Well, I just took on another commission from a local (my FLGS shop owner, actually!) for a regular Squiggoth and a Gargantuan Squiggoth! I will be painting the Squiggoth as a large representative of the Bad Moonz Clan, while the larger one (reserved for another blog of its own) will be Evil Suns.

So, what I have right now is the model unprimed, unassembled (see pictures). I will be sure to do pictures of each step as best as I can. I will try to update as often as possible when I get work done on it! Tomorrow, I should have time between painting other commissions to get this thing assembled and maybe even primed, should the weather hold out.

Got it assembled. Going to prime it up tomorrow and post some shots Saturday. Had to greenstuff in a gap in one leg joint and put in some chains on the armor, where the resin ones were not present.

So, I had to add some jewelery chain, since there was none connecting the armored top to the hanging plates. No biggie, easy to do. Big gap had to be filled between the body and I think it was the front left leg. Again, nothing too hard. Going to paint up the howdah and ladder first, then the main body. Going to be Bad Moonz! Can't wait. Also, I am going to try out a multi-layered masking method for the hell of it. First layer, metal, then mask areas. Then, another layer of brownish, masking over the previous areas, but in a smaller area. Then, I will paint it up and rub off the masking. Should look neato!

Given that you're smack dab in high temp and humidity land, how/where are you priming?

I spray outside and prompting bring it inside. I also wait for days when it isn't too awful outside. No troubles on the priming front.

However, today was my first setback. Tried my liquid masking to no avail. The product I have just isn't meant for this, but is instead for use with paper-products, etc. I will post some shots of the nearly (or by then, totally) finished Howdah, soon.

Thanks. I have a LONG way to go. Still, I am having fun with it. I always did like the larger models, especially Forge World stuff.

Some more work-in-progress shots of it. Going to magnetize the Howdah (last minute request) and finish off the face, then I should be done.

The commission is just for the Squiggoth, sadly. I suppose the owner will get around to painting his own guns, as I know for a fact he has them.

Those shots don't seem to be too terribly good, probably due to my awful lightning set-up currently. I will try to get some shots with better lighting and more angles soon.

Love the yellow. You did the Bad Moons scheme proud.

One thing I don't care for much is the skin color. Don't get me wrong. You excecuted it well. It's just not as dark as I I think it should be. I hope you do the Gargantuan Squiggoth darker.

With Orks, the more powerful they are, the darker. It's why Grots are tryically a light green, doen to a dark green for Warbosses. I'd imagins Squiggoths would be QUITE dark.

Regardless, though, I like it. I look forward to the next one.
Same thread, or a new one?

Sadly, I can't do much about what color is requested. In fact, the Gargantuan one will be more of a Gretchin Green base, meaning a lighter, but more subdued color for the skin.

I may well just keep it to this thread, so as to make it easier to find.

Great stuff here! How did you do the weathered effect on the armor?

It is a lot of washes, layers, and haphazard application of boltgun metal for scratches, etc.

Do you put the boltgun metal on after?

I do a base coat of it on a majority of the metal parts, then add the yellow, then I do the scratches. Lets me be more reactive to what I want to paint as colored armor or not.

You could punch the requestor in the throat.
No?
Okay. I'm just saying... : )

Seriously, though... You've got a point. If it's what was specifically requested, then there you go. Any chance he'll come to his senses before you start painting the G.Squiggoth? : )

That's why I asked. I wanted to know if I needed to subscribe to a different thread. : )

Yea, that whole punching thing may not work, seeing as how it is the FLGS shop owner and I like having a place to game. That coupled with the fact he would promptly knife me, for sure, seems a deterrent.

Anyhow, I will be starting the biggun' soon. Need to round out 30 Blood Angel Assault Marines first.

Been this long since updates?! Whew, time flies.

Right now, I am in the process of adding rockets to the howdah of the Gargantuan Squiggoth and linking them with pipes and tubes to an engine in the back of said Howdah. This being an Evil Suns Squiggoth, it is only natural that they would want it to go fasta'.

This was per request of the owner, so do it I shall. Not too heavily modified, but just enough to make it different. I will post pictures of it pre-primer so you guys can see the mods. Expect it in a few days.
