@Dr H: yes and no... in that order

Final steps...

Paint metal bits.

Wash black.

Wash sepia to bring everything together & make the metal looks a bit worn.

Edge/highlight with silver to make it pop.

The finished product!

Awesome work Gits, the washes pull everything together !

I also really like the photo of his face; the combination of the pink gums, horns, bare metal and yellow armor looks ace

Will the back-piece of the Squiggoth cover up the yellow base or will that show through the floor of the back-piece ? (I am sorry if that sounds confusing...)

Brilliant piece of work.

And now for more tiny detailing work? I still think a little more individual attention to the scales would be fantastic.

I got you. The how'd ah will cover the back, but um going to magnetize it on so I can proxy this as a truck as well.

Thanks Cam, means a ton coming from an ork-master such as yourself.

I'll see what I can do.

I agree completely. Once I get it painted enough to be playable I'll revisit it for details.

Thanks so much Case! It makes for a slow painting process but in the end it seems worth the wait.

Thanks all for your kind comments, well see how much progress I can make on the how'd ah today.

Why do I think it needs Catepillar written on it, probably because it's an earthmover . The yellow is beautiful as ever . Sorry I've been so absent lately, only a little bit of time to spare and usually I only have enough time to post something quick.

He's looking really nice Git's, the silver parts really help make the yellow pop,

Can we have an ork or very brave MW in a shot with him so we can get a sense of scale next time?

Are you going to do/do you have the howdah that goes on him?

Is there a howdah for it, or am I going crazy?

Here's a scale shot with a variety of things around it. Old big mek & burna inside the howdah... grots, ork (runt herd), grot tank & dread outside.

Not the best angle I guess for comparing sizes. I'll try another one straight on from the side in a bit.

That Squiggoth is looking mighty good! the armor contrasts with the scaly skin very nicely

I really love how striking the yellow is, when the howdah is done it's going to be glorious. For some reason I thought it was a bit bigger but it's certainly ample sized!

It is much smaller than I expected. Still cool though.

Even the Gargantuan one is small compared to other FW stuff of the same price. No more resin then a Eldar Scorpion tank for double the price. It is cool to see them though, as you don't very often.

Looking closely at mine as I was painting it... there's a bit of crudity about it that suggests it's an old sculpt (which I believe is correct). It's still a very nice model of course, but when you look into the nooks and crannies you see short-cuts or things designed for ease of casting that you don't typically see for models designed with modern casting techniques in mind.

A large part of the Ork offerings are quite old. I'd wager they haven't cast any in quite some time.

I agree. You can really see the difference between the older sculpts and those few newer ones too. There is absolutely no comparison between my squiggoth and my mega-dread... the sculpting and casting / refinement of the mega-dread is far superior to that of the squiggoth.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Always nice to get positive feedback on a lengthy project. I'm guessing you guys don't really need to see me repeat the steps on the howdah. Same bat time, same bat channel. I'll try to do one step each night which should mean I'll be done by the week's end.

It really came out great, beautiful - and quite massive - addition to the army indeed!

Howdah is going to be carrying along the same yellow armour, right? Plans for breaking it up a bit? (Thinking about preventing the whole construct on top ending up overpowering the reds below, and the red-yellow/tan contrast that worked so well on the beast)

Here 'tis. I'm going to leave it the way it is for the time being. It's a really busy model and I'm not sure adding a bunch of free-hand detail is going to help it all that much. I will be adding more detail to the inside of the howdah however... but as I have a tournament tomorrow and this is the centerpiece of my army... this'll have to do for now. Votes welcome and greatly appreciated.

Looks amazing, Gits. That brown armor REALLY made for a great yellow. Turned out nice against that reddish purple skin.

You know that we are totally expecting bat-reps (or at least photos) of Squiggy on the table!

(also.... your avatar... much wow xD )
