So, I was going to buy a B5 Call to Arms fleet from the warstore and a few more pegasus gothic buildings... But Neil doesn't have the fleet in stock! Bugger!

So, i've somewhat impulsively decided to buy the COD City box. Normally, that is $175 but will be only $131.25 plus shipping.

My question to you guys is whether the city is a good deal? The description of the box talks in terms of being able to build 10 "buildings." It doesn't reference any of the specific types of other buildings in the boxed sets. Will it have bits to make a Manufactorum and such?

Any guidance you guys can give will be greatly appreciated.

According to the TGN notice (http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/?p=1041) it is any combination of the 10. That would mean lots and lots of extra fiddly bits.

I got it when it was first released last year. I built several large ruins with it and still have a lot left over. I've used the terrain extensively and have had no complaints. All the extra bits can help make for themed bases or what ever else you can throw together.

For $131, it is a heck of a deal.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Yeah you got a good deal. I paid £100 which is about $180 or so i think.

I made three complete WYSISYG buildings and three Ruins with my set.

the kit is awesome and you'll have lots of small parts left over.
The only problem with the kit is you have to build ruins to get the maximum out of the kit. about a third of the kit is of damaged wall sections. I would have prefered complete building parts that i could have cut into to make ruins...

It took me two afternoons to build and paint the set, about 10-15hrs.
I based onto thick Plastic Foam card board type stuff
I used two cans of GW Spray, one black and one rough coat to prime, dry brushed with acrylic grey mixed from a art supplies store or else it would use up about four or more GW pots to dry brush...
and washed it with some mixed up GW inks mixed with water and some soap...

I think the COD rules are alot of fun, but you really need to decide on lines of sight make sure you both know the COD rules before a game, it's good to sort out if a units on top of a building what it can see. or you'll have a fair few 'can that unit see that unit' type problems... this soured my first game of COD to some degree.

I had a awesome game where my eldar had to hold a building medical center strategic asset, so i set up ten dark reapers and put a farseer behind them with fortune. they had two saves and then feel no pain!... I still lost...

I'll upload some photos in 2-3 hours when i get home.

But to respond to the first post, I think you should relax I think you made a good purchase...

Panic.

It's probably a good deal at 175 dollars, but a lot of it is for ruins as Panic says. Demolished, half-demolished buildings. I was thinking of getting the 90 dollar set myself.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't mind ruined buildings so I guess the set is going to be for me. That a few bits and a moonscape package and I will be a happy camper. =)

I'll also be combing the city pieces with 4 sets of pegasus gothic buildings. I should be bale to make some insane terrain.

oh yeah, that's my smallest board 3'x4' i've been thinking about buying a sector box to supplement it so that it better fills a 6'x4' board...
When building it make sure you have a solid base material, or you'll be fixing you buildings every time the board bends. i think about 5mm ish looks like a cool curb kinda...also I wouldn't recommend building any thing more than two stories, i've plyed on games with three floors and the squads waste half the game moving to the top, since in COD every thing must start on the ground...

Oh... It's definitely worth it.

The thing is monstrous.

I have no idea just how many sprues are in it (I haven't counted), but there are a LOT. The box is completely filled from top to bottom with sprue. KNow how you can get, say, a tank and shake the box and you'll hear the sprues banging around inside? Not this bad-boy.

Shake it up and, after you apply the Icy Hot to your now aching shoulders, you'll be shocked at how little movement there is.

The claim of 10 buildings is not joke.

If you do it right and add in some plasticard & bits, I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit 12 - 15 buildings.

It's a great box set.

Absolutely, just make sure you have the time and motivation for a major project, assuming you paint and make bases for everything.

I managed to get mine for just over 100 bucks because my FLGS was having an after christmas sale.

The liberal us eof diamond pattern plasticard and 4 pegasus gothic building should allow me to pretty much fill a 6x 4 table.

I just ordered a few minutes ago. I am so stoked. BTW, the pegasus gothic buildings are the same way.. no movement when you shake the box.

