Hello all Dakkaites.

Our group is putting together a 40K campaign using the Planetary Empires as base and meaning to incorporate missions of Apocalypse, Planetstrike, Spearhead and all those other extra stuff into it. Since we all have unfinished army underway, we will use this campaign as means to finish our various armies along the way. This is what this blog will be about: we will tell you stories of the campaign as it goes on, but more importantly, we will post our progress of our armies as we finish stuff and play with them.

The campaign will start with small stuff, measily 500 point games. As we finish the small armies, we will add more points as time goes on, 750 points next, then 1000 points and so on, and so forth.

Our participants so far include:

Hammer - (me) - I will continue work on my Biggerised Space Wolf army. It's been standing on the self, unfinished, for months now, but this campaign gives me the opportunity (and encouragement) to continue (and finish) it!

Migsula - He has been rolling ideas as which army he will focus on this campaign. I will let him tell you more about that.

Northen - He also has a Biggerised Space Wolf army he's been working on.

Sickbunny - He has a ton of figures from Forge World that he will be working with. Expect either Deathcorps of Krieg or a Renegade army from him.

We still haven't finalized all the details of how we will play this campaign, but our first challenge is set; Build & Paint 500 point starter army. I think that's a clear enough goal to aim for.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
My army, as I said, will be Space Wolves. I actually have the first 500 points already built and I've even started painting them. Now it's time to finish them!

The 500 points will include a WGBL with 1 Fenrisian wolf as well as 2 x Gray hunter packs of 9 marines. So I need to paint 20 figures to be able to play.

To remind you of which army I have been working on, here's a pic:

16/March/10 Legion is dead - Long live the Legion! “ Tale of four gamers “

Migs is doing his Legion army for this one, the first list comprising of a Vendetta, One legionnaire, Some Veteran IG and a Sentinel.

Here's a quick write up on my motivation to go with the Legion:

So from the beginning this project altered my perception on many things to do with modeling. I used it as a canvas for my thoughts and experience and directions were I want to go and take my “art” or what ever one likes to call it.

There were times were the project felt overbearing and way too big an undertaking - but then having returned to my older projects, the gap is vast and absolute. The old stuff up to Jade Vessel feels like nice, well converted models, compared to the Legion, my portrayal of a vision set in the 40k Imagery that just happens to use modeling as a medium.

Yesterday I was off to pick up my Crescent Guard from storage, to use in our tale of four gamers story - but having spent a few minutes with the models - well I didn’t.

The Legion it is.

I’ve come to realize that the bulk of points in this army will be armor, something I love to paint and is fairly straightforward to put together. That significantly lessens the fear of not carrying through to gaming goals.

I’ve recently purchased the Imperial Armour modeling book, and coupled with everything I learned with the TWAR project, this should lead to interesting vehicles, and I plan to add a lot of narrative detail. A lot.

Tweaking the sand twists ready and adding the final weathering detail to the Vendetta next.

Stay tuned.

and a picture to freshen up your memories:

Can't wait to see what new stuff Migs comes up with for the Legion, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Wolves(from both) and whichever Sickbunny decides on.

I wanna see the maps and some Batreps!

My project is also going to be Space Wolf army, which is my all time favorite posse in 40k universe. With the new codex it's nice to see them back in the game. I used to own an SW army during 3ed but in 4ed they were some what "not so nifty". Now days the old army doesn't quite fill the standards anymore, so back to the drawing board (aka. bitz box).

I started this new army some time ago, but it hasn't quite builded up how I hoped it would, but now with the new codex and this joint venture project I hope to keep myself motivated.

Here's some of the stuff I got finished before putting them to hold

Next up finishing the first squad of GHs and building a second squad of them and some HQ choice, so that I can start playing.

As a side quest, I got the Fortress of redemption which I also hope to finish during this project.

Hope to see many of these great projects getting a frequent updates.

Jamo: Nice to see you here too
cheers

Good looking Space Wolves guys. It´s great to see how different your painting styles are, on the same "base concept".

Northen, your Wolves look very gritty, which I´ve come to like a lot myself. Did you stretch these at all, or are they normal sized Marines?

Great!

Now all the players have gathered here.

Our first challenge is to build/paint 500 points of troops (only 1 compulsory troop choise) and deadline in about 1 month.

Thanks Xan, indeed it's going to be interesting to see how Hammer and I will diiffer with our projects.

Xanthos wrote:Did you stretch these at all, or are they normal sized Marines?

Yes I did, here's a comparison pic. Need to take WIP pics with next patch.

Basic marines aren't that much stretched. I will propably go bit further with Wolf guard and characters.

Now to build up first 500p, more wolves, yarrrr....

Northen - remember to add bulk as much as possible with the stretching! Makes all the differences and is really easy with the wolves and all that fur and gak to hide the roughness.

northen may i ask where you streched the legs of your marines... its realy hard to tell and that is what makes them look so good... but i think you streched the upper legs... correct me if i'm wrong.
maybe you could post a pic without primer.

btw... do you guys already have your 500pts list figured out?

Loose notes on our first meeting:

Project will continue as follow,

250 points/month pace. Build more, get more to use. Build less, you'r toast.

First DL is 500 points for mid April.

At the beginnign, no mandatory 2 troops 1 HQ selection

Around August there's going to be "final battle".

Everybody gets 12 tiles from Planetary Empires for personal customization, which will later be build to represent the campaing map.

Campaing rules will be defined later, based mostly on Planetary Empires

Get started.

We had a great first Campaign meeting. With this amount of creativity in the group, I can tell you the planetary empires tiles alone will be something insane!!

I fully agree with this sentiment! Another thing which might be cool to include are wolf pelts instead of normal banners and such. Perhaps even try to include stolen Chaos great. Or...Imperial chain axes!

I changed my 500 point list:

Wolf Lord + 3 Wolf guard terminators + 8 Grey hunters = 12 models.

I had to do last minute greenstuff work on some of the models because I had done weapon swaps when the new Wolf sprues came out and the joint was bit rough on some of them. Now all of the figs are ready for paint. Most of them have base colours done anyway. About two weeks left for the deadline, but with just 12 models it shouldn't be too hard.

I hope I can take first pics by the weekend.

I will also start working on my part of the campaign map tiles.
