ones, I'm afraid. I'm going for a middle point with this one, will see how it goes.

@Red H: That cranked a laugh, cheers! I'll make sure to properly edge highlight it, then. Good catch.

@Knightley: Thank you!

@Warboss_W: Thanks, WD. Working on colours next, will surely try some different washes on the basing stone, remember you mentioned that before, green, yellow and even blue or red/rust shades. Also trying to add some pop to the tree, or making it a lighter grey-brown tone, haven't really figured it out yet.

Well, when one types "vultures of Argentina" ( well buitres de Argentina) into a search engine...

I can't say I'm fond o' vultures either, because real vultures are quite disgusting. Guess how they cool off. And guess what they do when frightened. Better yet, save yourself and don't think about it. I had one in land in my yard last week, a Turkey Vulture (seriously, one did. One of my neighbors has some evergreen trees in which several vultures have started to roost. Kind of creepy. I think it came in to drink from the bird bath I have.) I named it Paul.

Paul is not a bad name, though for a vulture... I would have named it Renner, or Hannah, or Bob.

Or George (In context, that'd count as a palindrome too, wouldn't it? )

Not much painting done, unless white primer counts. Some filing and sanding too, preparing for winter:

Maybe some of those get some (coloured) paint on before next year!

Hope to have some actual progress soon.

Cheers!

Well, there is never just one vulture, so plenty of more to be named, I'm sure. A grouping of vultures is known as a venue, BTW, unless they are circling in the air. Then it becomes a kettle of vultures. ( like a gaggle of geese versus a skein of geese.) Apparently the collective noun for Condors is a scarcity. I did not know that. An Exultation of Larks and a Pandemonium of Parrots wer always my favorites...

On Topic, Have you considered drilling holes into the ends of the dowel rods and inserting the wire instead of wrapping it around the dowel? Less of a mess, and less likely to have primer or paint flake off the wood than it might from the metal wire, when you handle it. (lesson learned the hard way )

You can also drill into the dowel and then insert and glue in a pin. One of the nice ones with the T-heads ( cut the head off.) to use as cleaning tools/probes/glue applicator &c. It works very well.

Paint on!

did not know there was a different collective noun for them whether they were in flight or on the ground - tasty! gotta love those collective nouns. Always been a fan of 'a murder of crows' myself

Pandemonium, even without the parrots, very much depicts it most of the time.

No venue, much less a kettle, only one little vulture around here...

No sign of the hanging guy yet but the sign itself (In Spanish, 'cause Red H).

@Shazo: Might still do. It'd also be a good name for a debt colector. Very versatile name, Igor

@Red H: As for the holders, I've not had much issue with the wrapped wire (and it's easier to wrap it around the skewer than drilling into it) yet, most probably because I don't paint that much . Will try to get a hold on some proper solid dowels (imposible to drill lengthwise into the ones I'm using, bambu-like) and try with the pins.

@Januine: I'd say the first place would by a tie between that one and a damning of jurors. Or a table of gamers

Thanks for stopping by.

Edited for typo(s).

Nice work on the vulture, it's looking nice.

Maybe some woodgrain streaks painted on the tree to give it some more texture?

Not having built much lately, I felt the urge to chop some plastic.

So, changing pace, I started the next future unfinished project:

Quick sketch and chassis sides:

Ribbing the base, and a bit further along:

(I thought I'd taken some pics of the chassis box assemby, apparently I had not. Either way, nothing too mysterious about that either)

I don't know from where, I had an old, partial, and very mistreated WWII Panzer kit. Inspired by Klaus, Not Santa's great builds, I decided to try and merge scratchbiuilt and historic parts. Hence, wheels and, later on, some tracks.

Some time ago I'd procured a compass cuter that I had not tried before. Half-rounded turret it is:

And current status, with - WIP within WIP - turret additional (also recycled) plating (There surely is a name for that type of overhanging? armour), and beginning of a hatch.

And that's about it so far.

Thanks for stopping by.

PS(s):

@Dr H: Grain is definitively on the list, just not sure how (and if) to pull it of. Taking a little break from it while pondering, thanks for the input!

@Shazo: Great, now I need to get my another one!

Spaced armour, I believe.
Not space armour, that an entirely different thing...

Nice progress on the tank though.

Lots of tiny, delicate, overlapping (but mostly in the same direction) strokes of various "wood" colours generally works.
It's what I did on the frames of one of my recent paintings:

Thanks, Doc. I'll try something on that line as soon as I pick up the brush again.

Space(d) armour, got it. Thanks for that too. Might go all in and add some side skirts as well.

In an unusual turn of events, I even had a little time to add a couple more bits to the turret today, pics forthcoming.

Meanwhile, wheels and other rescued parts are soaking in Dettol, not looking forward to the smelly scrubbing...

Cheers.

Another weekend gone, a little more building.

Stripping went well, hardly any scrubbing required. As a bonus, sanitized bits too, though half the house smelling of Dettol, not so good...

Some of the pieces cut off from the old hull lost got too close a shave, so some bits needed to be partly reconstructed. Track assembly, very WIP:

Looking more like it:

Meanwhile, I completed the space(d) armour and main gun mount on the turret:

Tracks so far, return wheel needed next:

Comments, suggestions and random thoughts are welcome.

Thanks for stopping by.

That looks pretty impressive, liking the short wheel base of this build. What have you rescued the wheel from PZ IV kit??

@Alaricuk: Thanks!

Close. The tan bits are from a Mk. III Panzerkampfwagen Tamiya kit, and older than more than a few Dakka users. Road wheels' axles were moulded into the hull, thus the shaving (and over shaving ) issues. The drive wheel got the sprockets from a (similarly old) M7 model, as the PZ's ones were too big for this chassis.

Stripping? The verb you seek is desnudar... but not for paint removal

LT, Perhap extend the glacis to a point in front. Truly vertical surfaces are a bad thing for tanks.

@EDC: Thanks! More on the gun to come soon.

@Graven: From now onwards, I'll just paint on top of previous coats, no matter how bad, ugly or caked in old paint things are. And it'd be your fault

@Cleatus: Thanks! It's moving along, just don't hold your breath, please.

@Red H: Glacis? Good word. Reminiscent of the speed this build is coming along, too. Will see into it, add some extra pieces to the front. Better for aerodynamics as well

@Shazo: Finished? See above, please

@stonned_astartes: Repurposed too. Thanks!

Hardly had any time to sit at the workbench last weekend, jst a bit more on the tracks and a very incipient start on the track guards.

Got a bit trigger-happy with the heat gun on the tracks when trying to make them fit better, hope nothing some mud can't cover during weathering.

Thanks for stopping by.

More proof of life than proper progress update, but such is life...

(My best half went on a short trip for the weekend, and single parenting turned out too time-consuming to leave much left for hobbying Just taxing the cubs to and fro and keeping them fed put a dent on my already lacking work pace)

As per Red H's suggestion, reworked the front into a rounded glacis (Would that be be called glacing? ) Tried to build some view ports for the turret, and found a bit to attach a future aerial to. Some more on the track guards too.

Put a (las?)cannon up, and started on the detailing, mainly some service hatches for the upper hull, (primered those for better contrast, not truly sold on them yet though, even with rivets):

And that's it for now.

Thanks for sopping by.
