Am I the only one that thinks that all the little lasgun emplacements that stick out of the rear of a chimera look ridiculous? I really don't like the look of them and am thinking about taking them off and putting some cardboard over the inside to hide the gaping holes leftover. Anyone feel like jumping on the bandwagon or giving me some advice on what else I could to to hide that part of the chimera?

I say leave the holes. The Guardsmen need something to shoot out of. Like a window, or a archers hole in the case of the side holes.

Yeah, see that was my thinking too, it just looks a little bit dodgy, so I'm putting something behind the holes so that it looks like there is a shutter there.

What really confused me is that it says that there is space for five men to shoot from the top hatch to represent shooting those lasers, except there are six lasers, not five!

I thought that was fethed too. But it would look even weirder with just 5 guns poking out.

Are you any good with plasticard?

Erm, not really, but I am open to suggestions, I've got at least five more Chimera's to work on in the future, so if you've got any ideas let me know!

Well what I was going to say. Was make something like the rhino windows folded up, so the hole's aren't SO obvious. And it looks like there is a little place for the guardsmen to fire out of.

Once upon a time, the rules reflected this by saying that half the unit (max capacity 12) could shoot out but only with lasguns.

I u!sed the balls the lasguns are attached to to fill the holes; simple stick them in from the inside with the ball bit poking out. Instant viewports!

That's not bad either! Cheers mate, that makes just as much sense, but also accomodates my laziness!

I've also seen the balls been installed, but trimmed to create a flat viewport, rather than a rounded one. Search fro a bit in the Gallery and I'm sure you'll get more inspiration.

To represent five firepoints, leave four on each side and have a pintle-mounted lasgun on top of the passenger compartment, perhaps?

I have only the rear two sets of lasguns in place. The front 2 broke off(luckily the 2 that broke were symmetrical) so I filed the jagged edges down, rolled the ball so just it showed and viola: 4 Lasgun Fire points, and the Main hatch for the Heavy(although it is usually a command squad inside firing flamers).

As was said earlier(although slightly inaccurately) The old Chimera rules had the lasguns fire-able by passengers and 1 other trooper(generally heavy or special weapon, but could be a lasgun) could fire out of the top hatch(which then made the vehicle count as open topped)

A nice alternative also Ive seen is making the chimera have no roof and model it so the lasgun ports are mounted at the sides above the tracks to look like firing slits for the passengers. Put down some fine mesh and seating and it looks like a cross between the chimera and a world war 2 landing craft. Look up accolades genswick rifles blog on here for what I mean.

You could cut the clear plastic from a blister pack and stick it to the inside over the hatch, making a simple but effective window.

What about a little p-card fu to make them look a bit like ship portholes?, you know, ring around the outside with rivets, block it up with scrap p-card on the inside.

+1. This is what I do. Got the idea from making a PBS chimera. Little glass view ports to shoot PBS stuff out of.

SM shoulder pads do a good job covering the holes. They end up looking like vents.

I left them off mine:

Makes the vehicle look sleeker and more combat-ready. I left them there since men would be shooting out of them. I also closed off the holes themselves by gluing some plasticard under the holes.
