Subject: Drop Pod, A space marine story by yours truly.

Alright, here's something I whipped up a while ago. Not sure exactly how drop-pods work in theory, so I filled in the gaps myself. It's unfinished, by the way. Here goes: The air crackled with static as the pod ripped through the smoke-strangled air, leaving a retina-burning column of light shining through in its wake. From the inside, there was a sound like steel being shredded with the teeth of a chain-blade as vital systems ignited and sent shrapnel spraying through the pressurised interior. The screams of armoured soldiers were lost in the howling of the wind, the dying wails of hardened warriors cut short by the sound of tearing flesh and ricocheting shards of metal. Blood covered the floor and walls, and bodies slumped limply in their seats. Lucio watched one of his marines as they were shot through the throat by a large sliver of steel and doubled over on the white-hot reinforced metal floor, vomiting blood. There was a sound like the universe exploding, and then, for a split second, no sound at all. It was as if the pod had been swallowed by some great, silent beast. And then they hit the ground. The impact broke bones and sent chunks of earth flying into the air, creating massive cracks and craters and flattening everything within a one kilometre radius. Time passed and the dust settled. There were groans from the mangled, half buried drop pod. Screams sputtered into coughs and faded into whimpers as smoke billowed out from behind the doors of the pod. Blood trickled from the pod roof as Lucio suffocated on the noxious black smoke filling the twisted metal cell. He writhed on the floor, choking, and banged against the hatches with his fists. The pod was wedged almost vertically in the ground, covered with layer upon layer of dirt and sand. There was a strangulated hiss of hydraulics every few seconds as the hatches tried to open themselves under the immense pressure. Lucio managed to stand and stumbled over to the closest hatch. He hit it and shook at it, but it wouldn’t budge. There was only one other way to open the doors. Several charges were installed around each door and he scrambled through the smoke for the ignition switch in the centre of the pod. His left arm had been stripped of armour in the impact and he sliced his palm open on a large piece of blast-proof glass as he smacked the muffled-green pulsating switch. Several explosions flashed through the smog as the door gave way and erupted outwards. It dug a shallow trench and embedded itself upright in the ground sixty metres away. Lucio lurched towards the open door as the pod rocked. The sunlight pierced his eyes and he tripped, blinded, through the large opening. He landed on his back in what felt like sand, and gulped down fresh air. He spat black liquid from deep in his lungs. Blood caked his grey armour, dried from the heat of impact and the sizzling sunlight. His eyes had not yet adjusted from the expansive, all-consuming black of deep space. He spat thick, black phlegm as he fumbled to un-hook his helmet and slam it on, the light filters and respirators working immediately to clarify his vision and clean out his lungs. The light darkened and he lolled his head to his left as he started to make out shapes in the distance. The world suddenly became crisp and clear. Sand stretched for as far as he could see, with nothing to mark the horizon but distant sand dunes. There was a remote rumbling noise, like the sound of an approaching vehicle. Lucio rolled sideways into the trench dug by the flying hatch. His bolt-gun had been left racked above his seat, and the vehicle was approaching too fast to retrieve it. That's all I have so far, thanks for reading. Cheers, HadoukenAvenger.

I love the beginning (Mostly because drop pods are so ridiculous and odd in the first place), but I must ask: Will we find out what happened to this one? Drop pods typically don't kill the marines inside (If they did, they'd be a bit impractical), so something must have happened for *Insert reason*.
Description is good, but I think it wouldn't hurt to add another marine name or two. It feels as if Lucio is the only guy left, despite the fact that some are still alive.
Overall, you did a good job with the short amount of space you had. I look forward to see you continuing.

Thank you!
Alright:
Yes, something went terribly wrong with this pod and yes, you will find out what that was. I wanted to focus solely on Lucio in that segment of the story, but I'll work in some other survivors when I write the next part. I'm still tossing up between the vehicle being a chaos-tainted 'tauros venator' or a trakk-based ork vehicle. Maybe even a bike of some descript.
Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated.
PS: All story segments will now be in bold, and if I ever finish it completely, I'll put the whole thing in one post
