So here's the long and the short of it.

The short: I want to create/convert and awesome looking scout sergeant and I want your input Dakka!

The Long: This idea came about after one particular epic 1000pt game my friend and I played. This was shortly after 5th ed. came out but not before the new SM codex.

Anyways, what happened was my squad of CC scouts (BP + CCW) charged a squad of Chaos marines. A few wounds were dealt to each and then my opponent's Chaos Sorceror charged into the fray. (BTW, the sorceror had just turned my 150+ pt Chaplain into a spawn, so I was kind of pissed) Scouts fell back, shot, and charged back in again. They suceeded in the following rounds in wiping out the Chaos marines. The sorceror killed most of them but was cut down by the las remaining scout, the sergeant. The same sergeant went on to run back to an objective and win me the game.

So, what I would like is some suitable name and ranks for the Scout Sergeant, (ie Staff Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant etc.) as well as some conversion ideas, wargear ideas and how I should kit his new scout squad.

I would like to keep him more focused on CC but I realize with the WS/BS nerf that it might not be the most viable option.

I know, I know, I don't ask for much.....

Master Sergent Adelphos

Give him a power weapon and melta bombs.
Modeling ideas.. maybe give him an unusual power weapon, like a power mace or power axe. To make him stand out.

Oh and sergents have WS4 BS4, so, even if his squad is only average in combat, at least HE is a badass

Lol, I missed that. That's good though, he needs to be a badass.

I would kit him with power weapon/meltabombs but to acknowledge his background, i would use a librarian's, or sorcerer's, force weapon as his power weapon to say he took if from his fallen enemy (your buddy's IC) in battle.

There we go, pissed off scout sarge!

Probably angry that he's served in the scout company for 87 years and has not moved up to full brother yet.

@ Yojimbo: Dude, that drawing is exactly what I'm looking for! I'm going to use that now as a reference! So, power weapon and melta bombs it is.

I also really like Master Sergeant, but I think I'll throw Scout in there too.

Still having trouble with the name. Have a few ideas though and please feel free to add you're own!

Even as a Chaos player, that's the best idea ever. Whenever I envision a "Sarge" type character, I always picture a cigar. Cigar = badass.

thats because Sgts are just bad asses in general. its that whole mystical awesomeness thing going on. i dunno about a cigar, maybe a big scar on his cheek or somthing. but yea i think we all had a few games before where Sgts for whatever reason went out WAY beyond what they should.

Sounds like a pretty cool game too. I love it when things like that happen in game. It looks lost, but then you get the right roles and some good luck.

@ Breotan: Love the idea, but not sure about the model. The Catachan Lt. seems to have some wierd visor or sunglasses thing on his face. Never seen a Space Marine smoking, either, though it would make it original.

@KingCracker: Definitely going to use the scar idea. Really seems to fit the character

@Sicarius: Krielos added to the top 5 names list. And yes it was a pretty cool game. It's in the top 3 on my list of most awesome things to happen in a 40k game

I think everyone thinks of Cigar smoking badass war heros, it's from 2 movies.

Arnie in Predator:

And Apone from Aliens:

Strickly speaking, I'm sure it's a no-no in the Space Marines to indulge in such frivlious activities as smoking cigars. (have you read the new codex? they only have like 30min a day to themselves, everything else is training) But I think our Scout Sarge can be an exception.

You do realise that naming him Sergeant Johnson has now obliged you to arm him with either a sniper rifle or a lascannon, right?

Awesome I have to ask now, what are the other two?

'They are my Space Marines; And They Shall Know No Fear' - The Emperor of Mankind

The other 2 most awesome things to happen are as follows: (I also plan to make conversions of these as well)

1) Back in 4th ed: My space marine captain jumps out of a Landraider and charges up toward a IG command squad. The Command squad promptly opens fire with lasguns and plasma guns. The captain takes 2 wounds from the plasma and fails his armor save for a lasgun shot, but, he makes his 6+ bionics save! Next round, the squad fires on him again and the two plasma gunners die. The captain goes on to single-handly destroy 2 Leman Russ tanks. After that, he goes and charges towards the commissar, who, at this point is the only remaining member of that command squad who is alive. The commisar kills the captain with a laspistol shot.

2) Kill team game. SM Kill team vs Necron Brutes. All my vets are shot to death with the exception of one. There are still about 10 Necrons left. The vet manages to survive in CC with all of them long enough to force a Phase Out. He made something like 14 - 15 3+ armor saves in a row!

1) Make the Vet's armor all patched up. Cut bits out of it, and put strips of plasticard over it. Then, add in a few necron heads as trophies. He'll look great.

2) Obviously the laspistol incapacitated him for the game, but it couldn't have been enough to kill him. I'd do him with a bionic arm and leg, and possibly an eye also. Or you could just make him blind in one eye (just paint one pupil). That must have been the lazer-pointer wound that took him out of the fight.

3) The Scout Sergeant: Oooh, I like the idea of him using the sorcerer's force weapon. That would look very cool.

If you mod the head, he will look very characterful. Add in some side-burns and some facial hair.

Y'know. you could make that into one character. It could be his story. He was the last member of a veteran squad who single handedly fought off 10 necrons. The captain of his company was killed in the same fight, and for his efforts of mortal bravery, he was ade captain. And then as Captain he goes on to fight the rebels and kills all but the Commisar, who blinds him in one eye with a Laspistol shot.

That sounds pretty cool. I'd go with that.
