You know I always loved the army, and the new stuff you've done since DP closed is just...amazing.

My only quibble is that I never got to play against it

Thanks for the kind words.

I've been tinkering more with the flamer conversions, bringing three of them to the point where they're nearly ready, I think.

First, I worked on the one who needed an arm:

Swathed in coiling tendrils of Tzeentchian flame, he's "grown" a new one:

and

The other "eyeballs-in-the-hands" guy:

I want the poses to suggest a state of (un)holy ecstasy; hence the arms thrown way back:

While a few IG bitz hopefully convey something of the inscrutable daemonic chemistry/alchemy at work:

Flamer no. 1, with the big eyeball for a head, gets his own treatment, starting with:

Then more work on his head:

Hopefully implying something suitably gothic, with some Guard tech wired in:

Things are still rough. I need to clean these guys up a bit. And then I'll greenstuff in some more flowing robes on the bottom, so that they appear to be floating off the ground (reminding opponents that flamers are jump troops).

But they're getting there:

Thanks for looking.

I'd say the large cable on Oculus Prime works really well. It gives a great optic nerve visual, and it mates the two flavors of your army perfectly. Kudos!

I dunno the eyeball head guy looks like he has tenticle hair, but all in all it looks good. Yes remember those things are "its". Not quite a fn of the eyeball hands though but Tzeench works in really freaky ways.

I tried being normal but it's boring so now I'm back to being insane

*vomits* (Thats a compliment)
SoulGrinder 2 is possilby the most disturbing warhammer/40k model i've seen, and i love the concept of fmalers and flaggies. Once i've finnished my current project (a gaming table) i'll take a look at doing somthing inspired byt his thread. It's brilliant.

Would it be possible to ask you to do a tutorial for your sick-nasty-twisted daemon flesh?
With the amount you do, im sure it seems second nature to you, but the rest of us are sitting at our computers in awe.

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?

"Oculus Prime"? Teek, that's so cool.

Unfortunately, a Warseer poster dubbed him "Eyeball Bob," and I can't get that name out of my head! :p

Whatever we call him, I've put a few finishing touches on the first Flamer Specifically, I grafted on a severed head/fetish/talisman/daemonic power source:

The inspiration here was Forgeworld's Renegade Psyker:

Of course, my take on the idea is much cruder:

Frankly, I don't have the craft or the skill to pull it off Forgeworld style. Let's be charitable, though, and describe my version as seething with Tzeentchian energy:

After all, as far as the Harrowed are concerned possession is not clean or elegant. It's a spasm of violence and violation, wrenching apart reality itself:

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Every time I work on these kinds of projects, I end up with leftover greenstuff. Rather than let that go to waste, I've started a side project: urban terrain modeled to evoke an Imperial City possessed, tainted, by the Ruinous Powers.

I'm starting with (what else?) an imperial shrine:

And taken it (in various sessions) to this:

and then this:

This latter project, the Possessed City, will proceed painfully slowly (even by the standards of this plog!), but I'll keep you all posted.

That's very flattering. I'm not sure I have much helpful knowledge to share here. My style is very much hit or miss, scrape away, and try hitting again. Let me pull some thoughts together and see what I can come up with.

Fantastic, keep up the good work.

Out of interest, where do you get that coiled wire from you have coming out the back of eyeball man's back? I don't mean the plastic bit, but the actual metal wire. Is it guitar strings?

VERY NICE

Just an idea:
with you second Soul Grinder, and I suppose the Tzeentch DP too, is to paint the 'chaosy-trails' around the souls in a more mysterical colour, like green or purple?

Because then the soul trails would look more like wisps and spirits, and less like solid tentacles or such which you could actually touch (though you'd be crazy to try on a battlefield haha).

IMO if you look at the soul grinder atm, the soul trails on top look more like limbs, that it's gonna bash someone with rather than spooky ghosts of tormented spirits.

Just my opinion

Well, it's going to take a looonnnggg time.
But yeah, I'll start it, at least, and plink away bit by bit. I figure as I finish individual building pieces I can always work them into city ruins terrain my club has already built.

Oh, and adielubbe, thanks for the palette suggestion. I've been contemplating trying some new color combinations out. Not sure exactly what I'll try. But I agree, certain elements seem to need a bit more definition (if that's the word) than the current scheme allows.

Thanks for the input, folks.

Sorry, I should've answered earlier. I usually use guitar strings, but in this case, the wire comes from ... I can't remember the name of the product or company. Sorry! But the metal is softer -- maybe lead or pewter? In any case, they bend much more easily and naturally, in rounded shapes, unlike guitar strings. And some modeling/miniatures company sells them in packets containing different sizes, in lengths of 6" or so. A friend gave me a bunch. Dang, can't remember the supplier. Anybody know?

Finished up the Flamers, more or less. First I based them floating just above the ground:

Then I sculpted in some extra, ragged flowing robes to finish things off:

And they're ready for painting (or will be, as soon as I finish off the bases).

I never realized how closely they'd end up resembling those WHFB Vampire Counts units (the wailing spirits, can't remember the name). Regardless, I do like the way they evoke their former identities as Imperial soldiers, but also look thoroughly possessed.

Thanks for looking.

Damn, we gotta get a game in someday.
It would be an honor to die to this army!

-Sanct.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Whoops, it's been awhile since I've posted.

I've been picking at way at painting the Soul Grinder, and she's getting pretty close.

and (different angle)

and from the back:

and from the side:

and a closer look at the Eye:

And then at the Maw:

The color's washed out a bit in these pictures: in real life it looks a bit bluer and more vivid.

I spent most of today working on the Flamers. The painting on these is still rough, but the look is starting to come into focus:

I'll make a few changes. (Those loincloths, for example, need to be a different color.) But the overall scheme I like.

Thanks for looking.