I bought one when it came out, and through various other purchases and bitz orders I've probably ended up with about 2 and a half of the city boxes. Very much worth it. The CoD terrain is great fun to put together, and you can do so much with it.

I'm even getting another one soon.

This is probably the best thing GW has ever produced. The buildings look great, they are very sturdy, and you get a lot in that box!

I almost bought it the other day. Cooler heads prevailed
and I bought one of the buildings instead, as a trial. Now
I want to go back in the future and pick up the entire box.

The kit is quite good. I think I'm going to use it more to
build buildings rather than corner buildings. I wish they had
made the Fantasy buildings quite as modular.

I bought one yesterday from thewarstore. I just couldn't resist saving 40$, especially after seeing the above pictures. I am unreasonably excited now I almost broke down and bought a second one, or at least another sector, when the nice lady asked me if I was "sure you don't want anything else?" but I had just dropped a ton of cash on utilities and mortgage, so with a sniffle I had to say "Yes... I am sure."

10" tall maybe?

My only suggestion to you would be to immediately bitz order 10-20 more of these:

They're the one thing you'll run out of before you get to the end.

He's right. If you aren't careful, you WILL run out.
Ten bucks a pop is a bit pricey for flooring, though. That's why I suggested plasticard & bits.

You can use half of the amount of flooring you'd normally use in each building, use some plasticard "I" beams as reinforcement under them, & cover the openings with "plates" made of plasticard, old unused Rhino hatches, etc.
The diamond pattern plasticard mentioned earlier would look decent mixed in, too.

I am going to be using this as well.....

....for flooring. I like the metal deck plating look. That and the sprues you posted ought to cover me for the floors. Unless you were talking about the street lamps.... If that is the case I may have an idea. Thanks for the hint though. I'll have to watch my usage of that sprue.

I bought a Manufactorium tonight. I will be getting more of this terrain. I'm very surprised by the sturdiness of it. I agree, this is one of GW's better releases. So many options.

Yes, I meant the floor pieces.

I tend to use only the kit and don't work with plasticard, so I went out and bought lots of floor sprues. I have close to 30 sprues worth still unused.

More pictures of my buildings.

Yeah again the floor peices are a problem because some are not complete... damaged corner sections. I think i would have liked one or two more sprues, but a little fore thought and you can make them stretch... just improvise.

ummm yeah and when building think about blocking off holes where minis can fall inside, they can be a pain to shake out again! this don't do the little fellas paint jobs any favours.

During games the bultresses around the small building are a right pain, i wouldn't put so many on next time.
I think the other two are better, because they are easyer to climb and move around on with larger squads, due to their larger first floor platforms.

On these building I count them as WYSIWYG plus any one standing on the base of the building as being in cover. i guess you have to imagine that there is alot of twisted girders around etc...

Yeah, with the big box, I made six peices of terrain.
I could have made more but the building would be smaller and less interesting... petty fair trade off I think.
I thought about it before starting and built it this way to have a even a mix of terrain types.
Whole building that can't be entered or shot through. WYSISYG
Ruins that can be walked through and take cover inside of. Area terrain

My ruins are fairly boring squares of terrain with the ruin corners...
I might if i buy more make different shaped ruins, L shaped etc... but because you can't shoot through area terrain, this sort of creates a area where a squad can move with no movement penalty and have lots of cover around them to hide from enemy... I'll have to think about it...

Complete building are more fun i think to play on, also they make better objectives, why is the enemy trying to capture it....?

I'll put together more "tower-like" figures instead. How
sturdy are these things without floors? My Pegasus gothic

Not sure about them being stable free standing I 'no more nails'd mine to the boards, best bet is to make one and check it out.

If you wen't to town you could probabily use magnets and have sections that come apart? Then kit is very versatile...
buy lots of poly cement though i ran out of that and finnished some bits off with super glue and very now and then one of the top bits breaks off.

If you've not seen the GW and pegasus stuff does work rather well together. 2 GW wall units=1 Pegasus. Mixing them side by side might be annoying but stacking them is great.
