Dam that was quick I don't know how your doing this of late but you just keep churning out the PC models nice tank and like the Ping turrets always look great and it will have no problem with the bridge not with those tracks.

What did you use for the chimney section

Hey after your cool little grot tank you got me to actually start building one of my own almost complete as well .......... Almost

Yeah also like the tank, reminds me somehow of french Renault FT17.

And things like that your workshop just spits out when needed... not bad, not bad! When will you build a steamtank in 1:1?

Because of the overall proportions, the small dimensions, then there is this relative high rising cockpit btw, turret, of course the old-fashioned uncovered tracks (not to speak of rivets)... and this unique tension regulator on the side of the tracks looks to me a bit like a part of a steam engine gear.

Hello boys and gals!

again I have been away way too long... and awfully quiet too... but I have been not lazy... mind you....definitely not!
due to nerfests new painting and modelling competition which is this time themed for sin city...I have had a bad case of inspiration hit me...

so I made this fella here... to battle amongst the heavy hitters in this comp... I am sure I can get at least my own nose bloody^^...

here comes...Dwight McCarthy... I have heard he is staring in the new movie with a different face... but I stuck to the old one, thank you very much ...clive owen is much cooler...
also... I am rather pleased with my progress of the bridge and all its "parts"... but more to this later this week...

also....this is how it all started...:

parts

primed...

base under construction...

and together with his pals on the trophy shelf^^

funny how I often fall in love with non german tanks... somehow very few german ones ever made it to my favourite list... the Renault one sure is on it... even if its shape more calls out for a grot to be sitting inside than a man... which is also saying something for RL...that is a rather small one...

I see where you´re coming from...^^ the track shape of a mark V and the landraider are due to its rhombic shape my favourite... I need to do a tadpole soonish...^^

the open track mechanics is still something I often try to avoid... yet it always looks soooo cool... I need to bite the bullet soon....argh^^

well...that´s from me...for now...

I am sorry I have recently yet again cut short on the banter... you don´t know how I miss this too... I was lurking however...and your work cam was inspiring and crippling in the same way ... but one thing this showed me is that monochrome can be done by me... (wasn´t even thinking it wouldn´t work with you for instance for one sec )

my wife liked the cons the most too... ^^

at dave... you wouldn´t believe me how feverish I have searched for the head... even tho I still had to do GS on it too... I remembered it but didn´t knew where it was... so I had to sieve a ton of bitz... usually my stuff is organized and sorted... so a full sorting box of different heads... but I found it finally in a big unsorted box full of bitz... well... always fun to play with bitz... but if you want to stay focused... bummer...

I really love the streetlight. It subtle and works a treat. It's great also that the grey scale has given you more confidence - so now, more! Cool cons, too

Well, I've only been a judge twice... it's just that it's been on the last two competitions... I can still comment on technical matters, even as a judge, as those sort of comments help everyone (and I try to add those sort of comments on the competition thread so that everyone sees it). I just can't say whether what you are doing is a good idea or not (layout, colours, etc...).

As for the Nerdcademy piece, as a fellow competitor, I can comment. Good job.

You seem to have pushed yourself with the painting and done a good job of it, so keep going with that.
Only criticism I can see at the moment is that he doesn't really seem to be holding the gun in his right hand quite right.

Good job on filling in the coat also.

What I want to know, is how does he keep those Chucks so clean in all that rain and city dirt?

at LDD...well... funny thing...I have a sorting box that reminds me a lot of your pic... full of different and extremely sorted heads...just due to hoarding stuff gets not sorted into the box as often as it should be... talk about clever plans and so on

at Dr. H werrrlll... I wasn´t too chuffed about the bolt pistols to begin with... then the cadian gunner arms aren´t also the best to play with... in the end it went soso... so you´re probably right about the weird pose...and dave is too... but the judges have to decide^^

at shaso... when I did some research for this comp clive owen was my instant inspiration... so the red shoes was a must... besides...he´s probably this way the manliest interpretation of Dorothy around the world wide web

at graven... thanks for the compliment about the grey scale...it is something I should invest some time more too... there is some interesting potential in this kind of painting... (the saving on different hues of paint is only one...)

well... in other news... since the nerdfest comp is over... now is the time to wrap things up with the league of extra ordinary riveteers terrain competition...
it was about roads... if ye lot remember... and I made a lifting bridge for it... since we are not supposed to show our final pics in the comps thread... well I am still allowed to show´em here......

which is now happening:

this is the final piece...(es)...

complete shot...

as you see this is a small () scene ...a Victorian steampunk tank is trying to cross the lifting bridge over a small river...
but suddenly a tall and lanky looking rusty robot aka a the steampunk equivalent of a bridge troll is having issues with that intention of the tanks driver...

here come more detailed shots...:
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
bridge lifting...

closed...

counterweight...

resting point

river....(yes I know it is all broken and looks like ice...wasn´t my intention... was how the makeshift way made the water turn out...)

note: the bases are specially made for that whole entry... so all is my entry...

(the surface of the water was made with a very thick coat of varnish...and the ground underneath is made from pencil sharpening wood...mashed up with a crude helping of PVA...and paint...)

and then some detail shots of the troll robot and the tank...:
tank
Spoiler:

and the robot...(internet cookie for the fella who can tell what toy got converted for this model^^)
Spoiler:

(mind you...there is are yet no WIP uploaded of this whole project...well not that many... but none of the robot...had to keep it a secret^^...)

well...here is hoping it will help me all in all to establish a good footing in the comp again...

cheers, vik

Nice work Vik The working bridge is great, and I really like the green you used on the plates - really suits a work of civil engineering.

The tankette looks brilliant, you keep producing these great looking vehicles with great use of 'junk', lovely stuff.

And what a nice suprise the troll-bot is Excellent work there, really, really like that Works extremely well as a steampunk troll

Looking amazing my friend, amazing.

Love the bridge, the steel work is looking fabulous. And a working mechanism is awesome. The "Troll" is just fantastic, a proper "Robot" perchance. And to top it off we are treated to a very impressive Vik special Steam tank.

Good luck in the competition my friend, it's pretty tough, but your right in there bud, awesome work.

Well you excelled here Vik and where to start ............. I guess the bridge first and what more can I say than Riveting and it works which is even cooler

The thing I like about the steam tank is the simplicity to its design and regalness, it seems to have been built to provide a specific purpose but clothed in a regal scheme.

Now that robot troll is a nice touch especially the hammer, now it kind of reminds me of 2 things 1 Robots the CGI animation movie or the Iron Giant which or it could be and probably is something completely different.
