How could i make this miniature look better?

I don't think it looks bad. I think you have the right idea with your highlights, but need more gradation between your clolors. Perhaps one or two in between colors between the dark blue up to your lights, working to blend a bit. It's not to hard after a bit of practice.

For your metal, I think playing with washes may work well. Perhaps on the brass looking stuff?

Yeah I'd echo that advice, it looks like you've used Ice Blue for the highlights, just add a couple of drops to some Ultramarine to make a mid-tone. You might also want to do the same on the red cape and loin cloth by doing a further highlight of Blood Red/Blazing Orange, just to pick out the 'highest' parts.

The only other thing would be something on the base, even if it's just some gravel followed by a neutral colour on the base edge (amazing what a difference the last bit makes, especially if you carry it through a whole army).

Then it's possible to do the same by gradually adding small amounts of White to your Colour Mix.

Lol, you don't need all of them. It just transitions better if you do. Maybe try with the ones you do have.

Not too much, but the highlight will look smoother with another shade in between.

Use gryphonne sepia wash on all the metal areas. It'll look much better

You have done the shading on the red cloth pretty well and the only thing I see should be thinner and smoother is the lightning on the power sword (oh and BTW is power swod written like that or is it powersword? (im finnish how the Gak should I know? ))

I should have mentioned that's really very good for someone new to painting; nice and neat and you've already got some more advanced techniques on the go.

Try using a Badab Black wash on your silver parts and a Gryphonne Sepia or Devlan Mud wash on your golds. For a self-confessed "n00b" you've got a damn good start here.

That is true, and I respect that. But I treat Warhammer 40k as a great hobby, not as a way of life/job.

About the washes i only own badab. would it also work with ultra thin snakebite leather or bleached bone?

With the creases (cant spell) on the back on the cape, highlight them blood red (bright red) and than lightly drybrush it with blazing orange and than extremly highlight it with a yellow.

The miniature is neat, as I've said, but if you're looking for Crits and Suggestions, then here are some.

- Try, as has been said, using a slightly darker Highlighting Shade. This will reduce the sharpness of the highlight, and make mistakes or blemishes less obvious, as the Highlight Shade is closer to that of the Basecoat Shade.

- The Metal Areas, particularly the Boltgun, are crying out for some washes. Gryphonne Sepia, or Badab Black, or both. Whatever you fancy, whatever you have.

- Go a little slower, and focus on steadying your hand. There are Spots on the Model which look dirty, and blemished, because your hand has slipped, and Paint has gone where it shouldn't have. Some Areas also look a little thick, and this might be due to touch-ups? Either way, I know it's hard, but a steady hand goes a long way in Painting!

Did you base in Black or White?

- If you Primed the Model in Black, then try White instead. It will brighten up your colours a little for you, almost eliminating the need for that sharp Highlight - as I addressed in the first Point - and it will be easier to see where Paint has, and hasn't, gone. This might solve your Layering Spots and Blemishes as well, to some extent.

No it would not. Washes are not just thin paint. I'm no expert, but as I understand it, the paint particles are smaller and there are certain mediums in the mix that ensure an even layer. In addition, and here I am certain, water tends to form droplets. It wants to be thicker in the "middle" and thinner near the "edges". This means that thinned out paint cannot do the job of a wash because it does't spread in the same way. (You can make some pretty cool mottled effects with extremely thin paint, and most people thin their paints just a little, so water isn't all bad, just won't do what washes do.) ^^

As per the model itself, it's very good looking, espescially if you're new to the hobby. As people have mentioned before, basing the model makes a huge difference. In the beginning, I didn't think much about the base at all, but as I began uploading images I came to realize how much the black base retracts from the look of a model.

Very nice. If I may, I suggest Bleached bone for the skull insignia on the leg, rather than plain white.

Of course you may suggest. The problem is, as I have mensioned before, I own very few colors, and bleached bone isn't one of them. How about bronzed flesh?
