from what i know, the story is that, if the emperor is finally allowed to die, the golden throne being shutdown, then his spirit will become a being called the star child, somewhat of a god that is more powerful than all the chaos gods combined, and thus saving humanity...at least thats what i know of it, anyone else have info?

Even if he were to be reborne as the star child, the loss of the astronomicon is a huge problem. obviously all the war-fleets in the galaxy would find the lack of direction disturbing. something like a new age of strife hoping along ...
basically, history repeating itself. except that the chaos legions already exist.
And I also agree on Anung´s point. THAT would be a problem. And I doubt that the custodes would be able to hold the palace for a very long time against mass-deamonic assault.

i read a lot on lexicanum and it basically says that the emperor as a man fathered many children. Each have a particular trait of his (immortality, immense psychic potential yadda yadda). There is a group (cant remember their name) who are trying to locate all his children and if they are all brought together at the moment of the emperors death (they too are ritually sacrificed beside the golden throne I believe) then the emperor will be reborn. Apparently the inquistion is trying to bring this heresy under heel and sweep it quietly under the mat. I think its just unsubstantiated fluff now though. Lexicanum is great for all this stuff.

in terms of the daemonic assault, maybe the GK have a legend of the endtime, when the emperor requires their final sacrifice and help, and the entire GK chapter/group, decends upon terra and forms up to defeat the daemonic horde, battling through them, destroying vast swathes of daemons and eventually closing the gate but only once all of their blood has been spilled, as a sacrifice of psykers....i reckon that would be a cool story

the illuminati are the group awaiting his return. he will be born as a man, not a child.
It is believed that his mere birth will bolster mankind enough to defend itself.
he also has bloodline decendants called the sensei. they are essentially the polar opposite of anything chaos and are the emperors champions while he is unborn.
from inquisitor...
The Illuminati are the most secret of secret societies within the Imperium. They are men who have been possessed by daemons and who, through shear strength of will, managed to banish and destroy the daemon within themselves. The Illuminati have mastered the Chaos within themselves and are, along with the Eldar Harlequin Solitaires, the only beings allowed free access to the Black Library of the Eldar, and all of its terrible lore. In addition, the Illuminati have infiltrated all of the organizations of the Imperium. Even the deepest orders of the Inquisition are not closed to them. Even the Imperial will is manipulated by the Illuminati as they see fit.
The Illuminati battle Chaos where they find it, but they all share a common plan: they mean to rejuvenate the Emperor, using the Sensei (see below). This plan would never be revealed by the Illuminati. An Inquisitor Illuminatus would willingly torture a brother Illuminatus to death to keep the secret, and he would willingly be tortured to death to avoid revealing it.
Which brings us to the Sensei…
The Sensei are the descendants of the Emperor (some of them, anyway) and they share his immortality, but where he is a psyker of unparalleled power, they are psychic blanks. The Sensei possess no psychic powers and are totally immune to the effects of psychic powers. They have the ability to channel warp energy directly to cause some amazing effects.
The Emperor has no knowledge of the Sensei (he cannot read their minds) and they have no knowledge of their kinship with him. In fact, the Sensei do not even know of their own natures until they are contacted by an experienced Sensei or Illuminatus, who teaches them the use of their powers.
Once a Sensei is awakened, he generally forms a war-band to battle Chaos (though a few become Grey Sensei: among the most evil of the servants of darkness). They prepare for the final battle, which they believe will be a Ragnarok against the powers of darkness. However, in this the Sensei have been deceived by the Illuminati.
In fact, the plan of the Illuminati is to sacrifice the Sensei to the Emperor at the moment he finally breaks. When this happens, the Illuminati will "feed" the Sensei to Him as he has fed upon countless billions of psykers. This will cause the Emperor to rejuvenate, and the new Sensei-Emperor will lead humanity to its final evolution. The Illuminati dare not reveal this plan to either the Sensei (lest they turn on the Illuminati) or the Emperor (lest he lay down his burden too soon, before all is ready).

An interesting thing about the Sensei in the old fluff was the fact that they could turn Chaos champions away from following Chaos. Upon leaving the worship of Chaos because of a Sensei's intervention, the champion would become fully human again, with no marks or mutations.

