Hi guys, I've been working my way through my bitz box and found parts that inspired me to create adiorama, right now I'm not sure how its going to pan out. I know I'm going to use SM scouts from the landspeeder storm, which is an awesome kit and a bit of a cadian/marauder kitbash for some cultist elites. I'm going to mount the entire thing on 2 13x31 pieces of wood and join them up by some ingenious system which allows it to be broken down for transport, hints? I'm going to be using various COD sprues to build a listening post/shrine/water pump in a state of disrepair with a slot in the boards to allow it to fix in. All models wil be mounted and based speratley slotting inot their positions on the diorama. So any tips or hintd, specifically to allow the buildings to be broken down for ease of storage and transport. Also on the colours I shoyld use, so far I can imagine a bleak grey world, but would like your opinions, thanks

Hey guys, nothing much just a couple of pics to better show the direction i am trying to go with this project. The first two are large flying bases, which will be magnetised to 'stick' to the board, with the base on the board interlinking with them. Both of these will end up with rogue guard on them. The 3rd shows the boards I will be using, just to get a scale. Another thing I'm going to bear in mind that I definitely want this to have a 3rd dimension by including 1 or maybe two buildings, depends on what i scrounge.

Hey guys, managed to have a greenstuff today, Have extremely little experience in this department so was quite pleased with the results. My aim here was to beef him up. Filing in the gaps on the upper flak armour, to create a carapace. Working on an mouth grill peice, which I'm reasonaly pleased with, and the knee and thigh pads, the less said the better. But we learn from our mistakes, the plan is he will sit on the barrel base blasting at a sm scout on an upper floor. Thoughts?

EDIT: my spelling is rubbish tonight and forgot to say he's a wip, some work needed on the bare arm at the join.

I'm liking the use of the Marauder head, looks really cool.

Bases look good as well... putting me to shame!

Right sorry no update today, real life rears its ugly head far too often, but I really want to know what people think would be the beat kind of colouring for the slate and board.
Washed out grey Necropolis or sand ridden monument, thoughts?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hah! Not an update as such, but a brilliant idea to join the boards. Now at first my initial idea was magnets, but the deoth of the boards (3.mil0 would make it a fiddly job. So instead I'm going to use a pair of tiny hinges on the top of the board, each will be disguised by terrain or a building, allowing the diorama to literally fold up. Might do a tutorial depending on the sucsess of it. Anybody done this before?

Scar, I have got the kit but haven't used any of the components for this project, just some small scale hobby rocks, (name on the box), it does look very similar to the GW kit though.

Hey man, excellent work.

Someone said it up above but the chaos marauder head looks awesome on the Cadian Body. Equipped with that feral looking axe and a bolt pistol, you've really captured that renegade look.

Great Job, I'm definitely interested here.

have you thought about tounge and groove or are you thinking about something a bit sleeker like a hinge that extends open or something?

Yep, I second everything good that has been said so far...

Your warrior looks definitely renegade, the pose is cool, and I like when guys have something to cover their mouth (rebreather, Mk.8 armour, a plain scarf), so that's a win for me!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments, nice to see your response.
@mullet-steve Ihave vey little knowledge about hinges, the suggestion came from a family member who has no interest in miniatures. Sounds like you have a better knowledge than me. Up until now I was just going to use two minaturised versions of a regular indoor hinge, but now I'm going to look into other possibilities, Thanks.

Also I'm now working on the second regenade, who will have an autocannon mounted on a COD wall, Just looking for any ideas to differentiate him from the other regenade without ruining the look of a coherent force, ideas?

Well, if he's a HW chap, maybe some kind of large, mutated strongman with tattered uniform remnants hanging off him. In an Incredible Hulk sort of way. Oh! and give him a reeeeally ugly face.

@P4NC4K3 good idea, time to dig out the marauder sprues again.
Trying to move forward but i'm still waiting on hinges, looking for ones with the right depth and height. If anyone spots any good ones, contact me!

Hi guys,
did some work this morning on a regenade chaos autocannon operator, bit of a steep learning curve. I've tried to add the ripped shirt effect to the right arm and hair, please criticise my skills! Only way I'll learn. The only problem I can really see is over the day the model has 'slouched forward', I'll have to correct it, thoughts?

Hope you can see the ripped shirt on that one.

The slouch is quiite visible here, looks a bit worse in real life though.

Shows a few mold lines and flash for me too clean up.

Birdseye shows size

Thanks for lookin.

Sorry had few tech issues.

Looks pretty good. I'd say, drill some bullet hole sin the wall and knock those rocks back to the ground, first thing... but that's just me.

As for the slouch, is it that his head is too forward or that he's leaning into the gun too much?

I like where this is going.

Up North

The 'slouch' the models weight has moved forwards, leaving the feet in the same position and altering the gun arm. So leaning into the gun too much.

Can you snap off the gun arm without damaging it too much? That's where I would start, then just reposition him on the base.

OOAR!! You could greenstuff a padded gunstock for him to be leaning into, thus explaining the lean. maybe *shrugs*

I'm still excited to see the big picture here.

Hmm, that is an idea, hat off to you The Good Green, Gunstock! You've set the wheels a'churnin!

Well, I'm in the process of markin out the boards to show, where everything is goin to be placed, at the mo I have 3 SM scouts on my hobby desk in rough poses, that I need to consider. I know how two of them will interact with the cultists, but not the final one. And still waiting for hinges, never realised the variation in hinge type!!

Right, not an update of such but an idea, I managed to get hold of some hinges today and have been mocking up the board. However I think I've decided to take it in a slightly different direction. Not to give too much away, but the original concept was a pop-up diorama. Diorama-to tell a story. Bit cryptic, I'll be interested to see if anybody gets it.
(It helps to remember its based around hinges and opening!)

But where will the levers go? This is sounding more and more exciting. Are the figures going to be catapulted off the board... as they die?!? Awesome...

The Good Green, not quite, the hint was with the story, but adept to say the board has been given a '3rd'dimension, when shut. Withouth giving too much away, there will now be '3' sections, arranged in a row. Allowing the whole thing to fold into a 'box' like shape, however the outside is going to be decorated to represent something. Guesses?

But, the added time constraint of cutting a new board out and procuring another set of hinges may put me back a while, I will stay working on the model aspect however. Thanks for looking

Ahh, P4NC4K3 you do have a point, but this in fact is quite a simple idea, it depends on how much I 'jazz' it up, how far I am willing to go to decorate the outside of the 'box'. As I've been doing the mathematics and everything should work fine! I hope.
