Some of these pics are blurry because of camera shake. Some seem to be out of focus because the camera has locked onto the wrong item.

Deal with blur by putting the camera on a tripod or other steady mount.

You can tackle focussing error by setting the camera to central point focus mode.

If you're using a compact camera, can I suggest buying a Gorillapod tripod and using the timer function - that way you're not touching the camera when the shutter is open & thus elliminates camera shake.

Thanks for the suggestions . the pics were takens with my phone hence shaky and not quite focused.

I posed them the same so that the 2 boys would get the same model but for their idividual armies (Hence no fighting over who got the better model)

I hated painting that chaos marine don't like black, don't like gold and the horns were a nightmare. I also think spending ages on the ultramarine first made it less fun.

Nice looking marines.

Did you use the flash? Personally I would avoid it, its the photographic equivalent of throwing bleach on your models. Complete annihilation of the paint job.

Also, When snapping the image, try putting your camera on a couple of second delay (on a tripos) to get rid of any camera shake from your hand pressing the button. As I have a mediocre camera (not saying you do) this has worked wonders for me. Something to try, anyway.

Nice figs. The camera isn't ruining your painting.

One of the tips I got awhile back was not to take pictures up close. If you have a high enough resolution camera, take the picture from further back, then crop it after words. Especially if you are going to post online and the image is going to be shrunk anyways. This helps with the focus, something to do with focal depth and when you are up close with macro it's possible for the front of the mini to be in focus but the back not to be in focus. If you are further back the whole model will be in focus.

Other tip, the tripod, well covered already.

No flash / use a light box / high exposure. Take a small cardboard box, cut wholes in 3 sides. drap a thin piece of paper over the top. put a lamp pointed down through the paper. get a non-shiny off white or gray background in the box (I just used a piece of gray cardboard) put camera on tripod, increase exposure (just a little, may not even be necessary if you got enough light) use the self-timer. If you are putting it in Dakka's gallery, it will correct the colours (fairly well) and you get pro pictures using just random stuff that is lying around.

You can see the evolution of my photo taking abilities in my P&M log. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/261941.page
There might be other pointers people gave me along the way I'm forgetting.

I Can't update the pics i'm afraid. I gave the models as presents. One of the reasons i was gutted i haven't got any better pics. Maybe if they read this thread they will oblige.

My wifes camera takes better photos and i can do that from further away and still get a good res. But i haven't taken any pics for a while as a new baby takes up a lot of time.

I will have to finish my chaos squat in exo armour painted in space wolves colours.
