At £125 its not cheap, but at least its (a) cheaper than GW's offer at £150 and (b) you don't have to paint/flock it yourself!

And there are no stupid skull pits and immoveable hills!

Would be nice to see it layed out.

This looks like a really good product. I am one of those unfortunates who has neither the time nor the artistic inclination to make my own board and hence the RoB board seemed like a good idea for me personally (although I was somewhat miffed at having to paint it myself). This seems like an excellent replacement, although it's a shame they havent got any pictures of it for preview...

Yeah, and to know what it's made of. If each tile is around 1/10" thick, including flock and sand (?)...

Could be cool! Need more info!

Loads of pics are being sent to us today from the manufacturer. Ive dropped the pic and informed them that they need to provide some generic images.

I do have a link or 10 to some images of the things in use for some very large apoc battles

Well, it says vinyl tiles... this sound suspiciously like someone's flocked some flooring tiles. I'd be a little worried about these curling up over time.

As everyone else says... I'd like photos and more information first; though they do sound like an interesting alternative to the GW offering.

It does sound like an intriguing product. If there is a way of locking the tiles together so that it forms a single 6x4 board, rather than remaining as 24 seperate tiles that shift apart when someone leans on them is my main concern. My current board rest on a dining table that is around 5x3 so there is 6" of overlap around the edge on a standard board. Unless the tiles can lock reasonably securely something like this would be useless without a backing board, which for me would defeat the object as I'd then have to find somewhere to store that!

In fact for me, the ready-flocked nature of the board isn't so much of a draw (although it is a reasonable plus and gives value over one I have to do myself), more the mudularity and the storability. If someone produced 12" (or 24") square modular tiles that locked together in someway even with no texture or painting on them, I'd be all over them like white on rice.

Yeah, enjoy your flocked and drybrushed flooring tiles for £125. And at only 1x1 foot, you'll still need a full 6x4 board to support them, so what's the point?

I'll just buy the Realm of Battle from Maelstrom Games, fill in the skull pits, not care about the hills like normal people and then paint and flock it as usual in the way I want.

That's the crux! I like many of the gaming mats on the market, they present the same problem for a 5x3 dining room table. I like the idea of wayland, however; they are clearly trying to present a better, more affordable product than GW's board. I'd like to see photographs of the wayland board.

Sadly, the Realm of Battle issued by Maelstrom is only sold within the UK, no overseas shipping.

How's that phrase go again? A 'something' and his money are soon parted? Can't remember what the 'something' part was...

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

My very thoughts though you need at least 4'x2' sections to fit on a table without support.

Yeah its those 'somethings' who can only think of little else but buying from Maelstrom, poor lost souls.

I'll have you know that I bought something from Weyland Games the other day. Sure, the only reason I did was because Maelstrom didn't stock the item in question, but that's not the point!

Just the other day I thought to myself, "You know what, the Dakkadakka community would be so much better if only if there was more halfpenny sarcasm and tiny little factions of small-minded gits squabbling among themselves." And lo, it came to pass.

I find that unfair. After all, I hate each and every one of you, I make no exceptions for faction affiliation.

Can't we just all get along?

Anyway.. as mentioned previously more pics will be with us shortly. As with any product, not everyone needs one, or wants one but its a convenient way of dealing with scenery.

It does look good in action so to speak and is far easier to store and ship than the larger skull covered object.

I love the comment I found on one review... "It's heavy like a wetsuit and smells like the bilge tank on a hot summer day." Given army cases/packs that abound, it seems like this new-style board would store well with your figures.

I just say that after many many years working on retail stores I learn to never trust a package. If i just see the photos of the box but don't know what the product inside really looks like then I become suspicious.

The fact that Google has nothing on the manufacturer "Expert Terrain" also doesn't inspire confidence.

I maintain that we should have Dakka-sponsored clans/gangs that make such affiliation official and point it out under our use names. That would make the hate so much easier. Agamemnon, you'd have one, too. You'd just be the only member.
