And now, for something completely different.

For scale purpose, that's almost four feet long.

Ooh, now that looks interesting....I'm presuming all those cool looking girders have been designed and laser-cut by you.

Either a zeppeln or a retro rocket-ship...I'll go for the first as more likely....

Well you don't do things by halfs do you!

Looking brilliant. What you going to use for a skin?

In the bad old days I used to make R/C planes with me Dad, and we used special paper and dope, just like they used circa. WWII, Would give you a very realalistic look, as it tightens across the strutts?

No skin, this is an 'ahhht' project for a local Brewery. So, it'll hang from the ceiling with all the girders and beams exposed.

I'm not dead, just resting. Here, have a project of mine, a prototype for a possible series of tabletop wargaming mega-structures.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Hope you've been enjoying your rest.

Big ol' buildings are always cool. Are you considering the possibilities of connecting walkways between structures?

I wouldn't call it "rest", unless "rest" is a euphemism for "nine month depressive state".

I am considering many options:

Walkways.

Ruined/semi-ruined structures.

Structures with internal flooring.

Super-mega-structures (three or four feet tall, or more! Stackable!)

Supporting an 'air' level of acrylic three feet above the table, and then extending the buildings on top, to allow true "air combat" on a 40K scale.

Designing the buildings (magnets, velcro) to be taken apart for easy storage and reconfiguration.

--

Please, feel free to fire comments at me:

1) Suggestions.

2) Would you actually use such mega-structures?

3) If I post a structure, how much would you pay for it?

4) Would you pay a premium for pre-painted? If so, how much?

Thanks.

Good stuff, so have you got a laser cutter then?

I would use it in a game (and have used similar in my last mega bat rep) but I'm unsure what I might pay for it.

I think pre-painting is interesting and the cost would obviously be a big factor.

As an addition I think landing pads, roof top is a no brainer but if there's little topple factor, how about clip in ones extending from the side like a bracket fungus type thing..

Wonderful to see you posting again Brian, it's been far too long!

Great job on the tower.

I think for the kind of gaming I do, 18" to 2" tall would be the maximum, though I really like the stacking idea. We've used some mass produced bunkers at an FLGS to stack in various ways to make modern "hab units" and it really works well because you can arrange them in a variety of different ways to make different looking structures.

Would definitely be interested in walk-ways and ruins w/floors as well as in-tact buildings. Would be willing to pay a bit more for a basic paint-job... just enough so you could call it decently painted and field it as-is, but not so much that it would drive the cost up significantly (say over 25%). I'm thinking a base coat plus some simple airbrushing to give it some depth & character. The less expensive the cost upgrade the better.

Well, that's a euphemism that I can well understand It's good to see you're getting some interest back now.

I think walkways and balconies would be important with such high buildings to increase playing surfaces - but then again, I haven't played for many, many moons and was always biased towards multi-level gaming back when I did.

The perspex aerial floor is a really interesting idea, although three feet sounds a little high to me, feels like it might be a litle awkward to move stuff around at that height above the table....

The building is cool as, and from my perspective just now I'm all about the Prepaints walkways, particularly slightly wider ones for truly terrifying high up battles, would be neat. Also, great to have you back, buckaroo.

A BS of 1 means a 1 in 6 chance of hitting. (6)
A BS of 2 means a 2 in 6 chance of hitting. (5+)
A BS of 3 means a 3 in 6 chance of hitting. (4+)

And so on.

This has been your 40K history lesson for today.

As I read through the book that got me into 40k, back in 1987, I am reminded of how SMART Rick presumed his players were. Of course, this was also meant to be a game primarily played under the watchful eye of a GM. Such a different world!

Ah, the nostalgia! also back when the game was more a skirmisher game of small units, I need to track down a copy of that old book!

And so, with the new year, I have a new focus. My goal is to run 40k the way it was meant to be played, with cool scenarios, neat terrain, and painted miniatures. Doesn't seem like much of a challenge, but with the tournament-dominated world of American Tabletop (this includes ALL tabletop, mind you, even X-Wing, Infinity and others...) people are not introduced to 'the other side of the fence'.

And that's where these bugs come into play. Picked up in a swap before Christmas, I've spent the past week working on them (and the two stands of trees). The trees were the grey plastic version, but a little spraypaint goes a long way to restoring their true colours.

The bugs were primed white and ink washed. WITH TWENTY-SEVEN YEAR OLD INKS. Yeah, damn straight those Ral Partha paint pots still work. F-U, Citadel.

Anyways. Enjoy my bugs, ready to pop out and annoy the hell out of some players.

Is it just me, or did people miss me so much in my two year absence that they all started bugs?

Haha, nice to know I was missed lol.

Love the work, and, well, damn they are bright. Tbh its nice to see people take big leaps with bugs colour schemes really, too many play it safe. that is a compliment, I swear...

I'm attempting to sort out a list of hilarious proportions for my bugs, which will take a little time to gather the parts, but its really for gaming fun tbh.
