Yeah so I scratch built built this eldar village to have a bit of xenos terrain. It gets boring fighting over imperal real estate.
I know they live on craft worlds! but i'm sure they have Outposts etc...

The only thing I want to make for this set is two web portal archs, but i'm not sure on the shape or materials yet. any ideas?
I've also put my eldar host on the board to show whats defending it!

What do you think?

I think the dawn of war computer game has poisoned a lot of people's minds as to what a typical eldar building should look like, but I think your stuff looks cool and really brings out the 'ancient' feeling of the eldar, perhaps on some long lost exodite world. Nice work!

Thanx guys,

Does dawn of war have eldar web portals in it... I could do with some referce Material.
Maybe when I have the Web portals it'll be a bit more eldar.
I don't really have a idea of what eldar buildings look like because i've not read much about their history/background info other than what's been in the old codexs and the new codex.

I don't know wht the function of this outpost is either maybe a pychic relay outpost
I'm also thinking about covering the tops in moss and vines to make it look like the eldar havn't been around in ages.. but then turn up to protect it.
I should probabily paint on runes too.

It's made of upside down pint glass's, a yard of ale glass, some microwave egg tupperware, a bowl, and the ends of a harddisk packaging...
Painted with 'no more nails' with a old wall brush to texture them.
The gems are falling off. they are stick-on jewlery, I need to source better Gems.
It was really cheap!

What is no more nails? Is it like filler?

The wife would kill me if I started using dishes for terrain. I
like the idea though.

Take object.

Attack to base.

Cover in filler.

Smoothen then texture with a wire brush.

I guess it's a UK product
It's like a really thick pasty Glue, I use it all the time.
They advertise it as somethink you could put up shelves with... never tried that though.

I think if I factored in the cost of the items glue paint static grass (probabily the most expensive bit)
the whole thing would still be under £20.

Excellent work on the outpost and the army. If I were to suggest anything it would be to lighten the building colors a little. Maybe make them slightly more "bone" in color. The gem shapes seem a bit off.. maybe make some teardrop shapes in GS and then paint the gems? Either way... Great stuff!!!! It would be awesome to play against that army on the outskirts of your Eldar outpost. Thumbs up!

That's exactly the first thing I thought when I looked at the pictures. To be honest they don't really scream Craftworld to me, but they still fit the graceful Eldar aesthetic. And there is a simplicity or minimalism to them that really looks like it could fit with what we know of the Exodite ethos. I can easily imagine the Exodite equivalent of a bone-singer coaxing these structures out of the earth like growing plants.

And it all looks nicely functional for game use too, although I would worry about what happens if the tower falls over.

Things that I think would really make this terrain stand out if I was making it

Some ruined buildings
A "World Spirit" mound
meshing of the natural environment more tightly with the buildings
Something covered in indecipherable runes
A statue or memorial to an Eldar Mythic hero, perhaps damaged, perhaps not
The remains of an Ad Mech explorator camp, where the humans have all been mysteriously disappeared and their equipment has been ignored like so much backwards junk

@Legoburner: Why do you think dawn if war has poisoned the aesthetics of eldar players?

Looking good, I love the how the army fits in the terrain that good.

Perhaps my language was too strong I just mean that there has never a huge amount of Eldar architecture (mainly imperial and ork from GW's studio for 40k), and so dawn of war got to push a lot of their ideas for Eldar building design on everyone. I would assume that a fair few people who have played dawn of war might think of that style architecture for Eldar bases in general now. I could of course be way off but thought I'd suggest it as a possibility as it is certainly what I think of when considering general Eldar structures.

Good suggestions guys, I'm going to finnish this stuff off this month, i'll post some photos when it's done.

I need to find out what the 'world spirit mounds' are?
Green stuff icons and the statue are good ideas
maybe a crystal seers garden sorta thing...?

The eldars blue is shadow grey then spacewolf grey with a watered down blue wash/glaze over the top
tidy up with some black ink and chaos black
then the guns are bubonic brown, flesh wash and bleach bone highlight
the black bits are black...

I think your terrain looks freakin awesome. real insperation for the board I am about to build, only im going with a tau setup. I really like the way it matchs up with your army too! I would go with covering it in moss though to go with the idea that it was abandoned at one point. If the jems are falling off that would be cool too especially if the leave a spot on the building. put them on the bass like they fell off the wall and it will add to the run down look.

Nice! The tower is particularly great, as it has the most graceful form of them all. The more squat yet still rounded forms of the egg-thingies and the huts made of packaging give it all the more practical exodite feel.

An exodite world is a great battlefield setting, as the Craftworld troops (particularly Biel-Tan) spend quite a lot of time defending the exodite/maiden worlds from incursion by other races.

And moss and vines partially covering some of the buildings (not just the ruined ones) would be a good touch.

As for a World Spirit node, I seem to recall reading some fluff somewhere that made them seem like dolmens, similar to stonehenge... but also like bones growing out of the ground. If you made a circle of things that look like standing stones but also like the tips of much larger objects buried beneath the ground, that would be a good start (maybe curved, like rib bones poking out?). Build an altar-ish piece for the center of the ring, and you've got a nice setup. You might want to base the "stones" individually to give you greater flexibility in positioning.

And a spirit host would be the perfect defenders for such a site, as the World Spirit is a planet-bound version of an infinity circuit. If exodites have Wrath-constructs, that's where they would draw spirits from.

Great work, Panic- score one for the exodites!

Yeah, like a few other people, my first thought was an exodite world. You could convert up some exodite-looking troops to go along with it. Looks really good though.

Hey Panic -

In answer to your DoW question: yes, the game does have webway portals. There's an image here: http://wiki.reliccommunity.com/Webway_Gate, and links to the rest of the buildings they modeled on the lower part of the page if you're interested.

Really interesting idea, and a good use of found objects (okay, 'good' may be the wrong adjective. 'Creative' is probably better. 'likely to get you thrown out of the house by the missus' better still).

I haven't seen the Dawn of War buildings (have a 5-month old, not living under a rock), but these look like they could be great for an exodite/Maiden world settlement. May want to consider mossing them up; giving them that ivy-covered look.

And if they don't work for Eldar, they certainly would work as a village of white Martians...

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I think this would look better as kroot structures myself. Though they could be eldar, as the sensors, entrance and air circulation stacks of an underground shelter or bunker complex.

None of the structures appear habitable of themselves, even as hovels.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