I always thought that the Star Child was the 5th god of chaos, only rather than being based on the depravity and negative emotions of the universe, it would be born out of the sacrifice, and the whole "needs of the many...." type stuff that the emperor *sort of* embodies. Therefore when the corpse god finally dies, his great sacrifice would give birth to a new god. Like how the DE gave birth to slaanesh. One of my friends recently told me that the starchild was actually one of the final c'tan's. That it was buried on Mars and is actually the Omnissiah and the guarded source of the Mechanicum's power. All in all, I've never seen any official cannon on the subject, but in keeping up with the books, it does seem as if the 40k universe may be drawing to some sort of conclusion/rebirth. What with the Macaroth's crusade (Abnett's books) Abbadon's preperation for another black crusade (BA Omnibus) and the possibilty of another hive fleet approaching (McNeil Smurf series.)

i think i can help you get all the facts strait . the starchild is in fact acording to some already exits as part of the emporor that split off from his mortal shell and now fights the chaos gods in the warp while his physical body maintains the astromicon and such. also it belived that the starchild is curently working on reincarnateing while his physical body the thing that stops him from being reborn deteriorates. the illuminati are curently rounding up the sensi to sacrifice to the emporor to literaly restore his body just as malkidor was able to use his last bit of life to bring the emporor back to conchusnes long enough to dictate his final commands. the sensi are the decendants of the emporor so if they are imagen their phyker ability probably alpha plus or even above, so if malkidorecould bring a dead or very near dead back to a few munites of concusnes then what could a thousand or more equivelents or beters of malkidor do. also the sensi are imortal like the emporor they do not age past maturety and the emporor has been liveing many lives until he needed to slip of to start a new one so he would need to appear normal and that includes having a wife and kids. so think about it if that guy was around since 8000 B.C. so how many kids would you have if every 50 years you played dead moved on and got a new wife and had more kids, thats alot of kids. another teory is that when the emporor dies all that he is will transfer into the warp and he will either beat the snot out of chaos or he will be reborn and lead humanity in the flesh again. it all depends on who you ask.

I just broke out my old ROC book that talks about the Sensei and Star Child. Here's an interesting tid bit from the section on creating a Sensei warband:
"The Star Child represents the human part in the unity of the warp, the flow of psychic energy which permeates all living things, humanity included. The Starchild is able to reward Sensei champions in a way similar to the other powers."
It goes on to say that the Starchild is a caring and humane power and his champions are not subject to whimsical behavior from him.
Earlier in the chapter the book states that the Star Child is in fact a part of the Emperor's soul that did not dissolve back into the warp. The soul awaits the day when the cries for a new savior will strengthen it once again.
To quote the original fluff on the Star Child from the Lost and the Damned,
" Meanwhile, the soul of the Emperor was merely a potential, a child awaiting birth, the Star Child."
Sensei radiate harmony and confidence and as such are largely invisible to the Chaos powers. They never suffer perils of the warp because of this.

IIRC, the back of the 4th ed rulebook had a story proclaiming the Star Child was the invention of a chaos cult (Tzeentch?). Since I only had the BoM rulebook I can't confirm, but I do know that was the line put forth in one GW book early 4th edition.
Edit: it may have been in the Iquisitor book.

Dark Angels Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries
|
The way I understood it, The Emperor *is* the star child.
Some fluff I read a while back basically said that is the dark age of technology, Terra's best and most gifted shamans and psykers etc. decided that humanity was on it's way out and the only way to save it would be for a mighty warrior to unite them and save them from themselves. They then decided that based on the fact they had been reincarnated many times before (don't know how that comes into it) that they would all take part in a mass suicide. They do this then are all reborn in one united being which we came to know as The Emperor.
Cypher comes into it because he knows something, probably to do with that C'Tan phase knife he carries around because to my knowledge it was never explained where he got that. His idea is that he's taking the broken sword he carries (either the Lion Sword or the Luther Sword) to Terra, somehow he's going to get past the Adeptus Custodes, get right up to the Golden Throne, kill the emperor with it which will reforge it and also force The Emperor to "regenerate". Nobody actually knows whether he does know about his regeneration ability but I'm pretty much rooting for him...
The only thing is, when The Emperor does "Regenerate" the Astronomicon will go out and Daemons will flood Holy Terra, regardless of the fact that he's coming back.
Of course there's nothing to say that once He does come back he couldn't just banish them all back to the warp, but then with The Emperor back the End Times begin and Humanity basically dies...
Lovely Happy ending for you there...
