Isn't gregtech supposed to be in too? Not that I actually like much of what it adds.
Also, when's Redpower looking to be updated?

No. GregTech has been removed.
At least, that's what I got from a video Docm did where he intiviewed Slowpoke. That was before the introduction MC 1.4.6, though.
From what Slowpoke said then, more people hated gregtech than loved it, so the removed it from the pack.
Likewise, another mod they were trying out for the pack (Twilight Forest) should be in the ultimate pack as almost everyone loved it.
Unsure if it is going to be in the ultimate pack, though. But TwiForest is a very intense mod (in terms of how much lag it makes) and since the lite pack is for small servers... it makes sense that it isn't in it.

The problem is that the challenge factor is either too hard, or too soft when it comes to SMP. If you set some minerals really rare on SMP, people just trample the earth trying to find them, and it ends up being a massive pain to find unmined areas like in the server now. OR it gets so easy that you just duplicate stuff.

How does Twilight Forest generate lag? I haven't seen any mention of it. It's just another dimension, like the nether and mystcraft ages. I mean if people go throwing chunk loaders around maybe, but they can do that in the current dimensions. So is there something in particular that Twilight Forest does besides being an additional dimension?

It's more on bad computers/bad servers where it generates bad lag. And that is usually from chunk loading, those massive trees can cause lots of lag.
Cicada are also prone to causing lag. Again, on bad computers/servers.
But seeming the tekkit server could survive a few days of lag machines on the server (including when my infinite material machine broke..) it should have no problems with the twilight forest.

I've been relatively quiet regarding this because lately my work-life has been taking up so much of my time that I haven't had any time to do much of anything. However, things are (hopefully) settling down again now.
As it's taking so long for the FTB Ultimate pack to make an appearance, I think I'll make my FTB test server available to the regular whitelist later this evening. It's currently running the Direwolf20 v5.0.1 pack. However, you guys would have to be aware that as a test server, I'm trying out various tests on it, and it is susceptible to crashes, rollbacks, resets and other maladies. But I will try to keep them to a minimum.
Granting you lot access will also make it easy for me to test the load on the server and get your opinions on what's good and bad (i.e. mystcraft age settings, banned/allowed items etc etc). Also, as a temporary server, it will likely be reset when Ultimate does come out, so don't go building your 40 acre shrine to bacon and then complain when it all vanishes later. You can still build a 40 acre shrine to bacon if you so desire, just no complaints please.
So yeah, if you're still interested, keep an eye on this thread later this evening...

Sounds good! If there aren't too many extra blocks/ biomes etc, would it be plausible to keep the map? Obviously we don't know yet whether that will work or not, but if it would, it's be great if it worked.

They've said they're going to try to make it possible to upgrade from the Direwolf and Mindcrack packs to Ultimate, but there are no guarantees. Also we may find that we don't like some particular setup on the test server and may want to restart it anyway. There may be new world gen (Thaumcraft's overworld pigmen spawners, or Forestry's apatite-overload for example) that requires a reset for Utlimate. So for now, please assume it will all be reset when Ultimate arrives.
As for the crashes, rollbacks and world resets. Like I said, I'll try to keep them to a minimum, but they might be about the same levels we had back in Beta 1.5 on the regular server. i.e. frequent crashes and occasional rollbacks
World resets will hopefully be rare and only if we want to try out something new.

Damn, Apatite was annoying back on my early tekkit days... I ended up throwing most of it into lava.
That reminds me of a little troll that myself and Frostoman concocted... We turned our friend's entire house into Silverfish blocks with Worldedit. They were horribly confused, as their house fell to pieces while they tried to kill all of them.
On another occasion, we accidentally nuked them... We thought that a Nuke in water only caused damage to Entities, like TNT does. We were wrong.
I miss those days of not really knowing what was going on.
Back OT: Woop! Thanks dark! I have no clue how you're supporting these servers for us, but thanks anyway!

It's going to be at:
ftb.darkinnit.com:25585
The :25585 is required (for now).
I haven't unlocked it for you all yet. You can add it to your Multiplayer list and admire the title, but if you try to join it'll just tell you you aren't whitelisted.
