So I've introduced my two brothers into 40k. I thought about doing this before but they seemed too young. But that was a while ago and after the new AOBR boxed game came out, I figured the time was right.
I also figured this could also be a cool thing to blog.
I'll try and keep you guys upto date with their progress in the hobby.


So I gave them a copy of the game, a tray of my old paint, some new brushes, glue, a copy of white dwarf and a pair of codexs.
I also threw in some ork lootas to even the starter armys out.

Emmet (12) picked ORKs and this made Colm (10) more than happy as he wanted marines!
3hours later we were still sitting around happily putting the armys together.
There was so much info to pass on, why Orks outnumber marines and what a dreadnought is.
They have so much cool stuff to learn huh>? not just a new army but a whole new game world.

So at the end of day one they had pretty much made most of the models, just few orks and the ork lootas to finnish.

So I'm going to hang out with them again soon (Wednesday) and show them how to paint their first models.
I'll also be showing them around Dakka, and hopefully they will come here with alot of their questions.

Seriously though, good job bringing your brothers into the hobby.

I helped my younger siblings start painting and such when they were about that age as well.

My brother is now a fullblown Ork warlord, and my sister is totally into Skaven, so it´s all good.

My son was the same way this past weekend when we cracked open the AoBR set he got for his birthday. He's had exposure to 40k since I picked it up for the second time last year and is very familiar with eldar and necrons, but knew almost nothing about the other armies in the 40K verse. Now we're industriously painting the marines as Ultras and building a second MEQ army for my to play with. At least he'll have his options when he's old enough to buy 40k with his own money!

It is always great to bring the young into table top gaming. It is such a great experience. IMO much more rewarding that video gaming.

I always like to see new faces in the gaming community so good work on bringing them in. I just hope you instill in them a love for the modeling aspect as much as the gaming aspect of the hobby.

I thought about that, it's one of the reasons I sweetened the Ork deal with the lootas box.
They have had a few days to read their codexs and get to know their armies.

Emmets really happy with the Orks, he said he likes the stories.
Colms really happy with Space Marines (he's finnished reading his codex already... haha... new one next month!)

ah, to be a fresh faced kid again... just excited to have some cool models and the prospect of beating the tar out of a brother/sister or friend. Its always exciting to bring someone new in and watch them go through the same thing for the first time.

today Emmet and Colm came to my house to make/add some new Scouts and Ork Bikers to their armys
We assembled these models with about a hour to spare, so I decided to give a demo game.
I picked two forces and placed three objective markers to fight over

OrKs
Troops: Boyz
10 Boyz 9 with Choppa & Sluggas and 1 with Big Shoota plus Nob choppa and slugga
Troops: Boyz
10 Boyz 9 with Choppa & Sluggas and 1 with Big Shoota plus Nob choppa and slugga
Elite: Lootas
4 Lootas plus Mekboy with Rokkit Launcha (x1)
Total Cost: 242

Space Marines
Troops: Scout Squad
Heavy Bolter (x1) Sergeant with Bolt Pistol; Close Combat Weapon
Troops: Tactical Squad
Flamer (x1); Missile Launcher (x1) Sergeant with Bolter
Total Cost: 236

Turn one:
Orks Lootas kill three scouts
Marines take up possitions
a missile sails across the board and kills two lootas they hold their nerve.

Turn two:
Orcs claim two objectives
Marines kill 2 Orks
the other combat squad runs towards their objective
Scouts kill two orks

Turn three:
Lootas kill 1 marine on the hill
the marines assault the Orks and kill 1 boy... and the orks flee! giving the obective to the marines
Colm is holding two objectives and Emmet holding one objective.

The game got called short at the end of turn 3, Dad arrived to pick up the boys and Heros was starting in 15mins!!!
First blood to the Space Marines (Hurr!) although there should have been two more turns... it was just a demo game.

Colm so far has painted his tactical squad and the dreadnought.
Emmets so far has painted 7 boys.
I rushed the photos of these at the end, good work i think.

Whooo, loads of models painted there. Kudos on this project man, great job getting them so well into the hobby.

And be sure to compliment them on their painting skills.At the rate these two are improving, they´re going to make far older painters embarrased soon.

then the WarBoss swings, and kills all 5 Terminators!

Ork cunning kicks in and the kopters turbo boost within 3" of the SM objective

A few good SportsMan ship points goes to Colm who didn't protest too much when his entire Terminator Squad was killed by the Ork Warboss.

Emmet got the win, But Colm managed to kill the Warboss in the end...
