What would you proxy these miniatures as for Imperial Guard? I got a cadian battleforce in the post, but I won't have a fieldable army unless I proxy some minis so I dusted off some old Ral Partha figs. What do you think? I'm leaning towards either veteran squad or platoon command.

Command or storm troopers. Those were the first things in my mind, then a t-rex popped in.... dunno where I was going with that thought

That's good... I got another 3 squads of these I can use as such.

But don't you think these make better storm troopers, with the carapace and rebreathers?

The first lot could be used as CCS bodyguards (with SMGs, counting as las pistols) or Stormtroopers. The second lot look a bit bulky even for carapace armour. You might be able to proxy the second lot as Ogryns

Someone else on these boards has done exo-armour Vostroyans to count as ogryns and the result was rather neat.

Those are nice minis, lots of character.

Yeah, Ral Partha's sculptors were pretty good in their heyday. Now the only US retailer that I know of is Iron Wind Metals (they also are the only US based manufacturers of these), and their molds are the same ones Ral Partha had before them. I think they are in need of some resculpts, or at least new molds.

Anyway, yeah the 2nd set has on Power Armor technically. I'll post pics of the other Soviet-style squad I planned for storm troopers tomorrow.

IMO, the first set looks like a Senior Officer with bodyguards, or even a Senior Officer with Veterans. That's almost a competent CCS.
I'd play against the second lot as Stormtroopers; I think they're cool! It may be a bit bulky for carapace, but you can invent some fluff about that and get going with it, like I did for my exo-suit Ogryns.

Man I need to paint those. I've been converting HF vets of late, and painting up officers. A guard army is a labour of love man!

Ok, for the last set of models pictured, I want to put plasma weaponry on them and make them MEQ killers. What is the maximum amount of plasma weaponry available to either the veterans or the stormtroopers? That will determine what they will be proxied as.

Max spec weapons is 3 in a vet squad.
