So when I joined Dakka a few weeks back, I told everyone that we'd been working on a Gargant and would put up photos. Well, it wasn't a lie, we've finally got around to taking some photos and have got them online!

It must be said we've been working on this for a few months now, we've been held up by work, by the fact it's harder to do stuff in a group and by Tom breaking his hand (he keeps the Gargant at his house).

Anyway, I've got some photos ready, let's have a look and I'll explain a little.

This is the Gargant from the front, with it's glowy eyes O'Doom. It's not even close to done, but the belly gun has been placed and the plating is coming together.

The Gargant from the rear, the engine room has been started and we'll have more of a swarm of Grotz and Ork Boyz eventually.

The Engine room close up (and a view of Tom's new scar)

Head front and back (GorkaMorka sized Orks dancing on his bonce).

The Right Arm and Shoulder (with Doug adding comedy)

As keen eyed people will no doubt have noticed, our Gargant has DANTE scrawled across the front. As you may (or may not) have guessed, we have a Commander Dante figure which will be attached to chains and hung from the front of the Gargant. This was one of Tom and Scott's ideas, however they seem to have some form of insane plan, so the rest of us are rolling with it.

The front has two big holes with hinged doors. Inside will be compartments for da boyz, the doors will swing down and they'll leap out into the fray. Hopefully over the top of the twin deff rollas (either side of the belly gun), not on top of them, otherwise they'll not be good for much except fertilising the ground.

More will follow, hopefully we'll eventually get started on painting the thing.

That thing looks great. Love all the little guys "working" on it. I'm interested to see this Dante character. Really nice patch work on the body, too.

Really like the idea of using ball-point pens as missiles on the right arm. Might have to steal that.

@Pen-Rockets - This was the idea of our friends Scott and James. Scott and I thought that some kind of minigun inspired multi-barrelled Dakka cannon would be a good idea, so Scott bought some cheap pens to use for gun barrels. After sawing off the tips (and getting black ink everywhere!) they decided the Dakka cannon just wasn't big enough, and that what it really needed was another gun on the side - hence the Rocket launcher. If you look closely, you'll see that a tiny Grot has somehow managed to get into one of the launch tubes. Of course, the Rokkits will be painted RED.

@Engine room - This was inspired by the back of the original Stompsmasher Epic Ork Gargant - if anyone can remember back to the early 90's. Its gonna have a Boss Mek, a boiler and a bunch of Grots shoveling coal into it...

@Little dudes all over - Yeah, this is what makes Orky things look more Orky! Since BishopGore took those photos, I've added a battlewagons worth of Orks and bits to it, so the thing will be crawling with Shoota Orks.

@Size - I can't remember how tall it is, although I did measure it. I think the massive Green plant pot which is the basis of the hull was 16" and its about 2" off the ground on a spin around serving tray thing. The head is about 4" so it should be about 22". Once we add the crows nest and flags/banners it'll look bigger too.

@Rules - We'll make it similar to the Stompa rules, except bigger, harder and with more guns. Instead of structure points, we might go for a complex damage table similar to the original Adeptus Titanicus Gargant rules - with different weapon destroyed results, crew casualties, fires etc...

This would make it much harder to balance in a fair way - It shouldn't really matter though as it'll probably only be used in Apocalypse games.

Just waiting until I get paid to buy the Forgeworld Flak Gun for the left shoulder:
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalog/flakk-gunstore.jpg

Any ideas that you guys think we should add to it?

I should point out that BishopGore is going to be Painter in Chief, as his Orks look excellent!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@Covenant - Hadn't realised it was you man! We'll have to take a photo of the Titan and the Gargant together - I reckon the Gargant will just about come up to the Titans chin - But then Ork Gargants are supposed to be short and squat - the Meks originally tried building them Ork shaped - with massive shoulders and little legs - but they just kept on falling over...

@Ramos Asura - Yeah I'd looked at the Gargant size chart when I was researching the Gargant and making planz. I think ours will be somewhere between a Great Gargant and a Mega Gargant in size. I'll measure it tonight when I get home from work...

Will definately check out the existing Gargant rules, although none of them are official. I think we'll have to rely on goodwill and people not minding if they get horribly stomped because they are playing in a game with a cool custom built model - the thing is gonna have TWO DEFFROLLAS on the front, which if I recall correctly is 2d6 S10 hits on anything it rams or tankshocks!

I like the idea of a gargant basically being a huge terrain piece with guns, with places for figs to move through out it - lots of ramps, etc. Very similar to my eventual ideas. Keep up the good work!

I think the Dante thing is going to be tough - not seeing how you can convert that mini to look decent. Might be better to use a plastic marine.

Thanks for the compliment Kestral

I've given the Dante model to our friend Amy to paint (as she is v good at painting marines). The original idea was a joke - my friend Scott found Dante in my bits box and asked me why I had him in a pile of Gargant bits. I jokingly said we were going to chain him to the front of the Gargant and from that point on, we decided to actually do it.

I like the idea of him being still alive, although Amy pointed out that you'd need a lot of chains to keep him there! We have some jewellery chains to use for this, and the model has already lost his left arm and weapon.

@Nailz94 - It was intended as a Great Gargant - but looking at the size comparison chart its mid-way between a Great and Mega Gargant in size...

Looking at the weapons and size I'd probably go for it being a great gargant. Ork sizes are never exact anyway, but I don't think it's got enough gunz or is quite big enough for a mega-gargant. Think i'd also say it could do with a base (if not planned already) already just to give it that little extra lift or it may look a little on the small size stood with based figures. Figure bases are only small but it's amazing how much bigger they make you think the models are. Just my opinion. It may not need a base - haven't seen it on a battlefield yet
